Efficient and low-cost recycling of spent lithium iron phosphate(LiFePO_(4),LFP)batteries has become an inevitable trend.In this study,an integrated closed-loop recycling strategy including isomorphic substitution leaching and solvent extraction process for spent LFP was proposed.An inexpensive FeCl_(3)was used as leaching agent to directly substitute Fe^(2+)from LFP.99%of Li can be rapidly leached in just 30 min,accompanied by 98%of FePO_(4)precipitated in lixivium.The tri-n-butyl phosphate(TBP)-sulfonated kerosene(SK)system was applied to extract Li from lixivium through a twelve-stage countercurrent process containing synchronous extraction and stepwise stripping of Li^(+)and Fe^(3+).80.81%of Li can be selectively enriched in stripping liquor containing 3.059 mol·L^(-1)of Li^(+)under optimal conditions.And the Fe stripping liquor was recovered for LFP re-leaching,of which,Fe^(2+)was oxidized to Fe^(3+)by appropriate H_(2)O_(2).Raffinate and lixivium were concentrated and entered into extraction process to accomplished closeloop recycling process.Overall,the results suggest that more than 99%of Li was recovered.FeCl_(3)holding in solution was directly regenerated without any pollutant emission.The sustainable mothed would be an alternative candidate for total element recycling of spent LFP batteries with industrial potential.

recovery of vanadium from vanadium slag by composite additive roasting-acid leaching process

To minimize the vanadium content in the vanadium extraction tailings, composite additive roasting with (CaO + MgO) and subsequent acid leaching process was carried out dealing with vanadium-bearing converter slag. The effect of additive with different MgO/(CaO + MgO) molar ratios on the roasting and leaching behaviours of vanadium slag was investigated, and the optimum process conditions were obtained. The results show that in the roasting experiment, under the conditions of roasting temperature of 850 ℃ and roasting time of 2 h, the main kinds of vanadate transformed from Ca_(2)V_(2)O_(7) to Ca_(5)Mg_(4)V_(6)O_(2)4 and then to Mg_(2)V_(2)O_(7) with the increase in the MgO/(CaO + MgO) molar ratio. In the leaching experiment, under the conditions of particle size less than 75 μm, leaching temperature of 50 ℃, pH of 2.5, liquid–solid ratio of 20:1, and MgO/(CaO + MgO) molar ratio of 1:3, the leaching efficiency of vanadium is increased by about 5%, but the substitution of MgO for most or all of CaO will significantly reduce the leaching efficiency of vanadium. Furthermore, the leaching efficiency of impurities (P and Cr) can also be decreased by a composite addictive (CaO + MgO) roasting process. The X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the original vanadium slag and solid products of both roasting and leaching processes were also evaluated.

Metagenomics reveals the microbial community and functional metabolism variation in the partial nitritation-anammox process:From collapse to recovery

Mainstream partial nitritation-anammox(PNA)process easily suffers from performance instability and even reactor collapse in application.Thus,it is of great significance to unveil the characteristic of performance recovery,understand the intrinsic mechanism and then propose operational strategy.In this study,we combined long-term reactor operation,batch tests,and metagenomics to reveal the succession of microbial community and functional metabolism variation from system collapse to recovery.Proper aeration control(0.10-0.25mg O_(2)/L)was critical for performance recovery.It was also found that Candidatus Brocadia became the dominant flora and its abundance increased from 3.5%to 11.0%.Significant enhancements in carbon metabolism and phospholipid biosynthesis were observed during system recovery,and the genes abundance related to signal transduction was dramatically increased.The up-regulation of sdh and suc genes showed the processes of succinate dehydrogenation and succinyl-CoA synthesis might stimulate the production of amino acids and the synthesis of proteins,thereby possibly improving the activity and abundance of AnAOB,which was conducive to the performance recovery.Moreover,the increase in abundance of hzs and hdh genes suggested the enhancement of the anammox process.Changes in the abundance of key genes involved in nitrogen metabolism indicated that nitrogen removal pathway was more diverse after system recovery.The achievement of performance recovery was driven by anammox,nitrification and denitrification coupled with dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium.These results provide deeper insights into the recovery mechanism of PNA system and also provide a potential regulation strategy for the stable operation of the mainstream PNA process.

Selective recovery of Cu(II) from strongly acidic wastewater by zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate: Affecting factors, efficiency and mechanism

The selective recovery of copper from strongly acidic wastewater containing mixed metal ions remains a significant challenge.In this study,a novel reagent zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate(Zn(DMDC)_(2))was developed for the selective removal of Cu(II).The removal efficiency of Cu(II)reached 99.6%after 120 min reaction at 30°C when the mole ratio Zn(DMDC)_(2)/Cu(II)was 1:1.The mechanism investigation indicates that the Cu(DMDC)_(2) products formed as a result of the displacement of Zn(II)from the added Zn(DMDC)_(2) by Cu(II)in wastewater,due to the formation of stronger coordination bonds between Cu(II)and the dithiocarbamate groups of Zn(DMDC)_(2).Subsequently,we put forward an innovative process of resource recovery for strongly acidicwastewater.Firstly,the selective removal of Cu(II)fromactualwastewater using Zn(DMDC)_(2),with a removal efficiency of 99.7%.Secondly,high-value CuO was recovered by calcining the Cu(DMDC)_(2) at 800°C,with a copper recovery efficiency of 98.3%.Moreover,the residual As(III)and Cd(II)were removed by introducing H_(2)S gas,and the purified acidic wastewater was used to dissolve ZnO for preparation of valuable ZnSO_(4)·H_(2)O.The total economic benefit of resource recovery is estimated to be 11.54$/m^(3).Accordingly,this study provides a new route for the resource recovery of the treatment of copper-containing acidic wastewater.

recovery of threatened plant species and their habitats in the biodiversity hotspot of the Southwest Australian Floristic Region

The Southwest Australian Floristic Region(SWAFR) is a global biodiversity hotspot with high plant diversity and endemism and a broad range of threatening processes. An outcome of this is a high proportion of rare and threatened plant species. Ongoing discovery and taxonomic description of new species, many of which are rare, increases the challenges for recovery of threatened species and prioritisation of conservation actions. Current conservation of this diverse flora is based on integrated and scientific evidence-based management. Here we present an overview of current approaches to the conservation of threatened flora in the SWAFR with a focus on active management through recovery and restoration that is integrated with targeted research. Key threats include disease, fragmentation, invasive weeds, altered fire regimes, grazing, altered hydro-ecology and climate change. We highlight the integrated approach to management of threats and recovery of species with four case studies of threatened flora recovery projects that illustrate the breadth of interventions ranging from In situ management to conservation reintroductions and restoration of threatened species habitats. Our review and case studies emphasise that despite the scale of the challenge, a scientific understanding of threats and their impacts enables effective conservation actions to arrest decline and enhance recovery of threatened species and habitats.

Abandonment and recovery Operation of Steel Lazy-Wave Riser in Deepwater by Controlled Vessel and Cable Velocity Rate

Evaluation of abandonment and recovery operation of steel lazy-wave riser in deepwater is presented in this paper.The calculation procedure includes two single continuous SLWR and cable segments, which are coupled together to form the overall mathematical model. Then the equilibrium equations of SLWR and cable are established based on minimum total potential energy principle. The coupled equations are discretized by the finite difference method and solved by Newton-Raphson technique in an iterative manner. The present method is validated by well-established commercial code OrcaFlex. recovery methods by considering different ratios of vessel’s moving velocity to cable’s recovery velocity are evaluated to optimize the abandonment and recovery operation. In order to keep the tension more stable during the recovery process, the rate ratio before leaving the seabed is increased, and the rate ratio after leaving the seabed is reduced.

Rare earths (REs) and Co are critical strategic resources.Their recovery is crucial for ensuring that their supplies are adequate and for reducing environmental pollution.End-of-life NdFeB magnets are important secondary RE sources.The separation of Dy,Nd,and Co from NdFeB leachate using a relatively new extractant (2,3-dimethylbutyl)(2,4,4’-trimethylpentyl)phosphinic acid (INET-3),was investigated in this study.The separation parameters,such as equilibrium pH,phase ratio,INET-3 concentration,and number of counter-current extraction stages,were optimised.The results show that INET-3 can separate Dy,Nd,and Co efficiently.For the preferential extraction of Dy from synthetic iron-free NdFeB leachate,the optimum equilibrium pH is 2.60.Under this condition,separation of Dy from the leachate requires four counter-current extraction stages at A/O (volume ratio of aqueous to organic)=1:2.This is demonstrated by a simulated four-stage counter-current extraction process.At equilibrium pH=2.52and A/O=1:2,98%of Dy is recovered with 95%purity.As to the subsequent separation of Nd from the leachate,nearly 100%is recovered with 99%purity through a simulated three-stage counter-current extraction process at equilibrium pH=5.33 and A/O=1:1.Approximately 95%of Co remains in the raffinate with 99.98%purity.

Semaphorin7A:its role in the control of serotonergic circuits and functional recovery following spinal cord injury

Serotonin is a monoamine neurotransmitter synthetized in various populations of brainstem neurons.In the spinal cord,descending serotonergic projections regulate postural muscle tone,locomotion and rhythm and coordination of movements via the Central Pattern Generator.Following a spinal cord injury,serotonergic projections to the lumbar spinal cord,where the Central Pattern Generators are located,are interrupted resulting in devastating locomotor impairments and changes in the expression and activation of serotonin and its spinal receptors.The molecular cues that control the precise patterning and targeting of serotonergic inputs onto Central Pattern Generator networks in healthy animals or after injury are still unknown.In our recent research work,we have been particularly interested in Semaphorin7A,which belongs to the Semaphorins family involved in guiding growing axons and controlling plasticity of synaptic connections.In this review,we discuss the role of Semaphorin7A signaling as an important molecular actor that instructs the patterning of serotonin inputs to spinal Central Pattern Generator networks.We show that Semaphorin7A controls the wiring of descending serotonin axons in the spinal cord.Our results reveal that mistargetting of serotonin fibers in the spinal cord is compensated in healthy uninjured Semaphorin7A deficient mice so that their gross locomotion proceeds accurately.We also demonstrate that when the system is challenged with a spinal lesion,the pattern of post-injury serotonin expression is significantly altered in Semaphorin7A deficient mice with specific ectopic targeting of serotonin fibers in the lumbar spinal cord.Compensatory mechanisms in place in uninjured Semaphorin7A deficient mice are lost and injured Semaphorin7A deficient mice exhibit a worsening of their post-injury locomotor abilities.Our findings identify Semaphorin7A as a critical determinant of serotonergic circuit formation in healthy or spinal cord injured mice.

Stroke recovery enhancing therapies:lessons from recent clinical trials

Poststroke recovery processes include restoration or compensation of function,respectively functions initially lost or new functions acquired after an injury.Therapeutic interventions can enhance these processes and/or reduce processes impeding regeneration.Numerous experimental studies suggest great opportunities for such treatments,but the results from recent large clinical trials using neuromodulators such as dopamine and fluoxetine are disappointing.The reasons for this are manifold affecting forward translation of results from animals models into the human situation.This"translational road block"is defined by differences between animals and humans with regard to the genetic and epigenetic background,size and anatomy of the brain,cerebral vascular anatomy,immune system,as well as clinical function and behavior.Backward blockade includes the incompatible adaption of targets and outcomes in clinical trials with regard to prior preclinical findings.For example,the design of clinical recovery trials varies widely and was characterized by the selection of different clinical endpoints,the inclusion a broad spectrum of stroke subtypes and clinical syndromes as well as different time windows for treatment initiation after infarct onset.This review will discuss these aspects based on the results of the recent stroke recovery trials with the goal to contribute to the currently biggest unmet need in stroke research-the development of a recovery enhancing therapy that improves the functional outcome of a chronic stroke patient.

DC Current Order Optimization Based Strategy for recovery Performance Improvement of LCC-HVDC Transmission Systems

For the safe and fast recovery of line commutated converter based high-voltage direct current(LCC-HVDC)transmission systems after faults,a DC current order optimization based strategy is proposed.Considering the constraint of electric and control quantities,the DC current order with the maximum active power transfer is calculated by Thevenin equivalent parameters(TEPs)and quasi-state equations of LCC-HVDC transmission systems.Meanwhile,to mitigate the subsequent commutation failures(SCFs)that may come with the fault recovery process,the maximum DC current order that avoids SCFs is calculated through imaginary commutation process.Finally,the minimum value of the two DC current orders is sent to the control system.Simulation results based on PSCAD/EMTDC show that the proposed strategy mitigates SCFs effectively and exhibits good performance in recovery.
