Increasing environmental awareness and stringent environmental regulations have motivated many companies to incorporate ecodesign into product development. To assist companies to address the challenge, this research presents a design for environment （DfE） methodology to evaluate and improve derivative consumer electronic product development using a back-propagation neural network （BPNN） model and a technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution （TOPSIS） method. Based on use of a BPNN, the life cycle assessment （LCA） models are developed to estimate quantities of hazardous chemical substances and energy consumption for a derivative consumer electronic product throughout the product life cycle. A performance evaluation and improvement model for DfE is then devised based on the TOPSIS method to analyze the ecodesign performance and provide concrete improvement strategies. With the aforementioned analysis of environmental performance, an enterprise can profoundly understand and significantly enhance the relative DfE performance of a new product compared to the similar competitive products. Finally, we apply an optical mouse development project as a case to elaborate and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. These analytical results can let us understand the DfE performance ranking and acquire the maximum reduced quantity of each DfE criterion for each module of a new product. Meanwhile, to enhance the green competitiveness of the new product, we recommend that the engineers should decrease the area of the circuit board of the new product. In addition, the material of the USB cable for the new product should be switched from the PVC material to the PE material.

Presented in this paper is an integrated approach of computer-aided product development, process design and operation analysis based on a kilo-plant. The implemented kilo-plant, as a research platform to manufacture product in kilogram-scale, was designed especially for fine and specialty chemicals. The characteristics of product synthesis, process operation and product quality control are investigated coupled with computer-aided monitoring, online modeling, simulation and operation process optimization. In this way, chemical product discovery, process design and operation are integrated in a systematic approach, in the aim to respond to rapid changing marketplace demands to new products.

Conveying consumers’specific emotions in new products,referred to as emotional product development or emotional design,is strategically crucial for *** that sentiment analysis(SA)can extract and analyze people’s opinions,sentiments,attitudes,and perceptions regarding different products/services,SA-based emotional design may provide manufacturers with real-time,direct,and rapid decision *** its considerable advancements and numerous survey and review articles,SA is seldom considered in emotional *** study is among the first efforts to conduct a thorough review of SA from the view of emotional *** comprehensive review of aspect-level SA reveals the following:1)All studies focus on extracting product features by mixing technical product features and consumers’emotional ***,such studies cannot capture the relationships between technical and emotional attributes and thus cannot convey specific emotions to the new products.2)Most studies use the English language in SA,but other languages have recently received more interest in ***,after conceptualizing emotion as Kansei and introducing emotional product development and Kansei Engineering,a review of the data-driven emotional design is then conducted.A few efforts start to study emotional design with the help of ***,these studies only focus on either analyzing consumers’preferences on product features or extracting emotional opinions from online reviews,thus cannot realize data-driven emotional product ***,some research opportunities are *** study opens a broad door to aspect-level SA and its integration with emotional product development.

To stay globally competitive, manufacturing companies are increasingly under pressure to bring new products and applications to market, improve existing products, and discover new technologies to produce them at a lower price. New technological findings can enable companies to overcome these challenges. In practice, technology development associated with a long time horizon is often given a lower priority compared with short-term focused product development thus being stronger restricted by everyday business. More and more companies separate their technology development department from product development to promote technological innovations. Due to this additional interface in the R＆D organization new problems arise, resulting in technologies not being implemented in products. The reasons for these problems amongst others concern wrong timing for the transfer or inadequate definition of responsibilities. In this paper of ongoing research, authors introduce a framework to design the transfer processes between technology development and product development. Although there are a number of options for designing the operative transfer, there is no regulatory framework specifying which configuration options are at this particular interface. The approach is to develop a model, which is able to design different company-specific transfer processes taking into account the object being transferred at this interface. Thus, for different objects to be transferred, different transfer processes are designed. The model＇s aim is to enable responsibility of the R＆D management to design their company-specific transfer processes to enable more technologies being implemented into products, thus giving the whole company the possibility to act more innovatively.

Effort on planting and product development of Azadirachta indica in Southwest China

Twenty-four provenances of two species （Azadirachta siamensis and Azadirachta indica） have been introduced to China from South Asia, Southeast Asia and Africa Since 1995. This paper summarizes the researches on the introduction and planting of Azadirachta indica and analyzes the morphological, phenological characteristics, the growth rhythm, pollinating and seed yielding features of the intro- duced 24 provenances of the two species as well as the variations of filial generation plants. The experiments showed that most of the prove- nances of,4. indica have normal growth and can blossom and fruit in the dry-hot valleys with tropical climate conditions in Yunnan Province, China. The normal regions for A. indica were classified and the selection criteria for superior plants were put forward in this paper, more- over, the major contents of industry planning and technical approaches for A. indica plantation establishment were discussed and the countermeasures to reduce the neem-based pesticide products were also proposed.
