Movements and home range of a common species of tree-shrew,Tupaia glis,surrounding houses of otoacariasis cases in Kuantan,Pahang,Malaysia

Objective:To document movement patterns,home range,nesting behaviour and social organization of 5 individuals(3 males and 2 females) of a common species of tree-shrew,Tupaia glis(T.glis) surrounding houses of otoacariasis cases.Methods:Each shrew was fitted with a transmitter chip radio-collar which operates between the frequencies of 154.13 MHz to 154.21 MHz.Each transmitter was then tracked with a Portable Telemetry Receiver(Sirtrack,New Zealand) fitted with a 3-element Yagi antenna.Collared shrews were located using standard methods of ground-based triangulation.Each location was taken from at least 2 directional fixes and a minimum of 3 compass bearings.Fixes were taken hourly for each collared individual from the time of emergence from nest(beginning of activity) till time of entry into the nest(end of activity) every day for 5 to 7 continuous days.Three series of radio telemetry observations were carried out.The bearings,time and positions of an observer were recorded and later plotted on a graph paper in order to derive coordinates of the collared animal.[These coordinates then analyzed using Ecological Software Solutions(Biotas Version 1.03)].Results:Nests were found in a jack fruit tree,long bushes,and 2 houses.Daily telemetry detections demonstrated 2 individuals of different sex having nests(or a nest) in the same house.All shrews emerged from and returned to their nests between 0601 to 0659 hours and 1901 to 1959 hours,respectively. Both the time of exit from and entry into nest were the same between sexes(P>0.05).Their average total active period was 4.90 to 7.00 hours with a total daily travel distant of 270 m to 382 m.A male and a female shrew can move as far as 3 285 m and 4 591 m,respectively.Active movements of T.glis were during daytime.They regularly entered some houses in the area during day and night except for one individual which visited during daytime only.The sizes of home range and core area for the shrews were 2.00-3.40 ha and 0.05-0.42 ha,respectively.Generally, the mean home range

This paper is concerned with the problem of the best restricted range approximations of complex-valued continuous functions. Several properties for the approximating set PΩ such that the classical characterization results and/or the uniqueness results of the best approximations hold are introduced. Under the very mild conditions, we prove that these properties are equivalent that P is a Haar subspce.

Research of Velocity Compensation Method Based on range Profile Feature

In this paper,based on the feature of high resolution one-dimensional range profile,two effective motion compensation methods are presented. Firstly,the processing method of stepped-frequency and the response of target moving to range profile are analyzed. Secondly,the function of range profile entropy and range profile contrast are presented for velocity compensation,and then the theory analysis,math model,and solution method are analyzed in detail. Finally,several simulation experiments are designed to prove the accuracy and effectiveness of these two methods. From the final theory analysis and simulation experiments,the conclusion can be drawn that these two methods are effective,which can get much higher velocity estimation accuracy,well real-time and easy to be used in project application. After motion compens-ation,the high resolution one-dimensional range profile will be much better than that used to be,and is used for the detection, recognition and ranging of moving targets.

range AMBIGUITY DISTRIBUTION CHARACTERISTIC OF SPACEBORNE SAR AND ITS DESIGN CONSIDERATION

A new approach is proposed which can satisfy the range ambiguity requirement while keep the antenna width not to be enlarged and get the high quality image also. Here the chirp slope of the transmitted linear frequency modulated pulses is reversed alternately. Therefore, during the range compression significant portion of the ambiguous return which is due to the mismatching with the signal reference function is suppressed. The suggested method provides significant improvement in range ambiguity ratio and can be utilized in attaining wider swath.

Impacts of Regional-Scale Land Use/Land Cover Change on Diurnal Temperature range

The NCAR Community Atmosphere Model(CAM4.0)was used to investigate the climate efects of land use/land cover change(LUCC).Two simulations,one with potential land cover without significant human intervention and the other with current land use,were conducted.Results show that the impacts of LUCC on diurnal temperature range(DTR)are more significant than on mean surface air temperature.The global average annual DTR change due to LUCC is–0.1℃,which is three times as large as the mean temperature change.LUCC influences regional DTR as simulated by the model.In the mid-latitudes,LUCC leads to a decrease in DTR,which is mainly caused by the reduction in daily maximum temperature.However,there are some diferences in the low latitudes.The reduction in DTR in East Asia is mainly the result of the decrease in daily maximum temperature,while in India,the decrease in DTR is due to the increase in daily minimum temperature.In general,the LUCC significantly controls the DTR change through the changes in canopy evaporation and transpiration.

range ACQUISITION IN BINOCULAR 3-D COMPUTER VISION USING EDGE-BASED HIERARCHICAL MATCHING

This paper deals with a binocular 3-D computer vision system based on the hierarchicalmatching of edge features, Frei and Chen operator is used to extract the edge. The averagegradients of an image obtained by two isotropic operators are non-equal quantized andthresholded in an angle, Edge features are extracted after passing a preemphasis transferfunction which can equalize, the noise affection. Binary edge images are decomposed into apyramid structure which is stored and searched using llliffe’s location method. Corre-sponding points are used to determine the range data using triangulation based on an improvedTrivedi’s formula. In calibration the authors set the optical axes of the two cameras parallelto simplify the calculation, A 3 rd order Householder transform is used to solve the compati-ble coupled equations.

On the Trends of Temperature and Daily range in China

It is commonly held nowadays that the global warming trend during this century is due to the enhanced atmospheric greenhouse effect. But the widespread cooling during the 1960s and 1970s showed the possibility of domination of the reversing potential in the nature. It is necessary to analyze the details of the regional temperature changes in order to improve the present knowledge of global warming and the regional climate forecast.
