It is required in the diagonally loaded robust adaptive beamforming the automatic determination of the loading level which is practically a challenging problem.A constant modulus restoral method is herein presented to choose the diagonal loading level adaptively for the extraction of a desired signal with constant modulus(a common feature of the phase modulation signals).By introducing the temporal smoothing technique,the proposed constant modulus restoral diagonally loaded robust adaptive beamformer provides increased capability compared with some existing robust adaptive beamformers in rejecting interferences and noise while protecting the *** results are included to illustrate the performance of the proposed beamformer.

The performance of adaptive array beamform-ing algorithms substantially degrades in practice because of a slight mismatch between actual and presumed array res-ponses to the desired signal.A novel robust adaptive beam-forming algorithm based on Bayesian approach is therefore *** algorithm responds to the current envi-ronment by estimating the direction of arrival(DOA)of the actual signal from *** com-plexity of the proposed algorithm can thus be reduced com-pared with other algorithms since the recursive method is used to obtain inverse *** addition,it has strong robustness to the uncertainty of actual signal DOA and makes the mean output array signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio(SINR)consistently approach the *** results show that the proposed algorithm is bet-ter in performance than conventional adaptive beamform-ing algorithms.

In this paper, we propose a virtual uniform linear iterative adaptive approach（VUL-IAA） method to design robust adaptive beamformer using coprime array. We enlarge the array aperture of coprime physical array by generating a longer virtual coarray. However, the data vector in the non-uniform virtual coarray appears as one snapshot. We propose the VUL-IAA method to directly process the one-snapshot data in the longest virtual uniform linear array（VULA）. By doing this, the operations of recovering the rank of the VULA covariance matrix and constructing its full-rank version are totally avoided. Moreover, the VUL-IAA method can estimate precise powers for incident signals, which can be used to reconstruct the interference covariance matrix and determine the steering vector of signal-of-interest. We compute the weight vector of the proposed beamformer based on the coprime physical array. Simulation results show that the proposed beamformer can mitigate typical mismatches.

Due to the array steering vector errors and small-sample errors and so on,the performance of the Standard Capon Beamformer(SCB) may become worse than that of the Conventional Beamformer(CBF) in practical engineering applications. Nowadays, almost all existing algorithms to improve the robustness of SCB utilize the steepest descent method, conjugate gradient method, least mean squares(LMS) method and so on. However, most of them have the slow convergence and inefficient computation. Aiming at the above problems, this paper presents a unified process to solve them by the second-order cone programming(SOCP) theory,which can not only enhance the convergence speed but also improve the calculation accuracy so as to overcome the shortcomings of the previous optimization solutions effectively. It turns out that most adaptive beamforming algorithms involve a nonconvex problem which is minimization of a quadratic function subject to infinitely many non-convex quadratic constraints. In this paper, it is shown that the proposed algorithm can be reformulated in a convex form as the so-called SCOP and solved efficiently(in polynomial time) using the well-established interior point ***, computer simulations show the algorithm’s excellent performance as compared with existing adaptive beamforming algorithms via the computer simulation examples.

Diagonally loaded SMI algorithm based on inverse matrix recursion

The derivation of a diagonally loaded sample-matrix inversion （LSMI） algorithm on the busis of inverse matrix recursion （***-IMR algorithm） is conducted by reconstructing the recursive formulation of covariance matrix. For the new algorithm, diagonal loading is by setting initial inverse matrix without any addition of computation. In addition, a corresponding improved recursive algorithm is presented, which is low computational complexity. This eliminates the complex multiplications of the scalar coefficient and updating matrix, resulting in significant computational savings. Simulations show that the LSMI-IMR algorithm is valid.
