This paper deals with subspace detection for rangespread target in non-homogeneous clutter with unknown covariance matrix where structured interference is presented in the received data.Through exploiting the persymmetry of the clutter covariance matrix,we propose two adaptive target detectors,which are referred to as persymmetric subspace Rao to suppress interference and persymmetric subspace Wald to suppress interference("PS-Rao-I"and"PS-Wald-I"),respectively.The persymmetry-based design brings in the advantage of easy implementation for small training sample support.The signal flow analysis of the two detectors shows that the PS-Rao-I rejects interference and integrates signals successively through separated matrix projection,while the PS-Wald-I jointly achieves interference elimination and signal combination via oblique projection.In addition,both detectors are shown to be constant false alarm rate detectors,significantly improving the detection performance with other competing detectors under the condition of limited training.

A range-spread target(RST)detector is proposed for wideband radar.The detector,referred to as a conjugate multiplication and block thresholding(CMBT)detector,is simple for implementation in existing radar systems and has the advantage of minor calculation.First,the target energy of adjacent stretched echoes is coherently accumulated via conjugate multiplication and Fourier transform operations.It is noted that conjugate multiplication of two complex Gaussian distributed noise is complex double Gaussian distributed,leading to a signal to noise ratio(SNR)loss.Subsequently,considering the sparsity and clustering characteristics of the conjugate multiplication amplitude spectrum(CMAS),the block thresholding method is adopted for denoising,where the noise and cross-terms are adaptively smoothed,and the signal terms can be basically preserved.Finally,numerical simulation results for both synthetic and real radar data validate the effectiveness of the proposed detector,comparing with the conventional integration detector(ID),the spatial scattering density(SSD)detector,and waveform entropy(WE)and waveform contrast(WC)based detectors.

The problem of two order statistics detection schemes for the detection of a spatially distributed target in white Gaussian noise are studied.When the number of strong scattering cells is known,we first show an optimal detector,which requires many processing channels.The structure of such optimal detector is complex.Therefore,a simpler quasi-optimal detector is then introduced.The quasi-optimal detector,called the strong scattering cells’ number dependent order statistics（SND-OS） detector,takes the form of an average of maximum strong scattering cells with a known number.If the number of strong scattering cells is unknown in real situation,the multi-channel order statistics（MC-OS） detector is used.In each channel,a various number of maximums scattered from target are averaged.Then,the false alarm probability analysis and thresholds sets for each channel are given,following the detection results presented by means of Monte Carlo simulation strategy based on simulated target model and three measured targets.In particular,the theoretical analysis and simulation results highlight that the MC-OS detector can efficiently detect range-spread targets in white Gaussian noise.

The high resolution radar target detection is addressed in the non-Gaussian clutter. An adaptive detector is derived for range-spread target based on a novel covariance matrix estimator. It is proved that the new detector is constant false alarm rate （CFAR） to both of the clutter covariance matrix structure and power level theoretically for match cases. The simulation results show that the new detector is almost CFAR for mismatch cases, and it outperforms the existing adaptive detector based on the sample covariance matrix. It also shows that the detection performance improves, as the number of pulses, the number of secondary data or the clutter spike increases. In addition, the derived detector is robust to different subsets, estimated clutter group sizes and correlations of clutter. Importantly, the number of iterations for practical application is just one.

Based on the target scatterer density, the range-spread target detection of high-resolution radar is addressed in additive non-Gaussian clutter, which is modeled as a spherically invariant random vector. Firstly, for sparse scatterer density, the detection of target scatterer in each range cell is derived, and then an M/K detector is proposed to detect the whole range-spread target. Se- condly, an integrating detector is devised to detect a range-spread target with dense scatterer density. Finally, to make the best of the advantages of M/K detector and integrating detector, a robust detector based on scatterer density （DBSD） is designed, which can reduce the probable collapsing loss or quantization error ef- fectively. Moreover, the density decision factor of DBSD is also determined. The formula of the false alarm probability is derived for DBSD. It is proved that the DBSD ensures a constant false alarm rate property. Furthermore, the computational results indi- cate that the DBSD is robust to different clutter one-lag correlations and target scatterer densities. It is also shown that the DBSD out- performs the existing scatterer-density-dependent detector.
