Effect of Active Dried Yeast on Intestine Development,Intestinal Flora and serum cholesterol Mass Concentration of Quails

[ Objective] The experiments aimed to investigate the effect of dietary active dried yeast on intestine development, intestinal flora and serum cholesterol mass concentration of quails. [ Method] One-day-old 180 quails were randomly divided into 4 groups, 3 repetitions, each with 15 quails. Control group was fed with basic dietary, while experimental groups were added with 0.6, 1,2 g/kg active dried yeast respectively in basic dietary, [ Result] Addition of active dried yeast had little effect on quails＇ intestine development（ P 〉0.05）. With the increasing adding amount active dried yeast, the number of colibacillus decreased significantly （P 〈0.05） while lactobacillus content increasing sharply （P 〈 0.05）. Dietary with 1 and 2 g/kg active dried yeast can significantly decrease the mass concentration of cholesterol in serum （ P 〈 0.05）. [ Conclusion ] Adding active dried yeast in feed can decrease the number of colibacillus while increasing lactobacillus content in intestinal tract of quails, also can low serum cholesterol mass concentration.

Effect of Pine Needle on Immunity and serum cholesterol of Chickens

The research aimed to study the effects of pine needle on immunity and serum cholesterol of chickens. Totally 240 healthy Roman cocks （one day old） were randomly divided into four groups, three replicates each group and 20 chickens per replicate. The chickens in contrel group were fed with basal diet and nor- real drinking water; the chickens in groups I and II were fed with the basal diet added with 0.5 and 1.0 g/ehieken pine needle powder, respectively; the chickens in group HI were fed with pine needle decoction at the dose of 0.5 g/chicken. The pre-trial lasted 4 d, and the former trial lasted 70 d. The results showed that the percentages of CD3＋ CD4 ＋ T lymphocytes in groups I, II and III were higher than that in control group at the 15th day after the first immunization, but the percenta- ges in groups 1 and II were lower than that in control group at the 30th , 45th and 60th days, and the percentage in group III was lower than that in control group at the 45th day. The percentages of CD3＋ CD8 ＋ T lymphocytes in groups I, II and III were higher than that in control group at the 15th, 30th and 45th days after the first immunization, but the percentages in groups I and III were lower than that in control group at the 60th day. At the 14th and 21st days after the first immunization, the levels of NDV antibody in groups I and II were lower than that in control group, but the levels at the 28th and 35th days were higher than that in control group. The level of NDV antibody in group III was higher than that in control group at the 14th and 21st days while it was lower at the 7th and 35th days. The levels of serum total cholesterol and trigtyceride in groups I, II and III had lower trend compared with control group, and the levels of serum triglyceride in groups I and II were significantly lower than that in control group and group III （P 〈0.05 ）. Effects of Red Palm Oil on serum Lipids and Plasma Carotenoids Level in Chinese Male Adults

Objective Effects of red palm oil on major plasma carotenoids, tocopherol, retinol and serum lipids were evaluated when used in Chinese diet. Methods Red palm oil group (RPO) composed of 20 male subjects(aged 18-32) and soybean oil group (SBO) composed of 22 male subjects (aged 18-32). Dietary fat provided about 28% of total calories, and the test oil accounted for about 60% of total dietary fat. In the 3 weeks of pretest period, diets were prepared with soybean oil, and then in the next 6 weeks subjects in each group consumed the diet prepared by test oil. Results Plasma α-carotene, β-carotene and lycopene concentration of RPO group significantly increased at the time of interim (21 days) and of the end (42 days) (Pserum concentration of total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, apolipoprotein AI and apolipoprotein B of all subjects showed no significant changes in RPO group during the study. Conclusions The data in our study suggest that red palm oil is a good source of carotenoids and vitamin E when used in Chinese diet preparation, and it can significantly increase plasma concentration of a-carotene, α-carotene, lycopene and β-tocopherol.

Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor and MT1-MMP Involved in Development of Atherosclerosis in Apolipoprotein E-Deficient Mice

Objectives Genetic deficiency of macrophage colony stimulating factor （M-CSF） in atherosclerosis-prone （apoE-/-） mice markedly reduces formation of atheroma. But Little is known about the potential effects of other colony stimulating factors（ CSF）, such as granulocyte CSF（ G-CSF）, on atherosclerosis. This study tested the hypothesis that G-CSF would be involved in development of atherosclerotic plaque. Methods apoE-/- mice fed with a Western-style diet （0. 15% cholesterol） were injected subcutaneously with recombinant human G-CSF（ 10 rag/day） dally for 9 weeks then sacrificed. The matrix metalloproteinase （MMP） 2 and MMP9 in serum of mice were measured by Gelatin Zymography analysis and c-kit and membrane typel-MMP （MT1-MMP） antigens were detected using fluorescence activated cell sorting （FACS）. Meanwhile, complete blood counts （CBC） and serum cholesterol, relative fractions of VLDL, LDL, and HDL were evaluated by spectrophotometric techniques and high performance liquid chromatography （HPLC） respectively. Atherosclerotic Lesions of the aorta were also analyzed by histological methods. Results G-CSF treatment resulted in increased proportions of circulating monocytes （ 6.9 ± 2. 2 % vs. 3.8 ± 0. 3 % ; P 〈 0. 05 ）, and decreased serum levels of total cholesterol（ 1225 ± 594 vs. 1991 ± 1009; P 〈 0. 005 ） compared to control mice. A greater proportion of bone marrow cells from G-CSF treated mice expressed MT1-MMP （ 14. 5 ± 5.5% vs. 6. 2 ± 5.0%, P 〈 0. 05 ） compared to bone marrow cells from vehicle treated mice. G-CSF treatment was also associated with smaller atheromatous plaque, and decreased oil red O staining. Conclusions G-CSF lowers serum cholesterol, increases circulating monocytes, increases bone marrow cell expression of MT1-MMP, inhibits plaque development, and decreases lipid and macrophage infiltration into developing plaque.
