Attitudes, knowledge levels and behaviors of Islamic religious officials about organ donation in Turkey: National survey study

BACKGROUND The most important factors affecting the decision of organ donation are socioeconomic,educational,cultural,and religious factors.AIM To evaluate Islamic religious officials’attitudes and behaviors toward and level of knowledge on organ donation and transplantation.METHODS This study surveyed 2350 Islamic religious officials in Turkey.To ensure a representative sample,we used and modified the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics.Based on the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics-II,Turkey was divided into 26 regions.The number of Islamic religious officials in each city and town in each of the 26 regions was proportionate to the population.A stratified sampling method based on demographic factors,such as age,marital status,and educational level,was used.Data were collected by PRP Research and Consultancy Company using computer-assisted personal interviewing.RESULTS Of the 2350 religious officials surveyed,59.9%were in the age group of 35-54 years;84.7%had either a bachelor’s or a master’s degree;99.7%never donated an organ;and 75.4%were not considering donating in the future.About 22%of the religious officials said religious belief was their reason for not donating;45.3%did not indicate any reason.Although 41.5%of participants considered cadaveric organ donation as the best source of organ transplantation,36.3%deemed living donor transplantation as the best option.Meanwhile,52.9%of participants considered donating an organ from a brain dead relative in case they were asked for permission;80.1%considered donating to a relative,if necessary;81.6%considered undergoing organ transplantation,if necessary.About 83.7%of participants deemed organ donation as a proper human behavior;60.5%believed that it is allowed by Islam;55%said they preach for organ donation at their mosque;and 41.1%said their views of organ donation were influenced by their leaders in society.CONCLUSION religious officials are unsure whether or not organ donation is respectful of their religious belief,but they consid

From a theological ethical moral view,it seems obvious that adequate religious moral education is a sine qua non for authentic human development necessary for a solid nation-building.Although,state and religion are separated from each other,this should not imply a total dichotomy of religious influence on socio-political matters.A pure secularised world that has nothing to do with God,a society devoid of any form of religious affiliation,a society purely human having neither to do with God nor the spirits,such a society seems inconceivable and unrealistic and may not even be human.Experience shows that to be human demands some form of acknowledgment of a superior being,whose influence may inform one’s basic choices.The nature of the human person shows that there is nothing of the material that does not take its bearing from the religious-spiritual disposition of the person.Experience also confirms that a good moral life or virtuous life draws faith.St James the apostle implies this,when he says faith without good works or good moral life is dead(James 2:18).This can also be applicable to Abraham who is judged righteous because of his faith in God,i.e.,because he obeyed God’s command.Without faith,it is impossible to do God’s will,i.***.live a good moral life(Hebr 11:6).On the other hand,there are many forms of development,for instance:economic development,agricultural development,scientific,rural or urban development,which narrow into the human development that seems to determine their level.However,to have a solid sustainable development demands an adequate religious-moral education of the people,which functions both in the informal and formal forms of education.In as much as religious moral education gives solid grounding for adequate formation of the human person,the end result,and the development of the human person should at the same time reflect the national development.Development thus understood is holistic embracing the good of the individual as well as the nation.This article argues that authentic human d

Human body-related vocabulary is rich in cultural implications.At the same time,the use of metaphorical meanings is a common phenomenon when these words are combined with other vocabulary.In the Mongolian Dictionary,seven meanings of AM(mouth)are elucidated,along with 156 associated phrases.Utilizing the approach of cognitive linguistics,this article delves deeply into the analysis of AM(mouth).Firstly,the semantics are summarized into 9 categories,encompassing 6 semantic scopes.Secondly,it is believed that sensory basis and analogical basis form the foundation for the formation of metaphorical meanings in human body-related vocabulary AM(mouth).Finally,through an examination of religious beliefs,nomadic customs,and daily life practices,the cultural implications of AM(mouth)are revealed.

Summary What is already known about this topic?Serious mental disorders(SMD)are significant risk factors for suicide,and individuals with SMD are crucial target populations for suicide prevention efforts.While numerous studies have examined the prevalence of suicidal behaviors among psychiatric inpatients,fewer reports have addressed the occurrence of such behaviors in community-based patients.What is added by this report?The prevalence of suicidal ideation,planning,and attempts among community-dwelling individuals with SMD was found to be 36.8%,17.9%,and 15.0%,respectively.A significant association was observed between the severity of psychiatric symptoms and the presence of suicidal behaviors.Notably,patients within the 55–59 age range demonstrated the highest rates of both suicidal planning and attempts.What are the implications for public health practice?Particular attention to the risk of suicide is crucial,especially for community-dwelling individuals with SMD of middle age,those with religious beliefs,living alone,and exhibiting more severe depressive and psychiatric symptoms.

《黄帝阴符经》或《阴符经》是道教传统中一部极为主要的文本。虽然文本作者不详,而且篇幅短小、语义晦涩,但自唐代以来一直被当作奇书,引发多种注释与解读:内丹修炼抑或兵家谋略。本文以(唐)李荃注释本为主,阐述《阴符经》有关阴阳、生杀、机时、五贼、三盗等所涵盖的道家/道教的本体-宇宙观,并以此论述就有关暴力与战争议题所展示的道教伦理观。笔者认为,《阴符经》在重玄思辨中,强调道教"治身治国"的理念,其暗含的"义战"思想亦带有一定的黄老印记。
