This paper makes comments on conflicts in a micro-story of 527 words,The Ray,written by American writer Ron *** story,from a unique perspective of narration,attracts and strikes the reader as a loud protest amidst silence,against human beings' self-destructive abuse of nuclear technology and craziness of arms races during the cold *** paper,from the historical,cultural,and religious contexts,presents an analysis of the hero's death and of the message the reader can draw from the story.

英语中有些动词的用法对学生来说十分微妙,我们叫它微妙动词(tricky verbs)。这类动词的微妙之处表现在两个方面:一是词义不易用汉语确切地解释清楚,二是由于搭配关系引起误解或造成使用上的困难。现将object、suspect和protest的微妙用法归纳如下: 学生在学习object这个词的时候,往往只记住汉语释义是“反对”,并记住它的后面要跟to,由于这两个意思在脑子里扎根较深,所以往往忽视了。object与宾语从句连用时意义上发生了变化,当它与宾语从句连用时,从句是指“反对的理由”而不是指“反对的内容”。object that…是指出“…作为反对的理由”,而不是“反对或不赞成”。例如:

This article examines the discursive strategies employed to negotiate power and ideology in President Buhari’s speech on the#EndSARS protests in *** data for the study comprises President Muhammadu Buhari’s speech on the#EndSARS *** speech was analysed using both Systemic Functional Linguistics and Critical Discourse Analysis,and a discussion of how transitivity patterns and modality choices explain the representation of power,ideology and dominance in the speech *** findings of the study show that the transitivity and modality systems used by the president revealed his disposition toward the participants involved in the protests,and his perception of himself in relation to the others:whether they take an active or passive role in the *** paper concludes that transitivity patterns and modality structures can be used to highlight social actors who on the surface appear common and natural,when they essentially perpetuate inequality and injustice.

The hindgut of lower termites harbors various symbiotic protists, which per- form varied functions in lignocellulose decomposition. As termites are social insects, the species and numbers of these flagellated protists in the termite gut vary among the different castes. Juvenile hormones （JHs） can regulate caste differentiation in termites. In this study, we used the juvenile hormone analog fenoxycarh to induce termite workers （Reticulitermesflaviceps） to differentiate into pre-soldiers. A metatranscriptomic investigation of the protistan community was then performed by 454 pyrosequencing. From a thorough analysis based on 597 312 generated reads, we found that the starch and sucrose metabolism pathway was the most abundant pathway across the metatranscriptome. The current study demonstrates that the metatranscriptome of the protistan community in termites contains an abundance of lignocellulase, which plays a vital role in termite nutrition.

What is the meaning of Zero Hour for African Americans?The Zero Hour of May 8,1945 was a celebratory moment to mark“the victory of the cause of freedom,”in the immortal words of Winston *** what could Zero Hour signify for African Americans who continued to encounter racist and discriminatory practices at the end of the war and into the present?The history of African Americans has been characterized by series of“victories for freedom,”“new beginnings,”“forward progress,”and“breaks with the past.”How many other Zero Hours can we identify in the history of Black people in the U.S.?Examining 20205s moment of pandemic and protests in relation to race and class,I ask what any Zero Hour means for African Americans who have encountered many promising milestones of liberation that fell short of the expected rights and *** literary examples including Gwendolyn Brooks,Amiri Baraka,Ray Durem,Langston Hughes,Frederick Douglass,and Anne Spencer,I propose that African American history has been marked by a long line of Zero Hours that have indeed achieved progress yet never fully realized the goal of just and fair equality of treatment and opportunity.

2013 was a year full of trauma and fury for many people in Taiwan. The death of Hung Chung-Chiu, along with a series of events, including the Referendum of Lungmen Nuclear Power Plant and Dapu Incident, triggered the White Shirt Movement led by Citizen 1985. The movement, as the local harbinger of Internet-organized demonstration, performed a novel form of citizen activity, teasing out a protesting guerrilla that tactically networked disempowered and dispossessed subjects. The guerrilla utilized local mediascapes in reacting to official force with its flowing tactics, which signify the ceaseless negotiation, battle, and play between government and citizens. Extending Sue-Ellen Case＇s notion of horizontal practice of politics and the performative, this paper focuses on the various theatrical elements used in its activities, including environmental theater and social networking, in order to delineate the traumatic imaginaries and flowing tactics embodied by the White Shirt Movement. Working within and against one another, imaginaries and tactics travel back and forth between physical and virtual spaces, constituting the mobility and structure of contemporary protest events.

Moscow-based Feminist Punk performers Pussy Riot challenged the millennial patriarchal Russian State-Church Religio-Political control on freedom in arts and suppression of women. Woman is still the other of this Church-State totalism, outside. The event is extremely small but the symbolism enormous of an intrinsic lack and its insane compensations. Philosopher Zi^ek sees the significance of what Pussy Riot represent for contemporary global capitalism, represented by the American dollar and Wall Street. Performer Madonna sees the difference between America, where she has been able to express herself and says that anyone can, and other parts of the world, namely Russia, where this is not possible. Although Edward Snowdon found sanctuary in Russia from America, so perhaps Zizek is right.
