For the last several years or so, Western media and mainstream politicians have chosen to largely ignore the Belt and Road Initiative, which Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed in 2013. The initiative, consisting of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, efficiently addresses the infrastructure needs of developing countries, which the West simply pretended not to exist.

The digital images generated by remote sensors often contain noises that are inherent in the process of imaging and transmission. The application of digital processing techniques greatly enhances the ability to extract information on surface targets from remote sensing data. When digital images are used with high spatial resolution, one of the problems emerging the high variability of targets presents in such images. From the computational point of view, the use of partial differential equations is favored by the large number of numerical methods showed in the literature. Many of the models are considered non-complex both from the mathematical and computational standpoints, due to the characteristics of explicit equations. This work uses techniques of the partial differential equations (PDE) and mathematical morphology to extract cartographic features in digital images of the remote sensing. The selected study area corresponds to an image containing part of the Mário Covas Ring Road, located in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo (SP), Brazil. The results are promising and show the high potential of using mathematical morphology in the field of cartography.

Drovers’ roads have been a key part of transhumant pastoralism for decades, being the routes on which to drive livestock, and it is for this reason that they are protected by Spanish law, specifically Law 3/1995, by which they were declared public goods. At the same time, their particular nature also means that they also possess characteristics which are typical of other types of public goods;therefore, in order to estimate their value, market-based techniques cannot be used. This study centres on a project for the restoration for recreational purposes of the Ca?ada Real del Reino de Valencia, a drovers’ road in the Valencia region of Spain. In order to establish its economic value, the contingent valuation method has been used: this is the most commonly used technique for the valuation of non-market goods and it is widely attested in the economic literature, being used in a large number of different settings. Assuming a useful life of 25 years and a social discount rate of 5%, the value of the Ca?ada Real del Reino de Valencia has been estimated at €441.82 million, indicating the value which society places on the drovers’ road. This estimation may assist in improving the efficiency of public spending policies.

"All-for-one tourism" emphasizes the transformation of tourism from the original single scenic spot service to "traveling on the road",and advocates the guiding destination service of integrating transportation and surrounding scenery *** the most abundant carrier of tourism environment,mountainous scenic spots are valued more by the development of natural tourism *** addition to the characteristics of scenic spots,how to use scenic roads to create a regional atmosphere has become a focus of tourism *** scenic roads of Nanshan in Chongqing as an example,this study analyzed the key points of road landscape upgrading under different construction levels,and put forward design strategies from the perspective of regional characteristics and regional cultural elements,so as to effectively enhance the regional landscape characteristics of the roads,with a view to providing reference for relevant planning and design.

Chimed Dorje is a mail truck driver for China Post in Garze County, Sichuan Province, and is responsible for delivering mail on the Garze to Dege section of the Sichuan-Tibet postal network. For 30 years, he has been driving mail trucks on snow-covered roads at an average elevation of 3500 meters. Though an ordinary worker, he has made extraordinary achievements. With great passion and a powerful sense of duty, he has taken it as his mission to ensure that the postal system serves the people, thus helping to create and safeguard better lives for the Tibetan people.

The ancient Silk Road allowed for exchange of commodities, convergence of cultures, inclusiveness between civilizations, communication between peoples, and scientific and technological interaction, and thus enabled the people of all countries along its path to become authors of a grand epic of mutual economic benefit and cultural inspiration.

Widespread implementation of the DCP-DN design method for low volume roads has been promoted internationally over the past decade or so. The method has progressed from a simple determination of the in situ CBR investigation based on DCP-CBR correlations with respective cover requirements to a more sophisticated method using the DCP penetration data directly and omitting any need to use correlations with the CBR. This paper summarises the development of the method, and some of its advantages and compares the design structures with other recognised and widely implemented designs.

This case study examines how the Hampton roads Sea Level Rise Preparedness and Resilience Intergovernmental Planning Pilot Project, a whole-of-government and whole-of-community approach to planning for and adapting to sea level rise, addressed coastal resilience in a southeastern Virginia watershed that spans multiple jurisdictions. Meeting the challenge of sea level rise requires that actors across multiple sectors—citizens, community organizations, industry and government—understand the risks and work together to make critical decisions regarding adaptation strategies and actions. The case study area includes Little Creek Amphibious Base, which is bordered by the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Adaptation responses to sea level rise by the military base and the local governments will impact each other and the residents of the area, but no cooperative agreements are in place for a joint or collaborative response. This case study examines public and private infrastructure at risk, the infrastructure interdependencies, and mechanisms for providing collaborative solutions. Engagement of area residents and other stakeholders is also integral to the process of adaptation, which includes educating about sea level rise risk and provides a mechanism for social learning that enables stakeholders to participate in critical adaptation decisions. The case study demonstrates a method to improve resiliency in the case study area and inform a regional, multi-sectoral response to sea level rise adaptation strategies.
