Graphene resting on a silicon-on-insulator platform offers great potential for optoelectronic *** the paper,we demonstrate all-optical modulation on the graphene-silicon hybrid waveguides(GSHWs)with tens of micrometers in *** to strong interaction between graphene and silicon strip waveguides with compact light confinement,the modulation depth reaches 22.7%with a saturation threshold down to 1.38 pJ per pulse and a 30-μm-long graphene pad.A response time of 1.65 ps is verified by a pump-probe measurement with an energy consumption of 2.1 *** complementary metal-oxide semiconductor compatible GSHWs with the strip configuration exhibit great potential for ultrafast and broadband all-optical modulation,indicating that employing two-dimensional materials has become a complementary technology to promote the silicon photonic platform.

The emerging two-dimensional(2D)platinum disulfide(PtS_(2))has driven increasing attentions due to its high electron mobility,good air-stability,and strong interlayer interaction which leads to a widely tunable electronic ***,a detailed study on its covalent-like layer-dependent properties remains ***,we demonstrate the successful production of ultrathin 1T-PtS_(2) ribbons with thickness centralized almost at monolayer 1L-4L and large domain size up to 210 μm on Au foils using chemical vapor deposition(CVD)technique,which enables macro-and microscopic study of its extraordinary layer-dependent features with precise control of the number of *** electron energy loss spectroscopy(EELS)and optical pump-probe spectroscopy(OPPS),we reveal that both the electron and ultrafast optical absorption signals of the as-grown 2D PtS_(2) show strong nonlinear layer-dependent responses which manifest discriminated transition in 1L-4L PtS_(2) *** layer-dependent nonlinear response of 2D PtS_(2) can be well interpreted in the frame of calculated electron and phonon *** achievements offer a platform for successfully fabricating large-sized ultrathin 2D PtS_(2) and facilitating our knowledge about its electronic and optoelectronic properties.

Tailoring the Diameter of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes for Optical Applications

Single-walled carbon nanotubes （SWCNTs） with specific diameters are required for various applications particularly in electronics and photonics, since the diameter is an essential characteristic determining their electronic and optical properties. In this work, the selective growth of SWCNTs with a certain mean diameter is achieved by the addition of appropriate amounts of CO2 mixed with the carbon source （CO） into the aerosol （floating catalyst） chemical vapor deposition reactor. The noticeable shift of the peaks in the absorption spectra reveals that the mean diameters of the as-deposited SWCNTs are efficiently altered from 1.2 to 1.9 nm with increasing CO2 concentration. It is believed that CO2 acts as an etching agent and can selectively etch small diameter tubes due to their highly curved carbon surfaces. Polymer-free as-deposited SWCNT films with the desired diameters are used as saturable absorbers after stamping onto a highly reflecting Ag-mirror using a simple dry-transfer technique. Sub-picosecond mode-locked fiber laser operations at -1.56μm and -2 μm are demonstrated, showing improvements in the performance after the optimization of the SWCNT properties.

Graphene-doped polymer nanofibers are fabricated by taper drawing of solvated polyvinyl alcohol doped with liquid-phase exfoliated graphene *** drawn this way typically have diameters measured in hundreds of nanometers and lengths in tens of millimeters;they show excellent uniformity and surface smoothness for optical *** to their tightly confined waveguiding behavior,light–matter interaction in these subwavelength-diameter nanofibers is significantly *** approximately 1350-nm-wavelength femto-second pulses,we demonstrate saturable absorption behavior in these nanofibers with a saturation threshold down to 0.25 pJ pulse^(-1)(peak power,1.3 W).Additionally,using 1064-nm-wavelength nanosecond pulses as switching light,we show all-optical modulation of a 1550-nm-wavelength signal light guided along a single nanofiber with a switching peak power of,3.2 W.

We demonstrate the generation of noise-like pulses(NLPs)and soliton rains in a graphene saturable absorber modelocked erbium-doped fiber *** NLPs are obtained at a proper pump power and in a cavity polarization *** soliton rain operation with multiple solitons can be achieved by finely adjusting the cavity polarization *** addition,distinctive multi-soliton interactions are observed and investigated,including the fundamental mode-locking and multiple *** experimental results can help further understand nonlinear pulse dynamics in ultrafast optics.

Copper(Cu)nanoparticles(NPs)are synthesized under the near-surface region of the Nd∶Y_(3)Al_(5)O_(12)(Nd:YAG)crystal by direct Cu^(+)ions ***,the monolithic ridge waveguide with embedded Cu NPs is fabricated by C^(4+)ions irradiation and diamond saw *** nonlinear optical response of the sample is investigated by the Z-scan technique,and pronounced saturable absorption is observed at the 1030 nm femtosecond *** on the obvious saturable absorption of Cu NPs embedded Nd:YAG crystal,1μm monolithic mode-locked pulsed waveguide laser is implemented by evanescent field interaction between NPs and waveguide modes,reaching the pulse duration of 24.8 ps and repetition rate of 7.8 *** work combines waveguides with NPs,achieving pulsed laser devices based on monolithic waveguide chips.

Nonlinear materials have gained wide interest as saturable absorbers and pulse compression for pulsed laser applications due to their unique optical *** work investigates the third-order nonlinear phenomenon of tungsten trioxide(WO_(3))thin *** giant nonlinear absorption and nonlinear refractive index of WO_(3)thin films were characterized by Z-scan method at 800 *** experimentally observed the giant saturable absorption(SA)and nonlinear refractive index of WO_(3)thin films prepared by the seedless layer hydrothermal method,with SA coefficient being as high as-2.59×105cm·GW^(-1).The SA coefficient is at least one order of magnitude larger than those of the conventional *** nonlinear refractive index n_(2)of WO_(3)film has been observed for the first time in recent studies and the corresponding coefficient can be up to 1.793 cm^(2)·GW^(-1).The large third-order nonlinear optical(NLO)response enables WO_(3)thin films to be promising candidates for optoelectronic and photonic applications in the near-infrared domain.
