Effect of rotor-mounted protrusion on sealing performance and flow structure in rotor-stator cavity

This paper presents an experimental investigation on the effect of protrusion radial position and height on the sealing performance and flow structure in the rotor-stator cavity. The rotormounted protrusions are assembled at three radial positions and are set to three heights. The cavity is equipped with three rim seals: a radial seal, an axial seal and a seal with double fins on the *** annulus Reynolds number is set at 4:39 ×10;and the rotational Reynolds number ranges from 7:51×10;to 1:20×10;. Heat and mass transfer analogy is applied. Pressure and CO;concentration are measured. The experimental results show that in cavities with different rim seals, radial distributions of the sealing efficiency, pressure and swirl ratio are basically the same. The sealing performance is improved by protrusions compared with the cavity without protrusion and improves with the increase of protrusion radial position and height. The effect of protrusion increases with the increase of the rotational Reynolds number. The windage loss and the flow resistance introduced by protrusions are investigated. It is found that induced windage loss and flow resistance decrease with the increase of protrusion radial position but increase with the protrusion height.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the diagnostic significance of lingual flange protrusion for liver metastasis of patients with malignant ***: The data of 191 patients with malignant neoplasia were analyzed. All photos of patients' tongue image were recorded and lingual flange protrusion was the positive standard. χ~2 test for paired data and Kappa test were used to determine the diagnostic value of lingual flange protrusion for metastatic liver cancer. Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the levels of liver serolog-ical markers. The area under receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC) and logistic regression model were used to analyze the predictive values of lingual flange protrusion, alkaline phosphatase(ALP), and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) ***: Patients with lingual flange protrusion had a higher risk of liver metastasis than those without it(P protrusion and traditional diagnostic criteria(P = 0.541). Kappa was 0.738(P protrusion was significantly correlated with increased serum ALP and LDH levels(P protrusion is better than ALP, LDH and the combination of ALP and LDH(P protrusion and ALP,lingual flange protrusion and LDH, and lingual flange protrusion, ALP and LDH are not better than lingual flange protrusion alone(P > 0.05).CONCLUSION: Lingual flange protrusion is a potential diagnostic marker for liver metastasis of patients with malignant neoplasia.

Treatment of skeletal Cl II includes functional orthopedic treatment, head-gears, extraction of the upper premolars and orthognathic surgery. To treat any patient with functional appliances (bite jumping) an adequate overjet is necessary. In this case an 11 years old female patient has skeletal CLII due to mandibular deficiency with ANB angle 8 degrees, overbite: 3 mm, overjet: 1 mm, extremely convex profile and underdeveloped chin due to the hyper muscle contraction of the lower lip to obtain oral seal. To obtain an adequate overjet lower first premolars were extracted and maximum retraction using mini screws (for maximum anchorage) was applied. Afterwards Rahhal functional appliance was used by the patient 16 hours a day for 6 months and 10 hours a day for another 6 months for retention. After that fixed orthodontic treatment was completed. Lateral cephalometrics were taken, traced and analyzed. In the result Skeletal CLI was obtained (ANB 4 degree), straight facial profile, normal over bite overjet and particular chin development were noticed. As a conclusion, in skeletal CLII malocclusions, lower incisor protrusion will cause a contraindication for functional treatment. Extraction of the lower premolars and retraction of the lower incisors followed by functional orthopedic treatment is an efficient method to treat these cases instead of waiting for orthognathic surgery, also reducing the muscle pressure on the chin will change the development characteristics of it.

Through electroacupuncture(EA) treatment of 51 cases of protrusion of lumbar interver-tebral disc, it was further demonstrated that the specific action and characteristics of Siyao and Wuyao acupoints were significant and elucidated by using some objective indexes and obvious therapeutic ef-fect, which lays a foundation for the development, research, popularization and application of shu-point and provides an effective and practicable way for treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc.

The relationship between the volume of sphenoid sinus (SS) and the prevalence of internal carotid artery (ICA) and optic nerve (ON) protrusions in the SS was studied by using high-resolution CT imaging. The ICA and ON protrusions in SS were observed in randomly selected normal head CT scanning images from 350 adult subjects. Ac-cording to the incidence of ICA protrusion, three groups were divided into no ICA protrusion (70.75%), unilateral protrusion (8.68%) and bi-lateral protrusions (20.57%). The ON protrusion accounted for 16% in 350 subjects and accom-panied absolutely with ICA protrusion, but ICA protrusion appeared without accompanying with ON protrusion. The SS volume depended upon the protrusions in it and showed statistical dif-ferences, without ICA protrusion, the smallest size (11.16 ± 1.60) cm3;the unilateral protrusion, medium size (14.20 ± 1.80) cm3 and the bilateral protrusion, the largest size (25.03 ± 2.21) cm3. By observing 3D reconstructed models of ON and SS, we found ON was adjacent to SS (46%) and to posterior ethmoid sinuses (44%). The current study indicates that SS volume is varied with numbers of the protrusions and that ON location varies with the pneumatization of SS. Our results provide an anatomical basis to the surgeries for SS and its surrounding structures.

The behavior of large deformations of cellular tissues is usually affected by the local properties of cells and their interactions,resulting in folding which acts as an important role in the embryonic development,as well as growing and spreading of a tumor,which can rapidly promote the stereo complexity of the architecture of the *** the present study,a cylindrical vertex model is constructed to explore the morphology of the tubular cell sheets subject to an embedded contractile *** is found that an inner region of the contractile ring in equilibrium will protrude from the tube wall,and it will suddenly collapse when the contractile strength exceeds a threshold,indicating the occurrence of a *** results on the effect of embedded contraction in the tubular shell are quite different from the planar cases,which can reveal the importance of the interaction between the geometric and material non-linearity in cylindrical *** dependence of the large deformation on the bending modulus parameters and contraction strength is also analyzed for the cylindrical cell shell.

Morphological study of floral nectaries in Euonymus and the probable origin of the echinate fruit surface

A conspicuous nectary disk is common but has a distinguishing morphology in the cosmopolitan genus Euonymus. Our study focuses on the morphology of floral nectaries in 21 representatives of Euonymus and Glyptopetalum. Two main types of nectaries were documented: a mix of inter-and extrastaminal nectaries existed between the corolla and the stigma, while the intrastaminal nectaries were distributed between the stigma and the stamen bases. The main route of nectar release in Euonymus is via modified stomata, and different nectarostomata locations were observed: in depressions, slightly raised above the epidermal surface or at the same level as the epidermis. Floral nectaries in E. sect. Echinococcus species developed into the protrusions on the fruit surface at the later stage. The development of nectaries not only explained the mystery of the origin of the echinate fruit surface, but also showed that differences in fruit surface might be inappropriate for use in infrageneric classification. These discoveries inform morphological observations of floral nectaries in Euonymus.

Freezing processes of water and peanut oil droplets on a cold surface are investigated in this paper. We observed during our experiments that the base surface of a water droplet that is in direct contact with the cold surface keeps its original shape, but the other part of the droplet shows an obvious growth along the direction normal to the base surface. One small protrusion appears on the top of the water droplet at the end of the freezing process. The experimental observations also show that no obvious shape change happens during the freezing of peanut oil droplets. It is postulated that the effects of sur- face tension and volume dilatation resulted from liquid-to-solid phase change cause the shape change and protrusions formation. Based on this postulation, a physical and mathematical model is developed. The results of the model of a water droplet’s freezing process correspond with our experimental observations. The observed phenomenon that frost-growth speed on the protrusion is higher than that on the other part of the water droplet is also analyzed.

BACKGROUND Intra-gastric migration of the distal ventriculoperitoneal shunt(VPS)catheter clinically presenting with or without trans-oral extrusion is one of the rare complications of VPS catheter *** To identify the demographics,clinical presentation,clinical findings,and results of surgical therapy offered for the treatment of intra-gastric migration of the distal VPS catheter,clinically presented with or without trans-oral *** An online search was performed for the extraction/retrieval of the published/available literature pertaining to the above-mentioned VPS *** were searched from PubMed,PMC(PubMed Central),ResearchGate,and Google Scholar databases using various terminology relating to the VPS *** first case of migration of a VPS catheter into the stomach was reported in the year 1980,and the data were retrieved from 1980 to December *** were categorized into two groups;Group A:Cases who had migration of the distal VPS catheter into the stomach and clinically presented with trans-oral extrusion of the same,and Group B:Cases who had migration of the distal VPS catheter into the stomach,but presented without trans-oral *** A total of n=46 cases(n=27;58.69%male,and n=19;41.3%females)were recruited for the systematic *** A included n=32,and Group B n=14 *** hydrocephalus was the indication for the primary VPS insertion for approximately half of the(n=22)*** sixty percent(n=27)of them were children≤5 years of age at the time of the diagnosis of the complication mentioned *** seventy-two percent(n=33)cases,this complication was detected within 24 mo after the VPS insertion/last shunt *** diagnosis was evident for the entire group A *** diagnostic modalities were used to confirm the diagnosis for Group B *** surgical procedures were offered for the management of the complication in n=43 cases of both *** two
