The development of electronic devices that possess the functionality of biological synapses is a crucial step towards neuromorphic *** this work,we present a WOx-based memristive device that can emulate voltage-dependent synaptic *** adjusting the amplitude of the applied voltage,we were able to reproduce short-term plasticity(STP)and the transition from STP to long-term *** stimulation with high intensity induced long-term enhancement of conductance without any decay process,thus representing a permanent memory ***,the image Boolean operations(including intersection,subtraction,and union)were also demonstrated in the memristive synapse array based on the above voltage-dependent *** experimental achievements of this study provide a new insight into the successful mimicry of essential characteristics of synaptic behaviors.

Ag/Ta_(2)O_(5)/CuO/Pt memristive devices with Ag point contacts at the interface exhibit forming-free and partial volatile analog resistive switching *** synaptic functions,like the short-term plasticity,the long-term potentiation and the paired-pulse facilitation,are emulated with these *** Ag point contacts in the Ta_(2)O_(5)layer are verified through transmission electron microscope(TEM)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscope(XPS).The Ag point contacts at the interface endow the device the transition from the electrochemical metallization mode to the valence change mode,and the analog resistive switching behavior and neuromorphic *** interface engineering of introducing point contacts at the interface provides a way for the development of neuromorphic devices with low power consumption.

short-term plasticity in synaptic transmission is believed to control the efficiency of signal communication among the neurons,one of key processes in neural *** better understand the mechanisms underlying synaptic transmission,we conduct paired-recordings between neocortical regular-spiking pyramidal neurons(RS) and a specific subtype of inhibitory interneuron("GIN cells":low threshold-spiking,somatostatin-expressing,EGFP-labeled interneurons in the GIN line of transgenic mice) in brain *** from glutamatergic unitary synapses on pyramidal neurons and GABAergic interneurons are mainly *** both the net amplitude of synchronous release and the amplitude of asynchronous release of each EPSC are *** suggests the quantum size underlying short-term facilitation is not *** contrast,the probabilities of synchronous and asynchronous release of each EPSC are both increased ***,the release probabilities are relative increased when we augment the facilitation by changing the firing frequency of presynaptic *** results indicate the short-term facilitation can be explained by the increasing of release *** examine the role of presynaptic Cal in synaptic release probability and facilitation, we reduced Ca levels by infusing BAPTA(a Ca chelator) into presynaptic *** reduction of presynaptic Ca level significantly blocks synaptic vesicle release,and makes synaptic facilitation *** elevation of presynaptic Ca by adenophostin increases synaptic release probability,but attenuates synaptic *** integrated current pulses mathematically based on different release probability and found that high probability can improve both spike capacity and timing *** conclusion,the elevation of release probability is the main mechanism of short-term facilitation,and it can improve the spike programming.

Critical period is a well-defined early developmental time window in which the brain is extremely sensitive to experience *** studies suggest that maturation of cortical GABAergic inhibition mediated by parvalbumin(PV)-cells is necessary for opening the critical ***,it remains elusive what detailed developmental changes in this particular inhibitory PV-cell circuit endorse its key regulation on the occurrence of the critical period of visual *** the present study,by performing dual whole-cell recordings of cortical neurons in acute brain slices,we systematically investigated the functional maturation of the cortical PV-cell synaptic circuits in layer 4,the main thalamorecipient lamina,of mouse visual cortex aged from eye opening(14) to critical-period onset(20).Our results showed a dramatic reduction in the short-term depression(STD) of PC to PV synapses along with unchanged synaptic strength during P14-20,but little change in the STD of reciprocal PV to PC synapses and a two-fold increase in its transmission *** contrast,the recurrent excitatory synapse between PCs in layer 4decreased its strength by 50%with little change in its ***,there was no developmental change in the strength and STD at the GABAergic and electrical connections between the PV cells,or the STD of thalamocortical synapses onto both layer 4 PCs and PV-cells during the same *** experiments with mice dark reared from birth indicated that these above differential synaptic changes in layer 4 recurrent circuits could be blocked by the deprivation of early visual *** together,the differential modifications of synaptic function in the cortical PV-cell circuit and recurrent excitatory network by experience lead to a preferential promotion of the intra-cortical inhibition over the excitation in developing visual cortex at the time of critical period onset,which endorsing the role of cortical PV-cell circuit in regulating the criti

＜正＞Objective Processing of temporal information is fundamental for many brain functions,such as sensory perception,motor behavior and *** neuronal activities after periodic conditioning stimuli（CS） were observed in various brain regions,and are believed to contribute to the recollection of the time interval within a short period after episodic ***,the neuronal and circuitry mechanisms in generating such post-CS rhythmic activities are much less *** we show that the short-term plasticity of after-hyperpolarization potentials （AHPs） induced by the repetitive visual or extracellular electric stimuli may directly mediate the post-CS rhythmic activities in rat visual *** Postsynaptic membrane potentials of visual cortical neurons were measured by in vivo whole-cell recording in anaesthetized *** Both the light stimulation and intra-cortical electrical stimulation were efficient to entrain post-CS rhythmic activities,if they were presented periodically at the frequency ranging 3-10 *** post-CS activities could last up to～10 cycles depending on the CS number *** whole-recording data reveal that the curve of AHP activation was gradually aligned during CS induction,with the similarity of curve shape between different neurons being *** blocking of Ih channel by 2mM Cs+ included in the recording pipette significantly abolished the alignment of AHP curve,but didn’t change the post-CS ***,extracellular application of ZD 7288 totally blocked both the alignment of AHP curve and the post-CS rhythmic *** short-term plasticity of Ih channel activation after periodic conditioning stimuli results in the alignment of AHP curve in the neuronal ensembles of visual cortex,and thus leads to the post-CS rhythmic activities which may directly contribute to the visual perception of the time interval of past episode.

Relay neurons in the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus（d LGN） receive excitatory inputs form retinal ganglion cells via retinogeniculate synapses, which display strong short-term depression of AMPA receptors（AMPARs） mediated current. However, the underlying mechanism is still not clear. Here we identified CKAMP44 as a crucial AMPARs auxiliary protein in the dorsal lateral geniculate synapse, in which they promote AMPARs surface expression. Moreover, CKAMP44 helps to maintain shortterm plasticity of retinogeniculate synapses by slowing AMPARs recovery from desensitization. In addition, deletion of CKAMP44 increases the firing probability of relay neurons under high frequency stimulation on optic tract. Finally, in vivo unit recording in the d LGN showed that ON and OFF response of d LGN neurons were stronger in CKAMP44 knockout mice, demonstrating the importance of CKAMP44 modulated synaptic short-term depression for visual input integration.
