The use of reluctance networks has been a conventional practice to analyze transformer structures. Basic transformer structures can be well analyzed by using the magnetic-electric analogues discovered by Heaviside in the 19th century. However, as power transformer structures are getting more complex today, it has been recognized that changing transformer structures cannot be accurately analyzed using the current reluctance network methods. This paper presents a novel method in which the magnetic reluctance network or arbitrary complexity and the surrounding electrical networks can be analyzed as a single network. The method presented provides a straightforward mapping table for systematically linking the electric lumped elements to magnetic circuit elements. The methodology is validated by analyzing several practical transformer structures. The proposed method allows the analysis of coupled inductor of any complexity, linear or non-linear.

reluctance linear actuator, which has a unique property of small volume, low current and can produce great force, is a very promising actuator for the fine stage of the next-generation lithographic scanner. But the strong nonlinearities including the hysteresis, between the current and output force limits the reluctance linear actuator applications in nanometer positioning. In this paper, a new nonlinear control method is proposed for the stage having paired reluctance linear actuator with hysteresis using the direct adaptive neural network, which is used as a learning machine of nonlinearity. The feature of this method lies in that the nonlinear compensator in conventional methods, which computed the current reference from that of the input and output force is not used. This naturally overcomes the robustness issue with respect to parameter uncertainty. Simulation results show that the proposed method is effective in overcoming the nonlinearity between the input current and output force and promising in precision stage control.

Because its high efficiency, its simple stator and rotor structures, the low cost and high reliability, speed operation combined with robust and low cost construction, the switched reluctance machines have represented. In recent years, an interesting alternative to other machine types has been chosen for traction applications especially starter-generator. Their rotors do not generate significant heat, resulting in easy cooling. Their unidirectional flux and current may generate lower core losses and require a simple converter design. Moreover, the switched reluctance machines are known for their high reliability and capability of operating in four quadrants for a variable speed drive. Despite those merits, switched reluctance machine has not been extensively used until recently because of its problems of torque ripples and noise. Additionally, researchers have faced many difficulties to build a SRM model because it is inherently multivariable. It has strong coupling and especially a high nonlinearity. In this paper, we deal with many modeling methods. Numerical, analytical and intelligent approaches are studied. The important aim in this research is to use static results from FEMM simulation as flux-linkage, co-energy, static torque to form a dynamic model of a switched reluctance machine used next as a starter-generator of a hybrid vehicle.

The switched reluctance motor is appreciated in variable speed drives through his simplicity of design, his low cost, his high reliability and high ability to regulate which allow him to compete with the other common types of electric drives. The mathematical modelling of switched reluctance motors (SRM) allows his study in the areas of research and conception. In this paper, we present the developing of a methodology using the combined model of switched reluctance motor drive bases in standard equations of electrical machines with the field theory analysis of magnetic circuit. Then, the elaboration of mathematical models for switching reluctance motor (SRM) proposes his application based on a similarity with series DC motor to simplify the conception of control of electrical drives systems [1] with Closed Loop Control.

Different power electronic converter topologies are introduced in this paper for both Conventional Switched reluctance Machine (CSRM) and Toroidal Switched reluctance Machine (TSRM) drive systems. Their commutation, switch and diode currents, power losses, and efficiencies under over modulation operation are analyzed and compared for converter characteristics study, performance evaluation and topology selection for CSRM and TSRM drive systems. The switch and diode silicon volumes required for each CSRM and TSRM drives are also compared according to their corresponding currents at the equivalent machine torque versus speed operating points.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the potential of switched reluctance generator (SRG) in wind energy application. The machine comprises of switched reluctance generator, power converter and controller. In this paper the main ele-ments that form the generator system is discussed. It also highlights the common type of converter and structure used for SRG in wind energy application and types of control strategy available. Using power converter for switching the generator can operate over a wide speed range. Its applications in high speed area such as starter/generator for air-craft and gas turbine has been established, however the low/medium speed operation is still at an early stage of re-search. In order to subject the machine to various parameters, offline modeling is being investigated to produce the best optimum design.

This paper provides a comprehensive review of the recent development on the switched reluctance machine operating in generating mode in both the low and high speed operations. The machine consists of a salient rotor and stator poles and controlled via switching of the power electronic devices. There is a steady development of the machine operating in the motoring mode;however, its generating operation is still under study. This paper gives an overview of the machine, followed by the principle of operation in generating mode and briefly discusses the structure and types of control methods which involve the switched reluctance generator (SRG). Due to its geometry simplicity and advantages such as robust, ability to operate over a wide speed range and absence of permanent magnet and windings on the rotor, the SRG promises to be a good candidate for variable speed application.

This research work seeks to make renewable energy more reliable, cost effective, and accessible by exploring a different energy combination system to that currently applied to wind and hydro power. Instead of the usual electrical combination of wind and hydro generators, this work involved combining a water and wind turbine mechanically, before driving an electrical generator. This new combination system was modeled and optimized in MATLAB, using a direct combination system commonly found in multi-engine helicopters. The system was found to operate satisfactorily, however it is mechanically more complex than current electrical combining systems. Research was undertaken regarding wind and water resource availability, and the turbines were chosen with these taken into consideration. Various combination systems were explored, including torque and speed split mechanical combinations, conventional electrical combination, and using a modified switched reluctance generator as a method of electro-mechanical combination. The generator selected for this work is a three phase 12/8 Switched reluctance (SR) machine. This paper presents a voltage controller for a 12/8 switched reluctance generator (SRG). SR machines have a robust with simple structure because they have no windings or permanent magnets on the rotor, so they are capable of working at high speed application and at rough condition. However, due to nonlinear nature, doubly salient poles, time variant parameters, and non-ideal current waveform, The SRG output voltage inherently contains ripples. The proposed voltage controller is based on fuzzy logic that is very efficient over uncertainty and parameter variations. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified by comparing the obtained result with that of a PI-controller.
