Deducing Complete Selection rule Set for Driver Nodes to Guarantee Network’s Structural Controllability

Structural controllability is critical for operating and controlling large-scale complex networks. In real applications, for a given network, it is always desirable to have more selections for driver nodes which make the network structurally controllable. Different from the works in complex network field where structural controllability is often used to explore the emergence properties of complex networks at a macro level,in this paper, we investigate it for control design purpose at the application level and focus on describing and obtaining the solution space for all selections of driver nodes to guarantee structural controllability. In accord with practical applications,we define the complete selection rule set as the solution space which is composed of a series of selection rules expressed by intuitive algebraic forms. It explicitly indicates which nodes must be controlled and how many nodes need to be controlled in a node set and thus is particularly helpful for freely selecting driver nodes. Based on two algebraic criteria of structural controllability, we separately develop an input-connectivity algorithm and a relevancy algorithm to deduce selection rules for driver nodes. In order to reduce the computational complexity,we propose a pretreatment algorithm to reduce the scale of network's structural matrix efficiently, and a rearrangement algorithm to partition the matrix into several smaller ones. A general procedure is proposed to get the complete selection rule set for driver nodes which guarantee network's structural controllability. Simulation tests with efficiency analysis of the proposed algorithms are given and the result of applying the proposed procedure to some real networks is also shown, and these all indicate the validity of the proposed procedure.

Mercury emitted from direct combustion of high-mercury coal does great harm to the environment. To make good use of high-mercury coal, it is necessary to study the occurrence characteristics of mercury in coal and high-efficient methods of mercury removal. In this paper, high-mercury coal of Guizhou Province of China was taken as an object to study the nature of mercury in coal and the rule of mercury removal by dry preparation method. Mercury mainly distributes in the medium and high density fractions, and has a good affinity with silicon, aluminum, iron, titanium, potassium, calcium, zinc, sodium and magnesium. It exists in minerals formed by these elements and presents significant correlation with ash in coal. After the high-mercury coal is separated by air dense medium fluidized bed, mercury content of clean coal is reduced to 1/10 of raw coal, while mercury content of gangue is increased to 3 times that of raw coal. This indicates that mercury in raw coal is rejected greatly by ADMFB and enriched in highdensity fractions. The rates of ash removal and mercury removal decrease with the density and present a very high correlation.

In recent times,transformer networks have achieved state-of-the-art performance in a wide range of natural language processing tasks.Here we present a workflow based on the fine-tuning of BERT models for different downstream tasks,which results in the automated extraction of structured information from unstructured natural language in scientific literature.Contrary to existing methods for the automated extraction of structured compound-property relations from similar sources,our workflow does not rely on the definition of intricate grammar rules.Hence,it can be adapted to a new task without requiring extensive implementation efforts and knowledge.We test our data-extraction workflow by automatically generating a database for Curie temperatures and one for band gaps.These are then compared with manually curated datasets and with those obtained with a state-of-the-art rule-based method.Furthermore,in order to showcase the practical utility of the automatically extracted data in a material-design workflow,we employ them to construct machine-learning models to predict Curie temperatures and band gaps.In general,we find that,although more noisy,automatically extracted datasets can grow fast in volume and that such volume partially compensates for the inaccuracy in downstream tasks.

As an elementary particle,a photon that carries information in frequency,polarization,phase,and amplitude,plays a crucial role in modern science and technology.However,how to retrieve the full information of unknown photons in.an ultracompact manner over broad bandwidth remains a challenging task with growing importance.Here,we demonstrate a versatile photonic slide rule based on an ll-silicon metasurface that enables uS to reconstruct incident photons'frequency and polarization state.The underlying mechanism relies on the coherent interactions of frequency-driven phase diagrams which rotate at various angular velocities within broad bandwidth.The rotation direction and speed are determined by the topological charge and phase dispersion.Specificall,our metasurface leverages both achromatically focusing and azimuthally evolving phases with topological charges+1 and-1 to ensure the confocal annular intensity ditributions.The combination of geometric phase and interference holography allows the joint manipulations of two distinct group delay coverages to realize angle-resolved in-pair spots in a.transverse manner-a behavior that would disperse along longitudinal direction in conventional implementations.The spin-orbital coupling between the incident photons and vortex phases provides routing for the simultaneous identifcation of the photons'frequency and circular polarization state through recognizing the spots'locations.Our work provides an analog of the conventional slide rule to flexibly characterize the photons in an ultracompact and multifunctional way and may find applications in integrated optical circuits or pocketable devices.

The authors have been coping with new computational methodologies such as rough sets,information incompleteness,data mining,granular computing,etc.,and developed some software tools on association rules as well as new mathematical frameworks.They simply term this research Rough sets Non-deterministic Information Analysis(RNIA).They followed several novel types of research,especially Pawlak’s rough sets,Lipski’s incomplete information databases,Or?owska’s non-deterministic information systems,Agrawal’s Apriori algorithm.These are outstanding researches related to information incompleteness,data mining,and rule generation.They have been trying to combine such novel researches,and they have been trying to realise more intelligent rule generator handling data sets with information incompleteness.This study surveys the authors’research highlights on rule generators,and considers a combination of them.

While gait recognition is the mapping of a gait sequence to an identity known to the system, gait authentication refers to the problem of identifying whether a given gait sequence belongs to the claimed identity. A typical gait authentication system starts with a feature representation such as a gait template, then proceeds to extract its features, and a transformation is ultimately applied to obtain a discriminant feature set. Almost every authentication approach in literature favours the use of Euclidean distance as a threshold to mark the boundary between a legitimate subject and an impostor. This article proposes a method that uses the posterior probability of a Bayes' classifier in place of the Euclidean distance. The proposed framework is applied to template-based gait feature representations and is evaluated using the standard CASIA-B gait database. Our study experimentally demonstrates that the Bayesian posterior probability performs significantly better than the de facto Euclidean distance approach and the cosine distance which is established in research to be the current state of the art.

In this paper,the classical composite middle rectangle rule for the computation of Cauchy principal value integral(the singular kernel 1=(x-s))is discussed.With the density function approximated only while the singular kernel is calculated analysis,then the error functional of asymptotic expansion is obtained.We construct a series to approach the singular point.An extrapolation algorithm is presented and the convergence rate of extrapolation algorithm is proved.At last,some numerical results are presented to confirm the theoretical results and show the efficiency of the algorithms.

Animals have evolved foraging strategies to acquire blends of nutrients that maximize fitness traits. In social insects, nu trie nt regulation is complicated by the fact that few in dividuals, the foragers, must address the diverge nt nutritional n eeds of all colony members simulta neously, includi ng other workers, the reproductives, and the brood. Here we used 3D nutritional geometry design to examine how bumblebee workers regulate their collection of 3 major macronutrients in the presence and absenee of brood. We provided small colonies artificial nectars (liquid diets) and pollens (solid diets) varying in their compositions of proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates during 2 weeks. Colo nies give n a choice betwee n nutrition ally complementary diets self-selected foods to reach a target ratio of 71% proteins, 6% carbohydrates, and 23% lipids, irrespective of the presenee of brood. Whe n con fined to a single nutrition ally imbalanced solid diet, colonies without brood regulated lipid collection and over-collected protein relative to this target ratio, whereas colonies with brood regulated both lipid and protein collection. This brood effect on the regulation of nutrient collection by workers suggests that protein levels are critical for larval development. Our results highlight the importa nee of con sidering bee nu trition as a multidimensi onal phe no men on to better assess the effects of environmental impoverishment and malnutrition on population declines.

Experimental hybridization and reproductive isolation between two sympatric species of tephritid fruit flies in the Anastrepha fraterculus species group

Among tephritid fruit flies,hybridization has been found to produce local adaptation and speciation,and in the case of pest species,induce behavioral and ecological alterations that can adversely impact efficient pest management.Thefraterculus species group within Anastrepha (Diptera:Tephritidae),is a rapidly radiating aggregate,which includes cryptic species complexes,numerous sister species,and several pest species. Molecular studies have highlighted the possibility of introgression between A.fraterculus and A.obliqua.Reproductive isolation has been studied among morphotypes of the A. fraterculus species complex as a tool for species delimitation.Here we examined the exis- tence and strength of prezygotic and postzygotic isolation between sympatric populations of two closely related species within the highly derivedfraterculus group (A.fraterculus and A.obliqua),coexisting in nature.Although adults of both species showed a strong tendency for assortative mating,a small proportion of hybrid pairings in both directions were observed.We also observed asymmetric postzygotic isolation,with one hybrid cross displaying a strong reduction in fecundity and F1 egg fertility.Survival was greater for the progeny of homotypic and hybrid crosses in the maternal host.There was a marked female biased sex ratio distortion for both F1 hybrid adults.Hybridization between A.fraterculus and A.obliqua in nature may be difficult but possible;these two species display stronger reproductive isolation than all pairs of species previously examined in the A.fraterculus species complex.Asymmetric postzygotie isolation is suggestive of Wolbachia mediated cytoplasmic incompatibilities that may be exploited in area-wide pest management.
