The effects of microfilament and microtubule inhibitors and periodic electrical impulses on phloem transport in pea seedling

In phloem transport, whether protoplasmic activity participates in assisting sap flow in sieve element_companion cell complex has long been in debate. The present investigation assumed microfilament (MF) and microtubule (MT), the two constituents of the protoplasmic cytoskeleton, as motive force, and employed germinating pea seedling.suspended in moist chamber as experimental material: the seed being the source; the elongating root, the sink. 14 C_labeled sucrose was added to the seed as indicator. The amount of sap transported from source to sink was measured by the increase in root elongation. The transport phloem was within the cylinder of the peeled root in the middle. The exposed cylinder was treated with MF inhibitor (cytochalasin B), or microtubule inhibitor (amiphos_methyl). Results showed that the sap influx into the elongating root, and the 14 C activity as well, was reduced by about one half in treatment with cytochalasin B, and much less by amiphos_methyl treatment. Similar effect was shown in electrical impulse treatment, which seems to disrupt the MF and MT configuration.

In order to improve the quality of seedling. and economic benefits,rare--earth experiments were carried out on eleven seedling.age-types of four silvicultral *** indexes such as the increment,biomass and chlorophyl content *** results showed that rare-earth can improve the growth in height anddiameter,increase the bioprductivity and increase the mean benefit by887766.29 yuan/hm^*** is an effective method to improve the quality of seedling. for the characters such as lowcost and easy *** the method can be widely used in seedling.

Effect of Browsing on the Growth of Jojoba seedling. in the Dry-Lands of Kenya

Jojoba is a desert shrub,introduced in the marginal areas of Kenya during *** domestication is being faced by browsing problems due to pastoralism in these *** browsing of leaves lowers photosynthesis leading to decline in plant *** experiment was set up in Maungu,with the aim of determining the effect of browsing on jojoba *** experimental design was a randomized complete block design with three treatments replicated three *** treatments consisted of varying levels of browsing as follows:non browsed,50%browsed and fully *** were raised for six months before *** assessed were:survival,height,root-collar diameter,leaf size,root length and number,internode length,sprout number,root/shoot ratio and total *** was performed to determine differences among the treatments whilst significant differences among the means were separated using least significant difference(LSD)at p≤*** showed fully browsed seedling. were significantly lower in height(26.2 cm),internode length(9.7 mm),leaf length(18.3 mm)and width(10.4 mm)and total fresh plant biomass(11.0 g)compared to the non browsed ones which showed 31.1 cm,23.2,36.1 and 16.6 mm and 17.8 g,*** the other hand,fully browsed seedling. showed significantly higher root/shoot *** growth was negatively affected by severity of browsing which resulted in stunted *** study recommended that browsing of seedling. should be prevented since it hinders plant growth.
