The Mishrif Formation(Cenomanian-E Turonian)is one of the most important geological formations in the Middle East and Iraq because it contains enormous petroleum *** is considered to be the first reservoir in the region,and is still being studied because of its economic *** carbonate of the Mishrif Formation derives from a variety of depositional settings,including mid-ramp,shoal,lagoon,and *** five main microfacies discussed in this paper are wackestone,packstone,grainstone,floatstone,and *** most frequent fossilised components found in the Mishrif Formation are rudists,benthic foraminifera,echinoderms,burrows molluscs,and *** to the microfacies and analysed wireline log data,the sequence stratigraphy of the studied formation is composed of two regression *** parasequences of transgressive-regressive cycles make up the depositional sequence of the Mishrif *** standard depositional environments seem to demonstrate a gradual regression,beginning with a short period of the outer ramp,then a steady period of the mid-ramp,and ending in the intertidal ***,the study recorded two regional maximum flooding surfaces:K-135 and *** former is present in the lowermost part of the formation,while the other lies in the *** study shows a close relationship between facies(environments)and hydrocarbon *** increased accumulation focuses on the lower part of the studied formation,and seems to be lower in the upper part of the formation as a result of changes in the environment of deposition.

A Oilfield is the most representative mid to deep oil field in the Bohai Sea, with the main oil bearing intervals being the upper and middle Shahejie-3 sections of the Paleogene Shahejie Formation. By combining well seismic analysis, the middle section of Shahejie-3 is divided into high-level system tract and forced lake retreat system tract, corresponding to the II oil formation and I oil formation, respectively. Using sequence stratigraphy methods, based on seismic profiles and drilling lithological cycles, the high stand system tract is divided into 5 stages of delta progradation. The first and second stages are high angle S-type progradation with large sedimentary thickness, the third stage is oblique progradation, and the fourth and fifth stages are S-oblique composite progradation;By combining seismic data, we characterized the large-scale (8 small-scale) progradation bodies of 5 periods, clarified the distribution characteristics of reservoir planes, and laid the foundation for the later exploration of oilfield potential.

Coal correlation cannot only guide coal and coalbed methane exploitation,but may also provide valuable information for the evolution of the paleoclimate and paleoenvironment during coalaccumulation *** is difficult to undertake coal correlation in a terrestrial basin due to multiple superimposed coal seams and a lack of effective marker *** this study,based on the analyses of coal-bearing sedimentary environments and the observations of field outcrops and drilling cores,three key sequence surfaces of the Middle Jurassic Xishanyao Formation were identified in the middle part of the southern Junggar *** third-order sequences(S.Ⅲ1,S.Ⅲ2 and S.Ⅲ3)and ten fourth-order sequences were divided within the Xishanyao *** coal correlation was finally identified,combined with the layered vertical pattern coal and its interval thickness,coal maceral,and coal quality *** terms of the coal correlation within a specific sequence set,the interval of the B2–B3 coals was approximately three times thicker than that of the B3–B5 coals,which was the main marker for regional coal correlation in the Lower Xishanyao ***,the phenomena of steadily developed B4 coal seam(2–3 m in thickness)across the Liuhuanggou coal mining area(eastern study region)and the large-small-large variation for intervals between the B8 and B9,B9 and B10,and B10 and B11 coal seams in the Manasi coal mining(western study region)were also an effective means for local coal *** vitrinite and sulphur content and decreasing inertinite content in a third-order sequence were found,which were likely to be closely related to lake level *** on the variation of coal macerals,the wildfire frequency gradually decreased from the bottom to the top of the Xishanyao *** predicted O2level of the S.Ⅲ1,S.Ⅲ2,and S.Ⅲ3 of the Xishanyao Formation was 26.36%,24.22%,and 22.51%,*** for global paleoclimate effects,the provenance dire

The Toarcian Marrat Formation is exposed in outcrops in central Saudi Arabia and displays a variety of clastic and carbonate facies associated with well-preserved depositional geometries. It is unconformably overlies the Triassic Minjur Formation and it in turn is overlaid by the Middle Jurassic Dhruma Formation. Thirteen lithofacies types can be identified that permit the recognition of five lithofacies associations in a mixed clastic/carbonate platform. These lithofacies range from low-energy peritidal, intertidal, and back-shoal to moderate-and high-energy shoal and foreshoal lithofacies associations. The Marrat Formation exhibits three depositional sequences, each sequence is grouped into a transgressive systems tract(TST) and a highstand systems tract(HST) and then bounded by sequence boundary surfaces(SBSs). The TSTs are generally identified in clastic tidal-flat beds and back-shoal wackestones, while the HST is generally recorded in the carbonate tidal-flat and shoal. The vertical succession of facies associations from peritidal to foreshoal depositional environments is indicative of a deepening upward and retrogradational systems tract, from Lower to Upper Toarcian. The correlation between the studied sections reveals a general shallowing towards the south and the similarities between the studied sequences and others in the Arabian Gulf, the northern Neo-Tethys Plate, and Gondwanaland countries.

The sedimentary successions around the Carboniferous-Permian boundary(CPB)in the Ordos Basin were investigated using extensive outcrop,borehole,well logging,thin section,and geochemistry data to study sedimentary and sequence stratigraphic responses to glaciation and volcanism in paleotropical transitional *** the studied interval,five distinct lithofacies have been identified,including bauxite,coal,and carbonaceous shale(No.8+9 coal seams),sandstone(Qiaotou),limestone(Baode),and mudstone,which can be classified into three lithofacies *** most complete lithofacies associ-ation is composed of bauxite,coal,carbonaceous shale,sandstone,limestone/mudstone or their combinations from the bottom to the top,while coal and carbonaceous shale,as well as sandstone,are absent locally,resulting in the formation of the other two types of lithofacies *** occurrence of bauxite in-dicates shelf exposure and weathering,the occurrence of coal and carbonaceous shale indicates swampiness of the shelf,and the occurrence of sandstone reveals river rejuvenation;all of these are thought to be sedimentary responses to the transcontinental glacier expansion in Gondwana around the *** presence of limestone and mudstone indicates carbonate platform and lagoon deposition,respectively,in the context of the earliest Asselian transgression caused by volcanism-induced glacier *** lithofacies associations record the regressive-transgressive cycles that occurred because of glaciation and volcanism near the *** top surface of bauxite can be used as a sequence boundary,while the lowstand systems tract consists of the No.8+9 coal seams and the Qiaotou sandstone,and the transgressive systems tract consists of the overlying Baode limestone and laterally equivalent *** lowstand systems tract,which contains source rock and hydrocarbon reservoirs,and the overlying transgressive systems tract,which serves as cap rock,form an excellent source-reservoi

The Lower Cretaceous sections in northern Sinai are composed of the Risan Aneiza(upper Barremian-middle Albian) and the Halal(middle Albian-lower Cenomanian) formations. The facies reflect subtle paleobathymetry from inner to outer ramp facies. The inner ramp facies are peritidal, protected to open marine lagoons, shoals and rudist biostrome facies. The inner ramp facies grade northward into outer ramp deposits. The upper Barremian-lower Cenomanian succession is subdivided into nine depositional sequences correlated with those recognized in the neighbouring Tethyan areas. These sequences are subdivided into 19 medium-scale sequences based on the facies evolution, the recorded hardgrounds and flooding surfaces, interpreted as the result of eustatic sea level changes and local tectonic activities of the early Syrian Arc rifting stage. Each sequence contains a lower retrogradational parasequence set that constituted the transgressive systems tracts and an upper progradational parasequence set that formed the highstand systems tracts. Nine rudist levels are recorded in the upper Barremian through lower Cenomanian succession at Gabal Raghawi. At Gabal Yelleg two rudist levels are found in the Albian. The rudist levels are associated with the highstand systems tract deposits because of the suitability of the trophic conditions in the rudist-dominated ramp.

The Lower Permian Shanxi （山西） Formation is one of the main gas-bearing stratio graphic units in northeastern Ordos （鄂尔多斯） Basin, China. Based on an integrated investigation of well logs, cores, and outcrop, we delineated the sedimentary facies of the lower member of the Shanxi Formation and divided the succession into three third-order sequences from base to top as SQ1, SQ2, and SQ3. The lower region of Shanxi Formation was deposited in the following sedimentary facies or subfacies： subaqueous braided channel, subaqueous interdistributary, mouth bar, swamp and shelf in the Daniudi （~z~=J~） Gas Field and braided channel, and shelf and lake at Heidaigon （~J） outcrop. Braided-river deposits form the lowstand systems tract （LST） in each sequence. Braided channels mark the sequence boundaries at Heidaigou outcrop. A shelf and lake depositional environment with dark gray mudstone forms the transgressive systems tract （TST）. The location where dark gray mudstone first appears above the braided channel marks the first flooding surface （FFS）, and the end of that marks the maximum flooding surface （MFS）. The highstand systems tract （HST） deposits are fine-grained sediments with an aggradational parasequence at Heidaigou outcrop and swamp coalbed in the Daniudi Gas Field. Mouth-bar sand bodies in braided delta front, which form the LST in each sequence, form excellent reservoirs in the Daniudi Gas Field.

Based on the lithologies,sedimentary structures,graptolite zones,inorganic geochemical characteristics,electrical data of 110 shale gas wells in southern Sichuan Basin and the mineral quantitative analysis technology of scanning electron microscope,the stratigraphic sequences of the Upper Ordovician Katian Stage-Himantian Stage-Silurian Rhuddanian Stage-Aeronian Stage are divided,the sedimentary characteristics and fourth-order sequence evolution are *** target layer can be divided into two sequences,namely SQ1 and *** to Ordovician-Silurian sedimentary background,the gamma value of the target layer and U/Th,5 maximum flooding surfaces and 12 system tracts are *** to system tracts and their combinations,eight fourth-order sequences are identified,namely,Pss1-Pss8 from old to *** development period and scale of dominant shale facies from Katian stage to Aeronian stage in southern Sichuan are *** best-quality dolomite/calcite-bearing siliceous shale facies,siliceous shale facies,clay-bearing siliceous shale facies and feldspar-bearing siliceous shale facies mainly occur in Pss3-Pss5 of Weiyuan,Western Chongqing and Luzhou,Pss6 of Western Changning-Northern Luzhou-Central Western Chongqing and Pss3-Pss4 of *** siliceous clay shale facies second in quality mainly occurs in Pss6 of Southern Luzhou-Changning area(excluding Western Changning area),Pss7 of Eastern Weiyuan-Northern Western Chongqing-Southern Luzhou and Pss8 of Northern Luzhou-Weiyuan-Western *** fourth-order sequence evolution model of Katian stage-Aeronian stage in southern Sichuan is *** the depositional period of Pss1-Pss8,the sea level had six regressions and five transgressions,and the first transgression SQ2-MFS1 after glaciation was the largest flooding surface.
