A Comparative Study between Intravenous Fentanyl and Intravenous Lidocaine on Attenuation of Hemodynamic Pressor responses to Laryngoscopic Intubation: A Prospective Cohort Study, Ethiopia

Introduction: Laryngoscopic intubation is an insertion of endotracheal tube into the trachea for maintenance of airway during general anesthesia. Smooth intubation requires attenuation of pressor responses and maintenance of baseline hemodynamic stability. The primary outcome of this study is to compare intravenous fentanyl and lidocaine as an anesthetics adjuvant on attenuation of hemodynamic pressor responses to Laryngoscopic intubation in elective surgical adult patients. Methods: This prospective cohort study recruits 114 patients who underwent elective surgery under general anesthesia with laryngoscopy and endotracheal tube intubation. The study was conducted from January 1, 2018 to March 30, 2018. Systemic random sampling technique was used to select the study participants. Those patients that received intravenous fentanyl 2 micrograms per kilogram three minutes before intubation as an anesthetics adjuvant are considered as Fentanyl-group (group F). The Lidocaine-group (group L) was those patients who receive 2% intravenous lidocaine 1.5 milligrams per kilogram three minutes before intubation as anesthetics adjuvant. Hemodynamic parameters (heart rate and blood pressure) and other variables were documented starting from 3 minutes before intubation to 5 minutes after intubation. Results: The mean heart rate at first minute after intubation was significantly lower in fentanyl group (98.91 ± 15.6 beats per minute (bpm)) compared to lidocaine (107 ± 15.45 bpm), t (112) = 2.8, p = 0.006. Systolic blood pressure was also significantly lower in fentanyl group (141.9 ± 18.9 millimeters of mercury (mmHg)) compared to lidocaine (150 ± 18.098 mmHg), t (112) = 2.45, p = 0.016 at first minute after intubation. At third minute after intubation, heart rate was significantly lower in fentanyl group compared to lidocaine, t (112), p = 0.037. Technology Embedding of Classroom Teaching: Types, Issues and responses

As the new demands on curriculum teaching in the information age, the application of various technologies is profoundly affecting classroom teaching today. The technology-embedded classroom approach includes technology- assisted teaching, technology-integrated teaching, and technology-based teaching. There are still some deficiencies in the technological embedding of course teaching, the technological presentation of knowledge destroys the ecosystem of classroom, the technological controlled teaching hinders the development of teacher-student relationship, and the value orientation under technological efficiency neglects the integrated development of students. It is recommended to develop an ecological view of technological development, a pedagogical system focused on teacher-student interaction and an evaluation system with a multi-valued orientation.

Growth Medium and Soil Amendment Influence on Seedling Growth responses of African Star Apple (Chrysophyllum albidum)

African Star Apple (Chrysophyllum albidum) classified as a forest food treewith economic potentials requires domestication attention for improvedproductivity. A study conducted in Abeokuta, Nigeria in 2017 using oneyear old C. albidum seedlings determined the plant’s growth responseswhen cultivated using different growth medium and soil amendmentmethods. The 3 x 9 factorial experiment was arranged in a CompletelyRandomized Design (CRD) at three replications. Three textural soil types(sandy, loamy and clayey soils) were evaluated using nine soil amendmentmethods (5, 10, 15t/ha poultry manure (PM) and 150, 250 and 500kg/haNPK, and integrated amendment methods using 5t/ha PM+150kg/ha NPKand 10t/ha PM+150kg/ha NPK), and the un-amended plot as control. Theresults showed that plants in loamy and clayey soils had more leaves comparedto those in sandy soil only at 74WAS. C. albidum had most numerousleaves with 150 kg/ha, taller plant and wider canopy with 250 kg/ha, andthicker girth with all NPK rates compared to control, manure rates and integratedfertilizers. The plants with loamy soil had highest CPC, Ash C, FC,starch and sugar. Plants with inorganic fertilizers and integrated fertilizershad higher FW and DW compared to manure rates. The 5 t/ha manure rateand the 250 kg/ha NPK produced plants with high sugar content and werelowest in starch content compared to other applied rates. In conclusion, *** from juvenile to vegetative stage with proper management can begrown on the different soil types while the 150 kg/ha NPK fertilizer rateappeared as optimum for the plant growth.

Generating-sensation and propagating-myoelectrical responses along the meridian

The meridian phenomena are closely associated with the neuro-muscular function. Our experiments show that meridian phenomenon, acupoint stimulation-induced generating-sensations along meridians(GSM), does exist in some volunteers, and the subjects can describe the characteristics of the feelings and the route of GSM. Simultaneously, GSM is often accompanied with progressive myoelectric activity along the meridian which is able to be recorded objectively. Brachial plexus anesthesia and regional neuro-muscular block may arrest these responses while the neuro-muscular blocking agent may stop neuromuscular transmission at the motor end-plate rather than check GSM. The facts reveal that GSM probably depends on muscular activity and is involved in the secondary neuro-muscular excitation propagating along the longitudinal axis of muscles. These findings suggest that the myoelectric activities constitute the foundation of secondarily generating-sensation propagating along the longitudinal orientation of limbs(muscles), or along the meridian.

Analysis of Rainfall Variables Trends and Potential Vegetation responses in Sinaloa, México

Based on monthly data from 55 meteorological stations from the North Pacific Watershed, seven annual rainfall trends were estimated and analyzed using non-parametric tests. The estimated slopes were analyzed in a geographic context to determine a potential spatial arrangement. Finally a brief analysis of the potential vegetation response from the different physiographic regions and the implications in the productive analysis is discussed. The findings indicated divergent trends in all the proposed variables, in general increasing and drier trends were found. Latitude was the most relevant factor regarding trend behavior in geographic terms. The lack of awareness and apathy from the authorities in the region were found, plus the regional vulnerability may originate notorious and serious consequences if the proper measures are not taken into account.

Living in a Bottomless Pit: Households’ responses to Land Subsidence, an Example from Indonesia

Land subsidence has severe physical and economic implications for both areas and people. Numerous scholars have shown that land subsidence has had massive impacts at global, national and regional levels, and that the impacts were usually responded to by the government. However, little attention has been paid to what land subsidence means to people’s daily lives and how much it costs them. To fill that gap, this article draws on empirical research carried out in three areas in Indonesia to provide a better understanding of what land subsidence means to households, and how they respond to the consequences and how much it costs them to do so. An analysis of a survey of 330 households shows that they have been suffering from various severities of impacts of land subsidence for an extended period. Whereas some of the households respond to the impacts by making small preparations or adapting to the damages, others can do nothing due to a lack of money and their continuously declining earning capacity. Thus, the affected households are effectively throwing money into a bottomless pit. We argue that these households must escape the vicious circle caused by land subsidence by increasing their income capacity or even abandoning the affected areas.

Theoretical Solutions of Dynamic responses of Cancellous Bone

Human bone may be damaged by impact in the cases of traffic accidents and ship impact. The impact responses of cancellous bone were analyzed based on the two-phase media theory. A direct analytical method is introduced for solving this type of problems. First, flow function and potential function were introduced to decouple the controlling equations. Then direction solving method was used to obtain the solution. The solution is determined by the parameters of a (related with wave speed) and b (related with damping), as well as the boundary conditions. These two parameters a and b determine the propagation speed of the responses along the bone and the attenuation rate. It is shown that the responses: deformation, stress and pressure of the corpus medullae caused by loading, propagate toward the other end when the impact is acted on one end of the bone. The responses are discontinuous during propagate. The discontinuous surface moves with a constant speed. The responses at the cross section increase gradually from the bottom to the top because of the distribution of the loading at the boundary. The solutions can be used as the basis for certification of numerical simulation as well as the design of impact prevention of bone.

New Progress regarding the Use of Lactic Acid Bacteria as Live Delivery Vectors, Treatment of Diseases and Induction of Immune responses in Different Host Species Focusing on <i>Lactobacillus</i>Species

Lactobacillus species are non-spore-forming, gram-positive bacteria and lactic acid producing bacteria (LAPB) that naturally inhabit the human and animal gastrointestinal and mouth organs. The aim of this review was to evaluate the new progress regarding the use of Lactobacillus species as live delivery vectors, prevention, and treatment of pathogenic and metabolic diseases. Lactobacillus strains of probiotics have been extensively studied and have confirmed that they can absolutely improve performance as live delivery vectors, a treatment option of various diseases such as: Hemorrhagic cecal coccidiosis in young poultry, hypertension, avian flu, obesity, diabetes, Derzsy’s disease or parvovirus infection, human immunodeficiency virus infections, irritable bowel syndrome, gastrointestinal disorders, Fungal infections, vaginal eubiosis, fish and shellfish species diseases. We give you an idea about that Lactobacillus species have been proficient in preventing and treating both disorders in animal models and some are used for clinical trials. We present the most current studies on the use of Lactobacillus strains that had an impact on an effective immune response to a specific antigen because a variety of antigens have been expressed. Therefore Lactobacillus strains can be considered as good candidates because of its potential for diseases treatment and vaccine development as heterologous protein secretion to date.

Growth responses of Some Bacterial Isolates to Some Environmental Parameters

This study was carried out to investigate the antimicrobial activities of bacterial isolates of maize against plant pathogens as well as their growth responses to some environmental parameters. Twenty four bacterial isolates were obtained from maize plants collected from the Department of Biological Sciences, AfeBabalola University, Ado-Ekiti. The isolates were characterized by their biochemical and physiological characteristics and were identified as Kurthiazopfu, Morganellamorganic, Rhodococcusequi, Bacillus subtilis, Catabaterhongkongensis, Brevibacteriumotitidis, Lactobacillus coleohominis, Staphylococcus aureus, Propionibacterium acnes among others. Their responses to different NaCl concentrations, sugars, temperature as well as antibiotics were determined. Most of the isolates were able to withstand various environmental parameters in which they were subjected to. Also, eight isolates were able to ferment sucrose. The bacterial isolates showed a degree of resistance to the antibiotics tested. There was a high prevalence of multidrug resistant bacteria showing resistance to 3 - 8 drugs. The antagonistic effect of the bacterial isolates against selected fungi was determined. None of the isolates showed antagonistic potential against the fungal pathogens. However, the supposed antagonistic bacterial species can be genetically modified to produce secondary metabolites that will result in biocontrol.
