Occurrence of rice leaf roller in China and Its Identification and Prevention

rice leaf roller （Cnaphalocrocis medinalis Guenée） is a migratory pest, which mainly causes damage on rice. The morphology characteristic of rice leaf roller is introduced, which is also compared with the morphology characteristic of the other insects such as Susumia exigua Butler and Tryporyza incertulas （walker）. The occurrence law, living habit and selection of prevention pesticides against rice leaf roller in China are summarized, which will provide the intergrated situation of rice leaf roller in China for worldwide further research on the insect.

Characteristic analysis of tetra-resistant genetically modified rice

In this study, the characteristic of three transformants named as B1C106-1, B1C106-2, and B1C106-3 were studied that carried three innate resistant genes Bph14, Bph15, and Xa23, and two enthetic resistant genes CrylCa# and Bar. The five resistant genes were all verified by PCR and the two enthetic genes were identified in single copy insertion by Southern blot. At tillering stage, the CrylC and PAT （phosphinothricin acetyl transferase） protein contents in leaf, sheath, and stem of T2 generation were in the similar pattern： leaf〉stem〉sheath, and showed significant difference （P〈0.01） among three organs. The average contents of CrylC protein in plant of B1C106-1, B1C106-2, and BIC106-3 were 12.95, 6.57, and 11.30 μg g-1, respectively, and showed significant difference （P〈0.01） among them. However, the average contents of PAT in plant of B1C106-1, B1C106-2, and B1C106-3 were 28.54, 27.66, and 28.02 pg g-1, respectively, and there were no significant difference among three transformants. The glufosinate tolerable concentration of three transformants of T3 generation reached at least 6 g L-1, and the mortality of rice leaf rollers were above 97.4% in 5 days after being fed with fresh transformants＇ leaves. The CrylC protein toxicity was also assessed by silkworms, and the mortality of silkworms feeding mulberry leaves smeared with Cry1C protein extracts of leaves of B1 C106-1, BIC106-2, and B1 C106-3 were 90, 67.8, and 87.8%, respectively, that were positive correlation （r=0.993） with CrylC protein contents in plant of three transformants. The three transformants also maintained high resistance to brown planthopper and bacterial blight as the original version. The above results indicate the tetra-resistant rice germplasm was well-developed by pyramiding innate and enthetic resistant genes in an elite line to provide with resistances of glufosinate, rice leaf roller, brown planthopper, and bacterial blight.

Despite the importance of reproduction in insects,its relation with multi-stop flight remains poorly understood in migratory *** clarify whether reproductive maturation commences during the multi-stop flight or after the completion of migration,we conducted physiological and behavioral assays in the rice leaf roller Cnaphalocrocis medinalis with laboratory-simulated conditions and field-captured *** found that the ovarian development was significantly promoted by tethered flight treatment for 1-2 nights when compared to the unflown group,while the flight muscle development was not *** was no significant difference in flight duration,flight distance and flight velocity between mated and virgin female moths,indicating that mated moths remained competent for the subsequent flights as did the *** an integrated field assay,we identified that over 60%of the female moths in the migrating populations cap-tured by high-altitude searchlights in the Immigration period of a season had completed the ovarian development and *** mature and mated moths collected in the rice field in the Emigration period were found capable of engaging in migratory take-off,as observed using an indoor monitoring ***,our findings point out that ***-inalis managed to complete reproductive maturation to a large extent during the multi-stop migratory flight without compromising the migration *** a cost-effective strategy ensures a successful migration for the *** findings advance our under-standing of the relationship between reproduction and migration,thus shedding light on the development of novel control measures for the outbreak of migratory insect pests.

SIMULATION AND OPTIMAL MANAGEMENT OF THE PEST-NATURAL ENEMY-INSECTICIDE SYSTEM OF PADDY FIELDS IN MIDDLE SEASON rice CROPPING REGION

Investigations on the pest-natural enemy-insecticide system, including rice leaf rollerspider-tamaron and planthopper-spider-tamaron system, were carried out in the paddy fields in middle season rice cropping region. The relationship among insect pest, natural enemy and insecticide were studied based on the principle of the pest management system engineering. The optimal management models of the two systems were developed. Their diagrams of optimal feedback control strategy were contoured for computer monitoring of the pest-natural enemy-insecticide system. The population densities of pest and natural enemy in the future could be forecasted and the optimal strategy could be made when the current field densities of pest and natural enemy were input into the computer. The optimal performance index, which is a combination of the total cost of using the chemical and the total cost of pest damage to crops, for pest control is minimized. The objective of the system management is to drive the state of the system towards a beneficial equilibrium of the system generally. A comparison of the new IPM strategy with the ordinary strategy based on a single economic threshold is conducted in this paper. The optimal control strategies suggest that both pest and natural enemy populations should be controlled in the integrated pest management.

Relationship between “Two Insects and One Spider” and Their Occurrence and Damage Regularity during Different Sowing Periods in Single Cropping Hybrid rice

[Objective]The paper was to study the relationship between rice leaf roller,rice planthopper and spider and their ecological regulation ability in the field.[Method]The population dynamics of rice leaf roller,rice planthopper and spider at three different sowing and transplanting periods of single cropping hybrid rice in the treatment area with combination of 3 drug formulations and untreated area were monitored.[Result]There were significant or extremely significant positive correlations among rice leaf roller,rice planthopper and spider in single cropping hybrid ***,with the delay of planting and transplanting period,the population fluctuation crest of rice leaf roller and rice planthopper decreased,but the intensity increased with the advance of time,and the natural ecological regulation ability was relatively improved.[Conclusion]The sowing period of single cropping hybrid rice is delayed 5-10 d compared with conventional rice,that is,sowing in late May and early *** seedling age of 20-30 d is beneficial not only to reduce the initial population quantity of rice leaf roller and rice planthopper in the field,but also to increase the population quantity of spiders.
