As the hardware industry moves toward using specialized heterogeneous many-core processors to avoid the effects of the power wall,software developers are finding it hard to deal with the complexity of these *** this paper,we share our experience of developing a programming model and its supporting compiler and libraries for Matrix-3000,which is designed for next-generation exascale supercomputers but has a complex memory hierarchy and processor *** assist its software development,we have developed a software stack from scratch that includes a low-level programming interface and a high-level OpenCL *** low-level programming model offers native programming support for using the bare-metal accelerators of Matrix-3000,while the high-level model allows programmers to use the OpenCL programming *** detail our design choices and highlight the lessons learned from developing system software to enable the programming of bare-metal *** programming models have been deployed in the production environment of an exascale prototype system.

Metamaterials constructed from origami units of different types and behaviors could potentially offer a broader scope of mechanical properties than those formed from identical unit ***,the geometric design rules and property programming methods for such metamaterials have yet to be extensively *** this paper,we propose a new kind of origami metasheet by incorporating a family of different square-twist *** tessellation rule of these metasheets is established to allow compatible mountain-valley crease assignments and geometric parameters among neighboring *** demonstrate through experiments that the energy,initial peak force,and maximum stiffness of the metasheets can be obtained by a summation of the properties of the constitutional *** on this,we are able to program the mechanical properties of the metasheets over a wide range by varying the types and proportions of the units,as well as their geometric and material ***,for a metasheet with a fixed number of units,all the geometrically compatible tessellations can be folded out of the same pre-creased sheet material by simply changing the mountain-valley assignments,thereby allowing the properties of the metasheet to be re-programmed based on specific *** work could inspire a new class of programmable origami metamaterials for current and future mechanical and other engineering applications.

Design and Implementation of an Extended Collectives Library for Unified Parallel C

Unified Parallel C （UPC） is a parallel extension of ANSI C based on the Partitioned Global Address Space （PGAS） programming model, which provides a shared memory view that simplifies code development while it can take advantage of the scalability of distributed memory architectures. Therefore, UPC allows programmers to write parallel applications on hybrid shared/distributed memory architectures, such as multi-core clusters, in a more productive way, accessing remote memory by means of different high-level language constructs, such as assignments to shared variables or collective primitives. However, the standard UPC collectives library includes a reduced set of eight basic primitives with quite limited functionality. This work presents the design and implementation of extended UPC collective functions that overcome the limitations of the standard collectives library, allowing, for example, the use of a specific source and destination thread or defining the amount of data transferred by each particular thread. This library fulfills the demands made by the UPC developers community and implements portable algorithms, independent of the specific UPC compiler/runtime being used. The use of a representative set of these extended collectives has been evaluated using two applications and four kernels as case studies. The results obtained confirm the suitability of the new library to provide easier programming without trading off performance, thus achieving high productivity in parallel programming to harness the performance of hybrid shared/distributed memory architectures in high performance computing.
