Influence of the roughness and shape of quartz particles on their flotation kinetics

Surface roughness and shape play an important role on the behavior of particles in various processes such as flotation. In this re- search, the influence of different grinding methods on the surface roughness and shape characteristics of quartz particles as well as the effect of these parameters on the flotation of the particles was investigated. The surface roughness of the particles was determined by measuring their specific surface area via the gas adsorption method. The shape characteristics of the particles were measured and calculated by images obtained by scanning electron microscopy via an image analysis system. The flotation kinetics was determined using a laboratory flotation cell. The results showed that the particles of rod mill products have higher roughness and elongation ratio and lower roundness than the parti- cles of ball mill products. The flotation kinetics constant of the particles increased with their surface roughness increasing. Particles with higher elongation and lower roundness indicated higher floatability. In addition, the influence of the surface roughness on the flotation kinet- ics was greater than that of shape parameters.

The aim of this paper is to propose a fast meshless numerical scheme for the simulation of non-linear Schrodinger *** the proposed scheme,the implicit-Euler scheme is used for the temporal discretization and the localized method of approximate particular solution(LMAPS)is utilized for the spatial *** multiple-scale technique is introduced to obtain the shape parameters of the multiquadric radial basis function for 2D problems and the Gaussian radial basis function for 3D *** numerical examples are carried out to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed *** with well-known techniques,numerical results illustrate that the proposed scheme is of merits being easy-to-program,high accuracy,and rapid convergence even for long-term *** results also indicate that the proposed scheme has great potential in large scale problems and real-world applications.

In this paper, we propose a three point approximating subdivision scheme, with three shape parameters, that unifies three different existing three point approximating schemes. Some sufficient conditions for subdivision curve C0 to C3 continuity and convergence of the scheme for generating tensor product surfaces for certain ranges of parameters by using Laurent polynomial method are discussed. The systems of curve and surface design based on our scheme have been developed successfully in garment CAD especially for clothes modelling.

The impact of reservoirs on downstream river channel change has been a scientific issue in fluvial geomorphology during the last few decades. However, it is still a difficult issue as to how to express quantitatively the channel adjustment in the Inner Mongolian reach of the Yellow River induced by the joint operation of upstream reservoirs. Based on the shape parameters of channel cross-sections at four gauging stations in this river reach over a flooding season in two periods, 1978–1982 and 2008–2012, the present work investigated the channel changes in terms of shape parameter change rate under the same controlling water level in each flooding season at the channel cross-sections. Results showed that most of the change rates of the parameters evidently increased over a flooding season in both periods. However, the change rate of each parameter at the cross-sections decreased evidently in the latter period, compared with the former period. At the same time, the distribution pattern of the change rate of the shape parameters along the cross-sections thus changed from a convex curve in the former period to an S-shaped curve in the latter period. The obvious decrease of the change rates is related to the joint operation of the Liujiaxia and Longyangxia reservoirs. The reservoirs stored a large volume of water and decreased the peak discharge and maximum velocity in the flooding season; as a result, the erosion ability of the flood decreased accordingly. With the joint operation of the large reservoirs, the Inner Mongolian channel shrunk markedly. Therefore, the channel will present the possibility of an extreme flood in the future. Consequently, it is reasonable to adjust the function of the reservoirs in future. The total water and sediment discharges and the peak discharge in flooding seasons should be effectively controlled. Continuous shrinkage of the channel can thus be avoided and it can be ready for a potential extreme flood.
