Introduction: The level of schooling of mothers is a determining factor in the follow-up of pregnancy and consequently the prognosis of childbirth and the quality of the newborn. Objective: The aim was to assess the impact of the level of education on the follow-up of their pregnancy and perinatal prognosis at the Reference Health Centre of Commune V of the District of Bamako. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective, cross-sectional and analytical study aimed descriptive from August 15 to December 15, 2021. We included in this study all pregnant women who had a gestational age of at least 22 weeks of amenorrhea and who gave birth or were received in the immediate postpartum period at the maternity ward of the Reference Health Center of Commune V. Results: Out-of-school parturients accounted for 60% of cases. Among the parturients in school, 18% had a higher level. In our study, 14.3% of women in labour knew the date of the last menstrual period. In our series, 100% of mothers in higher and secondary school had completed an antenatal consultation (CPN) compared to 90.7% in the out-of-school mothers. CPN1 was performed in the first trimester of pregnancy in 21.1% among out-of-school parturients compared to 83.5% among higher-level parturients. The number of NPCs was greater than or equal to 4 in 47.9% of parturients. Conclusion: Women’s schooling has an impact on their socio-economic conditions on the one hand and on the monitoring and prognosis of pregnancies on the other.

De-schooling Well-being: Toward a Learning-Oriented Definition

Purpose:(1)Critique conventional schooling as detrimental to student well-being and learning.(2)Articulate an alternative that is more conducive to learning and well-being in classrooms,schools,and educational systems.Design/Approach/Methods:I review the historical functions of compulsory schooling,the main critiques to conventional schooling developed over the past century,emerging knowledge on the neuroscience of learning and well-being,and cases of large-scale pedagogical transformation from the Global South.Findings:I argue that conventional schooling is detrimental to well-being,that deep learning is a precursor of well-being,and that compulsory schooling is not designed to cultivate it.Well-being has to be de-schooled so that students thrive in schools:The grammar of schooling has to be replaced with the language of learning.This requires deep and widespread cultural change,and some movements of pedagogical renewal from the Global South offer important lessons on how to accomplish this.Originality/Value:Expanding the scope of existing debates about student well-being by questioning the assumption that compulsory schooling is inherently good and pointing out that unless the default culture of schooling is replaced with cultures of robust learning,student well-being efforts will simply reproduce the very problems they seek to solve.

Animated images in the analysis of zebrafish behavior

This invited review is based upon a recent oral paper I presented at the Virtual Reality Symposiumof the 34th International Ethological Conference （2015, Cairns, Australia）, and as such it describesstudies conducted mainly in my own laboratory. It reviews how we utilized visual stimuli for induc-ing behavioral responses in the zebrafish with a focus on shoaling, group forming behavior. Thezebrafish is gaining increasing popularity in neuroscience. With this interest, its behavior is alsomore frequently studied. One of the many advantages of the zebrafish over traditional laboratoryrodents is that this species is diurnal, and it relies heavily upon its visual system. Thus, similarly toour own species, zebrafish respond to visual stimuli in a robust and easily quantifiable manner. Forthe past decade, we have been exploring how to use such visual stimuli, and have developed nu-merous paradigms with which we can induce and quantify a variety of behavioral responses,including shoaling. This review summarizes some of these studies, and discusses questions includ-ing whether one should use live fish as stimulus, whether and how one could present animated（moving images） of fish, and how one could optimize a range of stimulus presentation parametersto elicit the most robust responses in zebrafish. Although the zebrafish is a relative newcomer inethology and behavioral neuroscience, and although many of our findings only represent the firststeps in this research, our results suggest that the behavioral analysis of the zebrafish will have animportant place in biomedical research.

The Future of Learning and the Future of Assessment

Purpose:The aim of this article is to point out that assessment should serve as useful information about the development of learners’capabilities,but not define,measure,evaluate,and confer“merit.”Design/Approach/Methods:By arguing the current assessments are institutionalized which have deeply embedded social,cultural,and political purposes and ignoring learning at the individual or collective level,this article redefines learning,schooling,and assessment.Learning should be embodied,highly individualized,highly contextual,and lifelong,so schooling and assessment should support such learning form rather than perform attainment,custody,and control.Neurological basis of learning in human beings supports the new definition.Findings:Assessment should provide valuable information to guide,give feedback,and support the dynamic feature of learning.Future assessment is a tool to reflect how learners judge their learning,how they develop as a learning organism,and how they have the ability to develop agency and control over learning.Originality/Value:This article gives learning,schooling,and assessment new definitions combining the current situation and neurological evidence.It would be a thorough and novel guideline for the designing of future assessment.

Assessment of Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Related to Contraceptive Use among Teenagers in High Schools and Colleges in Dakar, Senegal

Introduction: In Senegal, adolescents aged 10 to 19 years represent 22.9% of the total population. The unmet need for contraception in this part of the population remains high despite the health interventions implemented to promote their sexual health. The aim of this study is to analyze the practice of modern contraception in schools in Dakar high schools in Senegal during the year 2018. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in high schools and colleges in Dakar from March 1 to April 30, 2018. This study involved 452 students. This was a self-administration of the questionnaires. After univaried and bivaried analyses, a multivariate logistic analysis identified the factors associated with students’ use of modern contraception. Results: The prevalence of modern contraceptive use among students is 8.84%. Factors associated with the use of modern contraceptive methods among students were age over 18 years (AR: 4.7, 95% CI [1.02 - 22.5]), male sex (AR: 27.8, 95% CI [6.8 - 100.0]), secondary school level (AR: 10.6, 95% CI [2.1 - 53.0]), access to a youth socio-educational home (AR: 3.9, 95% CI [1.1 - 14.9]) and having a child (AR: 25.6, 95% CI [2.2 - 100.0]). Conclusion: Our results concluded that modern contraceptive needs were better met among older male students, those who had an unfortunate experience of unwanted pregnancy and those attending school’s youth socio-educational homes. This suggests shortcomings in the promotion of sexual health among younger students, particularly those in the secondary grades.

西方工业革命以来，美国教育的大众化趋势似乎使教育机会均等成为现实。这样美国的学校教育在西方民主化进程中，开始扮演着世界宗教的角色，不断创造着新的社会神话，并有效地维护了这种神话。但是这种神话建构的基础和目的是什么呢？为此，本文利用现有的资料文献首先对资本主义美国的学校制度和功能作出分析。其次，通过西方社会学家的研究成果，可以看到劳工阶级的孩子为什么还会像他们的父辈一样，遭受着学业失败并适应“工厂——地板文化”的。第三，学校中为什么存在着一种“反学校文化”现象，这种文化是劳工阶级权力的一种延伸吗？第四，透过资本主义美国的学校制度，我们可以理解学校教育是怎样制造社会神话的，并有效地维护着它。
