[ Objective] To find the dominant rabies virus strains that are epidemic in Guangdong Province and thus to better prevent and control rabies. [ Method] Canine brains and salivary glands collected from several regions of Guangdong Province were detected by direct imrnunofluorescence assay and nested RT-PCR. The isolates were further identified by intracranial inoculation in suckling mice. The N gene was amplified by RTPCR and the sequences were aligned with those of prevalent strains in Guangxi region and vaccine strains. [ Result] Two strains were isolated from specimens collected from Guangdong Province. Their N gene sequences had a high similarity of 97.9% -99.4% to those of Guangxi strains and also had a similarity of 87.7% -88.1% to those of vaccine strains of rabies virus. [ Conclusion] Apparently healthy dogs may carry rabies virus, and the prevalence of rabies virus shows obvious regional differences.

Eleven RNA virus 4(PiRV-4) were detected from the 42 Phytophthora infestans isolates sampled from Shanxi Province,China and *** of the eleven viral genomes consist of2 904 nucleotides,encoding an RdRp protein of 962 amino acids(aa).The genomes share 98%9%nucleotide and aa sequence identities with the three reference PiRV-4 sequences(FLa2005,US970001 and MX980317) downloaded from *** analysis shows that the 11 sequences from the current study clustered them together with the references in the Narnavirus clade,suggesting that PiRV-4 is likely a species in the genus Narnavirus.

Four new species of the genus Hymenoscyphus (fungi) based on morphology and molecular data

Four new species of Hymenoscyphus (H. brevicellulus, H. hyaloexcipulus, H. microcaudatus, and H. subsymmetricus) and a new Chinese record (H. subpallescens) are described. These five species share common characteristics: small apothecia (analyses of internal transcribed spacer nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences, the universal DNA barcode for fungi, for 16 species in the genus indicated that these taxa were closely related to H. microserotinus, in accordance with their morphological features, but represented independent species. The distinguishing features of each new species from its relatives are discussed, and their phylogenetic relationships explored.
