Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor(G-CSF)-producing tumor is one of the rare types of cancer clinically characterized by an elevated fever and white blood cell(WBC) increment. Although G-CSF producing tumors have been reported in several types of cancer including those of the lungs, cervix and bladder, G-CSF producing hepatocellular carcinoma is extremely rare. Here, we report the case of a rapidly growing and poorly differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma producing G-CSF. The patient showed symptoms of continuous high fever, stomach pain and cough, and high serum WBC counts, C-reactive protein(CRP) and G-CSF levels were found in laboratory tests. After a radical hepatectomy, the patient completely recovered from the above symptoms and inflammatory state. The serum levels of G-CSF were reduced to normal levels after radical surgery. An immunohistochemical analysis revealed the overexpression of G-CSF in the cytoplasm of certain hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cell. The patient's serum WBC, CRP and G-CSF levels remained within normal levels in the six months after surgery without recurrence. This is the 9^(th) case report of G-CSF producing hepatocellular carcinoma in English literature. We review the clinical characteristics of the G-CSF producing HCC and discuss a possible treatment strategy.

We report a case of an isolated hepatic neoplasia which originated in a site of the liver previously affected by radiation induced liver disease (RILD) in a patient resected for gastric cancer and referred to us for high serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels. This case challenged us in distiguishing, even histologically, between primary liver cancer and AFP producing gastric cancer metastasis. Only a panel of immunohis-tochemical markers allowed the definitive diagnosis of liver metastasis of endodermal stem cell-derived and AFP producing gastric cancer. We discuss the criteria for a differential diagnosis, as well as the possible link between RILD and emergence of liver neoplasia.

Molecular Identification of Shiga-Toxin producing and Enteropathogenic <i>Escherichia coli</i>(STEC and EPEC) in Diarrheic and Healthy Young Alpacas

Isolation and biochemical and molecular identification of 303 strains of Escherichia coli obtained from diarrheic and healthy young alpacas of Puno-Peru, were realized. PCR amplification for 7 virulence factor genes associated with STEC, STEC O157:H7, EPEC: sxt1, sxt2, rfbO157, fliCH7, hlyA, eae y bfp were determined. A total of 39 strains (12.88%) showed amplification for one or more of these genes. Twenty three strains (59%) were classified as STEC and 16 strains (41%) as EPEC. An 88.18% (34/39) of STEC and EPEC strains were obtained from healthy alpacas and only 11.82% (5/39) from diarrheic alpacas considering this specie as potential zoonotic reservoir of STEC and EPEC.

Following the bioautographic te-chnique, 24 lysine producing microor-ganisms have been isolated from amongthe 263 hydrocarbon utilisers. Morphological, cultural and biochemicalcharacters of two promising isolates,have been studied. As one of the important policies of promoting the formation of main functional areas, the industrial policy directly determines the sustainable growth of space control ability of main functional areas. A restricted development zone is a type of main functional area which provides agricultural products and ecological products, assures the supply of national agricultural products and the stability of ecosystems, as well as safeguards the ecological functions and agricultural functions of wider regions by restricting its own development. Therefore scientific, complete and operable industrial policy support is needed. Restricted development zones are distributed widely in western China. With the restriction of their main functions, differential industrial policies should be implemented in the development of the restricted development zones: Dealing well with the relationship between industrial development and ecological protection, developing special industries which are friendly to resources and environment and appropriate for local conditions, guiding and encouraging industries to learn from regions with favorable development conditions, orderly withdrawing industries and enterprises adverse to main functions, facilitating industrial structure upgrading, optimizing industrial organization, improving industrial technological level and rationalizing industrial layout.

Rathke cleft cyst is thought to arise from incomplete obliteration of the lumen of Rathke pouch. The cells of the anterior pituitary lobe, from which pituitary adenomas develop, are also derived from the cells of Rathke pouch. Although Rathke cleft cyst and pituitary adenoma have a shared ancestry, they rarely occur coincidentally. Rathke cleft cysts have been found incidentally in 11% - 33% of post-mortem examinations, and were associated with 1.7% - 2.1% of the pituitary adenoma cases. These coexisting lesions are difficult to diagnose pre-operatively due to the variable signal intensity and position of the Rathke cleft cysts. Treatment of these lesions involves surgical resection to decrease mass effect and medical management to normalize hormonal imbalances. To our best knowledge, only 42 cases of Rathke cleft cyst with a coexisting pituitary adenoma have been reported in the English or Japanese literatures, but none of the coexisting pituitary adenoma is gonadotropin producing. We would like to report a case of Rathke cleft cyst with a coexisting gonadotropin producing adenoma that was successfully treated by endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach with the removal of the sellar lesion and temporary hormone replacement.
