Al-based quasicrystalline powders were consolidated by a new *** paper describes the consolidation process and the properties of bulk quasicrystalline *** bulk,dense,full quasicrystalline samples were obuined by means of consolidating quasicrystalline powders at superhigh pressure below their crystallizing temperature or at low *** superhigh pressure,the thermal stability of the quasicrystalline powders increased,while the quasicrystalline powders containing some crystalline phases,were purified,that the crystalline phases disappeared and the amount of quasicrystalling phases ***,the consolidated materials possessed high strength and were free from flaws and Mach holes caused by shock waves;therefore,this method is better than the explosion consolidation technique.

Cluster-based composition rules for ternary alloy systems

The cluster-based composition rule in ternary alloy systems including quasicrystals, bulk metallic glasses, crystalline phases and Lave phases-related body-centered cubic (BCC) solid solution forming systems was summarized. The so-called cluster line in a ternary phase diagram refers to a straight composition line linking a specific binary cluster to the third element. The compo- sition ranges of quasicrystals and bulk metallic glasses can be determined by the direct use of cluster lines, where two cluster lines intersect at the optimum phase forming composition. Furthermore, the alloys on the cluster line in Laves phase-related BCC solid solution alloy systems have larger hydrogen storage capacities.

Mathematical Theory and Methods of Mechanics of Quasicrystalline Materials

The review is devoted to introduce the recent development of the study in mathematical theory and methods of mechanics of quasicrystals, respectively. The mechanics of quasicrystalline materials includes elasticity, plasticity, defects, dynamics, fracture etc. In the article some relevant measured data are collected for some important quasicrystal systems, which are necessary for understanding physics and applications of the materials. It is very interesting that the mathe-matical theory and solving methods of the mechanics of quasicrystals have developed rapidly in recent years, which is strongly supported by the experiments and applications. The theoretical development strongly enhances the understanding in-depth the physics including mechanics of the materials. The mathematical theory and computational methods provide a basis to the applications of quasicrystals as functional and structural materials in practice as well. More recently the quasicrystals in soft matter are observed, which challenge the study of based on the quasicrystals of binary and ternary alloys and greatly enlarge the scope of the materials and have aroused a great deal attention of researchers, an introduction about this new phase and its mathematical theory is also given in the review.

＜正＞An algorithm for processing high-resolution microscopic is introduced. The computer simulation showed that the algorithm can enhance and restore the digitized images with convex bright-dots degraded by additive Gaussian noise. The digitized high-resolution electron microscopic （HREM） images of Al-Mn-Si quasicrystal （QC） are deal with via the algorithm. The processed images displayed periodic characteristics. A periodic plane-model is set up based on the observations. The Fourier-transform pattern of the model is in good agreement with the electron-diffraction pattern of the corresponding QC’s orthogonal to the 5-fold axes. Contrary to popular beliefs, the research shows that quasicrystals may also be understood to be （perturbed） complex periodic structures.

quasicrystals are usually used as thin films and coatings, and functionally graded plates play an important role in laminated structures. This paper presents an exact solution for a functionally graded multilayered two-dimensional piezoelectric quasicrystal plate with simply supported boundary conditions. The material properties of the functionally plate is assumed to be exponentially distributed along the thickness direction. Based on the pseudo-Stroh formulism, an exact solution for a functionally graded plate is derived, and the exact solution for the corresponding multilayered case is obtained in terms of the propagator matrix method. Numerical examples show the influence of functionally graded exponential factor and stacking sequence on the plate. The obtained results should be useful for the analysis and design of the functionally graded two-dimensional piezoelectric quasicrystal plate.
