Aroma touch therapy is widely used in clinical fields for alleviating pain-related symptoms;however, few studies have reported the pain-relief mechanisms. The present study aimed to elucidate the analgesic effects of aroma touch therapy with Citrus junos oil based on the quantitative evaluation of deep brain network (DBN) activity using electroencephalogram (EEG) occipital alpha-2 rhythm (10-13 Hz) powers. Experimental investigations were performed with 13 healthy volunteers using the cold pressor task for simulating chronic pain in three different sessions: a baseline session with no therapies, a control session with a touch therapy, and an aroma touch therapy. We have found for the first time that the interviewed pain ratings represented by Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) scores were strongly correlated with a DBN activity index, which was derived from the slow fluctuation components of occipital EEG alpha-2 rhythm powers. The correlation was characterized by a V-shaped curve in the DBN activity index versus the pain rating, i.e., the NRS score, which provided the complete analgesic states (NRS = 0) for some subjects under aroma touch therapy at an appropriate DBN activity index. Such analgesic states were not so strongly correlated with emotional valence. In conclusion, aroma touch therapy may directly modulate DBN activity so that pain-induced outcomes are minimized.

In the present research, we have used the brain entrainment (BWE) treatment simultaneously recording time series data of R-R intervals of the ECG during rest condition. In detail, we have used alpha brain stimulation and we have found that it induces an enhancement of HRV, particularly in Total Variability and Vagal Modulation activities. The experiment has been performed by us on ten subjects with age ranging from 20 to 70 years old. The risk induced from low HRV is by this time well known in literature. Therefore, the obtained result promises to be of valuable interest not only in terms of the basic neurological investigation but also because it delineates new possibilities in terms of clinical application.

Methylphenidate is one of the most common pharmaceutical treatments for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). It is also gaining popularity as a cognitive enhancement and recreational substance. The current study assesses the long-term effects of methylphenidate (MPD) on the circadian rhythm activity pattern of adolescent and adult male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. The experiment lasted for 11 days of non-stop recording, the evaluation was divided into 4 phases: acute, induction, washout, and expression phases. Circadian rhythm changes in each phase were compared between the adolescent and adult rats using the following parameters MESOR (midline estimating statistic of rhythm) or average activity, amplitude (distance from MESOR to the peak activity), and acrophase (time at which peak amplitude occurs). Overall, more significant changes in circadian rhythm pattern among adult rats were observed as compared to adolescent rats. As the circadian rhythm governs the diurnal locomotor activity pattern, changes in the locomotor pattern induced by chronic treatment MPD indicate that the drug exerts a long-term effect on the circadian rhythm.

Two groups of parallelism in Martin Luther King's I Have a Dream are selected to analyze the rhythmic features in terms of prominence and duration. By applying Praat to label the sentences, some findings are as follows: In parallel sentences,the duration of each parallel structure is more or less equal due to the same number of prominence, although sentence length is different; the mean duration of syllables in long sentences is shorter as a result of vowel truncation.

Mating behavior and sex pheromone release rhythm of Holotrichia parallela was studied in this research. The maximum mating times were 3 for female and 4 for male. Average mating times were 1.06 for female and 0.91 for male. L-isoleucine methyl ester(LIME), a major component of pheromone, increased gradually from 14:00 and peaked at 19:00, then dropped sharply at 20:00 and remained low at 24:00.(R)-(-)-linalool(referred as linalool below) maintained similar levels throughout the study period. Calling and mating activity significantly decreased LIME titer, but not linalool. Analyses of 11 samples collected during calling days(20 d-70 d) revealed that LIME production was affected by female age. LIME titers increased from 20 d to 45 d, and decreased from 45 d to 70 d. While linalool titers remained at similar levels at all sampling dates. The highest ratio between LIME and linalool was 12 and the lowest was 4. Field tests confirmed that the most attractive ratios of LIME: linalool in early season(June 1 to 20) and late season(August 1 to 20) were 6:1, while in the most serious injury stage(June 20 to August 1) was 12:1. This is the first report about circadian rhythmicity of sex pheromone in Holotrichia parallela, which provides a basis for controlling it in field.

Application of a Dynamic Identity Authentication Model Based on an Improved Keystroke rhythm Algorithm

Keystroke rhythm identification, which extracts biometric characteristics through keyboards without addi-tional expensive devices, is a kind of biometric identification technology. The paper proposes a dynamic identity authentication model based on the improved keystroke rhythm algorithm in Rick Joyce model and implement this model in a mobile phone system. The experimental results show that comparing with the original model, the false alarm rate (FAR) of the improved model decreases a lot in the mobile phone system, and its growth of imposter pass rate (IPR) is slower than the Rick Joyce model’s. The improved model is more suitable for small memory systems, and it has better performance in security and dynamic adaptation. This improved model has good application value.

The rubber tree physiological and ecological process quantitatively described by using mathematical method is an important means to the analysis of rubber tree growth process and mechanism. The study on growth simulation model of rubber tree will lay the foundation for the application of rubber tree cultivation intelligent decision system. A Richards equation was formulated to describe the height and stem diameter growth dynamics of the annual rubber seedlings. An area correlation analysis was done according to the closeness of the observed parameters to the dynamic curve on the gray system composed of the seedling growth increment and the meteorological factors including aerial temperature, precipitation and solar radiation hours that influence upon the seedling growth. The results showed that rubber seedling response fitted the Richards equation quite well. The growth increment displayed a distinct alternation of 'slow—fast—slow— fast—slow' rhythm. The growth course of the seedlings might be partitioned into three periods of time by the sequential clustering analysis, namely pre-growing, fast-growing, late-growing stage. The tray correlation analysis revealed that air temperature had the most significant influence while precipitation had the least impact on height growth of the rubber seedlings. In conclusion, the air temperature had the most significant influence while solar radiation hours had the least impact on stem diameter growth of the rubber seedlings.

Objective: ADHD is characterized by the progressive development of, impulsiveness, attentional difficulties and sometimes also excessive hyperactivity. Main biological reason is a quantitative reduction of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the forebrain. A lack of dopamine is also typical for depressive disorders. Methods: Bright light therapy is proven to be effective in treating depression. Purpose of our study is to verify the therapeutic effectiveness of Bright light therapy in subjects affected by ADHD. Results: Results show a significant improvement which lasts for at least 4 weeks, which is superposed by regulation of the circadian rhythm. Initial decrease of especially morning saliva melatonin levels, due to regular sleep under in-patient conditions, is followed by symptom improvement and a raising evening melatonin level, due to activation during the day. This level decreases as soon as activation is ceased. Conclusion: Bright light therapy seems to be effective as add-on therapy for ADHD, but in fact, stabilization of the circadian rhythm is the most important therapeutic intervention, either for ADHD or for depression, as demonstrated in another study.
