Due to unique and excellent properties,carbon nanotubes(CNTs)are expected to become the next-generation critical engineering mechanical and energy storage materials,which will play a key role as building blocks in aerospace,military equipment,communication sensing,and other cutting-edge fields.For practical application,the assembled macrostructures from individual CNTs are the common paradigms such as fibers or films.As the main representative,CNT films can not only retain the unique properties of their CNTs components,but also are more likely for mass-production than other macrostructures.Therefore,in this review,we focus on preparation of CNT films and discuss their emerging applications in the field of mechanical and electrochemical energy storage/conversion.Firstly,different preparation processes are systematically summarized.Then we introduce some typical strategies to improve their mechanical performances besides strengthening mechanism.Based on the progress of mass-production and performance optimization,we further discuss their potential utilization in mechanical and electrochemical energy storage/conversion devices.Finally,future perspectives for the development of CNT films in both production and application are proposed.We hope that this review will shed light on the preparation/assembly of CNT films and integrated application of excellent properties from individual to macroscopic dimensions.Moreover,the preparation and cross-scale application paradigms of CNT films also offer a good model for other macroscopic ordered assemblies of one-dimensional nanomaterials.

The nitrogen-doped carbon dots(N-CDs)were prepared by using coke powder as carbon source and one-step hydrothermal method.The N-CDs were studied as a fluorescent chemosensor for determining Cr(Ⅵ)in water.The selective,sensitive,reproducibility and stability of as-prepared N-CDs were investigated.The morphology,composition and properties of N-CDs were characterized by a series of methods.The fluorescence quenching of N-CDs by Cr(Ⅵ)was explored.The experimental results reveal that the obtained N-CDs have great hydrophilicity and strong luminescence properties,which demonstrates the successful doping of nitrogen into the CDs.The surface-active groups and emission wavelength range of CDs increase due to the electronegativity and electron donor effect of doping N atom.Furthermore,the N-CDs exhibit good photochemical properties for the detection of Cr(Ⅵ),including a wide linear range from 0.3 to 200μM(R^(2)=0.9935)and a low detection limit of 0.10μM at the signal-to-noise ratio of 3(S/N=3).Moreover,the N-CDs as a sensor was used successfully for Cr(Ⅵ)detection in real water samples with recovery rates of 99.9%-110.6%.This sensor also shows highly reproducibility and stability.The N-CDs fluorescent chemical sensor may be a potential candidate for applying in the field of other fluorescent chemical sensing,catalysis,photoelectric devices and other fields.

By foaming and carbonization processes under atmospheric pressure, a novel thin-walled carbon foam with developed foam structure was successfully prepared from loose medium component(LMC) separated from raw coal by extraction and back-extraction method. The influences of foaming time, carbonization time, and micromolecule content on foam structure were investigated by scanning electron microscope and mercury injection data. Moreover, foaming mechanism of LMC was analyzed and expounded. The results showed that spherical pores and uniform ultrathin pore walls constitute threedimensional foam structure of carbon foam and foam structure is developed with well connectivity.The effects of foaming time, carbonization time, and micromolecule content on foam structure are significant. Especially, average pore diameters of carbon foams prepared from the extracts of LMC are much smaller. With the rise of extraction rate, average pore diameter decreases and pore size distribution is more concentrated on the aperture section of 0–10 μm.

Magnetically separable mesoporous activated carbon was prepared from brown coal in the presence of Fe3O4 as a bi-functional additive.Magnetic activated carbon(MAC)was characterized by lowtemperature nitrogen adsorption,scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and vibrating sample magnetometry(VSM).The evolution behaviors and transition mechanism of Fe3O4 during the preparation of MAC were investigated.The results show that prepared MAC with 6 wt%Fe3O4 addition having a specific surface area and mesopore ratio of 370 m^2·g^-1 and 55.7%,which meet the requirements of adsorption application and magnetic recovery.Highly dispersed iron-containing aggregates with the size of 0.1 lm in the MAC were observed.During the preparation of MAC,Fe3O4 could enhance the escape of volatiles during the carbonization.Fe3O4 could also accelerate burning off the carbon wall during activation,which leads to enlarging micropore size,then resulting in the generation of mesopore and macropore.As a result,a part of Fe3O4 converted into FeO,FeOOH,a-Fe,c-Fe,Fe2SiO4 and compound of Aluminum-iron-silicon.The prepared activated carbon,which was magnetized by both of residual Fe3O4,reduced a-Fe and c-Fe,can be easily separated from the original solution by external magnetic field.

The objective of this paper is to establish the state of knowledge on fast pyrolysis of bio-oil and bio-asphalt binder and to facilitate efforts in improving the overall perform ance of bioasphalt and maximizing its road application.On the basis of reviewing the relevant literature recently,the fast pyrolysis(FasP) preparation process of bio-oil and its main properties,the preparation process of bio-asphalt and its performance and the application of bio-asphalt have been summarized.Due to the variations in raw materials,the adopted methods of FasP to prepare bio-oil could be different,and the properties of bio-oil from different sources are also different.At present,the plant-based bio-oil(mainly derived from wood waste and sawdust) has been widely used to prepare the bio-asphalt.Research on the low-temperature flexibility,high-temperature rheology,workability and other performance of biological asphalt showed that the workability and high-temperature performance of most asphalt are improved after adding bio-oil.However,the low-temperature performance is found to relatively reduce.Also,with regards to its application as a rejuvenator,bio-oil can considerably rejuvenate the aged asphalt’s mixture performance.By far,most of research on bio-asphalt is still focused on the performance of bio-asphalt binder in the laboratory;its application in practical road engineering is still to be examined.This review also provides an outlook for the future,for example,establishing an integrated preparation process from bio-oil to bio-asphalt,and evaluating the properties of bioasphalt by new standards.

As a ceramic material,AlN has very good thermophysical and mechanical properties.In addition,AlN is an effective refining agent for Mg alloys because it has a lattice constant similar to that of Mg.Therefore,AlN is an ideal reinforcement for magnesium matrix composites(MMCs),and is attracting increasing attention.This review addresses the development of preparation technologies for AlN-reinforced Mg matrix composites.The mainstream preparation techniques include stir casting,melt infiltration,powder metallurgy,and in-situ methods.In addition,the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques are analyzed in depth,and it is pointed out that the next direction for the preparation of high-performance AlN-reinforced MMCs is less aluminization and multiple technologies integration.

Hydrogels have three-dimensional network structures that have been widely applied owing to their high water content,excellent biocompatibility,and physicochemical properties.Compared with conventional hydrogels,sprayable hydrogels exhibit excellent temporal and spatial controllability.Biomass materials offer easy accessibility,biocompatibility,biodegradability,and other physicochemical properties that are extensively used in the formation of sprayable hydrogels.In situ formed biomass-based sprayable hydrogels are realized by chemical or physical crosslinking.Rapid spray filming,in situ drug delivery,high permeability,and flexible portability enable biomass-based sprayable hydrogels to show great potential for topical drug delivery,wound healing,and other applications.This review describes in detail the status of research on the preparation and application of biomassbased sprayable hydrogels and suggests prospects for their future development.

Environmental cleaning is an important aspect of bacteria control.Ethyl cellulose microcapsules containing potassium monopersulfate(PMCM)were prepared by emulsified solvent diffusion method.The chemical structure and microstructure of the obtained PMCM was characterized by methods of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy and X-ACT energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.The SEM micrographs of the PMCM containing 21.6%of C,46.8%of O,10.7%of S and 19.4%of K was relatively smooth.Thermal stability,sustained release performance,and antimicrobial activity of PMCM were investigated.The results showed that the drug loading and encapsulation efficiency of PMCM were 30.3%and 42.6%respectively.Potassium monopersulfate was fully released after 8 h,following a Fickian diffusion mechanism.Results showed that the microcapsules prepared with a high concentration of potassium monopersulfate solution showed a good antimicrobial effect.The microcapsule wall of the resulting PMCM increased with increasing ethyl cellulose content and had high thermal stability from the data of 69%residue rate.The excellent thermal stability and high sustained release performance of PMCM showed high application value.

Flexible Ceramic Fibers: Recent Development in preparation and Application

Flexible ceramic fibers(FCFs)have been developed for various advanced applications due to their superior mechanical flexibility,high temperature resistance,and excellent chemical stability.In this article,we present an overview on the recent progress of FCFs in terms of materials,fabrication methods,and applications.We begin with a brief introduction to FCFs and the materials for preparation of FCFs.After that,various methods for preparation of FCFs are discussed,including centrifugal spinning,electrospinning,solution blow spinning,self-assembly,chemical vapor deposition,atomic layer deposition,and polymer conversion.Recent applications of FCFs in various fields are further illustrated in detail,including thermal insulation,air filtration,water treatment,sound absorption,electromagnetic wave absorption,battery separator,catalytic application,among others.Finally,some perspectives on the future directions and opportunities for the preparation and application of FCFs are highlighted.We envision that this review will provide readers with some meaningful guidance on the preparation of FCFs and inspire them to explore more potential applications.
