Laser-assisted direct roller imprinting of large-area microstructured optical surfaces

In this study,a high-throughput fabrication method called laser-assisted direct roller imprinting(LADRI)was developed to lower the cost of nanoimprinting large-area polymer films and to address problems associated with nanoimprinting,namely,microstructural damage and precision in flatness of entire film.With LADRI,the laser directly heats the microstructured surface of the roller mold,which heats and melts the surface of a polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)film to replicate the microstructures on the mold rapidly.In this study,the effects of laser power density,scanning speed,size of the microstructures,and contact pressure on the replication speed were investigated experimentally.The replication speed increased as the power and scanning speed increased.However,because the film required heating until it filled the entire depth of the microstructure,an appropriate replication speed was necessary.This result was supported by simulation of the temperature distribution inside the mold and the PMMA using transient heat conduction analyses.To demonstrate the applications of LADRI,two different optical surfaces were replicated:an antireflection(AR)structure with conical structures sized several hundred nanometers and a lightextraction structure with a microlens array(MLA)comprising 10μm lenses,for display and illumination,respectively.The replication degree of the MLA was governed by the contact pressure.Polymer flow simulation indicated that the heat conduction and flow speeds of the melted PMMA surface were comparable within several tens of micrometers.In addition,the reflectivity of the AR structure decreased from 4 to 0.5%,and the light intensity of the light-extraction structure increased by a factor of 1.47.

Comparison of roller-spreading and blade-spreading processes in powder-bed additive manufacturing by DEM simulations

The roller-spreading and blade-spreading are main powder spreading methods in powder-bed additive manufacturing.The discrete element method was introduced to simulate nylon powder spreading by both roller and blade spreaders.The two spreading processes were compared from several aspects including particle flow behavior,particle contact forces,forces exerted on spreaders,particle segregation and powder layer density.It is found that powder spreading methods mainly affect the movement trajectory of particles,particle contact forces and forces exerted on spreaders.Complicated dispersion and circulation movement of particles occur inside the powder pile by roller-spreading,while particles have relatively weak dispersion by the blade-spreading.The normal force applied to the roller introduces a compacting effect on the powder pile and creates strong force chains that distribute uniformly in the powder pile.Therefore,the powder bed with higher density can be obtained by roller-spreading in thicker powder layer due to the compacting effect.The blade spreader sustains tangential force mainly,so the blade-spreading process limits its application to thicker powder layer.As the powder layer thickness increases,the roller-spreading is more sensitive to segregation index than that of the blade-spreading.The comprehensive comparison of two spreading processes provides criteria for selecting spreading methods.

Research on new beneficiation process of low-grade magnesite using vertical roller mill

We investigated whether the vertical roller mill can be efficiently used in the beneficiation of low-grade magnesite and whether it can improve upon the separation indices achieved by the ball mill.We conducted experiments involving the reverse flotation and positive flotation of low-grade magnesite to determine the optimum process parameters,and then performed closed-circuit beneficiation experiments using the vertical roller mill and ball mill.The results show that the optimum process parameters for the vertical roller mill are as follows:a grinding fineness of 81.6wt%of particles less than 0.074 mm,a dodecyl amine(DDA)dosage in magnesite reverse flotation of 100 g·t?1,and dosages of Na2CO3,(NaPO3)6,and NaOL in the positive flotation section of 1000,100,and 1000 g·t?1,respectively.Compared with the ball mill,the use of the vertical roller mill in the beneficiation of low-grade magnesite resulted in a 1.28%increase in the concentrate grade of MgO and a 5.88%increase in the recovery of MgO.The results of our causation mechanism analysis show that a higher specific surface area and greater surface roughness are the main reasons for the better flotation performance of particles ground by the vertical roller mill in the beneficiation of lowgrade magnesite.

Dynamics of vehicle-pavement coupled system based on a revised flexible roller contact tire model

A revised flexible roller contact tire model (RFRC tire model) is proposed, which considers not only the geometric and flexible filtering effect, but also tire damping and pavement displacement. A vehi- cle-pavement coupled system is modeled as a two DOF oscillator moving along a simply supported beam on a linear viscoelastic foundation. By using the Galerkin’s and Direct Integral method, dynamical responses of the vehicle-pavement coupled system are obtained based on the RFRC tire model and the traditional single point contact tire model (SPC tire model). The simulation results are compared with test data and the validity of the proposed RFRC tire model is verified. Differences between the two models are also investigated. It is found that the dynamical behaviors for both models agree with each other quite well when road surface roughness is a long harmonic wave. On the other hand, they are different under short harmonic wave or impulse road excitation. Thus the RFRC tire model should be used to compute the tire force and investigate dynamical responses of vehicle and pavement.

Simulation on topography of superfinished roller surfaces

As a final process in roller bearing manufacturing, Through Centerless Superfinishing is of great importance to the performance of bearings. Applied loads, rotational speeds, reciprocating frequencies and amplitude of superfinishing stones are crucial parameters, which mainly influence the surface topography, and are difficult to be adjusted to achieve optimal superfinishing effect, so product quality is unstable in practice. A superfinishing model is firstly established, which includes cutting and motion models. And then a simulation method is presented to form the topography on the condition of various combinations of the above three parameters, the effect of every parameter on the topography being clarified. This work provides a useful means to select reasonable combination of superfinishing parameters for roller bearing buildings.

The article presents a structural diagram and the principle of operation of the installation of a sewing machine for applying a polymer composition to the stitch lines of tarpaulin materials. The calculation schemes and the mathematical model of oscillations of the axis of the composite roller during the application of the polymer composition along the lines of tarpaulin materials are presented. Based on the numerical solution of the problem, the regularities of roller oscillations are presented. The main parameters of the system are substantiated.
