The study examines the influence that pre-ipo CFOs(chief financial officers) have on post-ipo earnings management of Chinese public firms between 2006 and *** controlling the pre-ipo-ceo(chief executive officer) effect,the results show that firms with pre-ipo CFOs are less likely to engage in earnings management than firms with post-ipo CFOs and that the pre-ipo-CFO effect on earnings management is weaker than the pre-ipo-ceo *** negative association between pre-ipo CFO and post-ipo earnings management is statistically significant only in the case of male *** research advances research on how pre-ipo status,as an upper echelon characteristic,affects CFOs’ financial reporting *** of this study also imply that failing to incorporate cultural context may bias the results of upper echelons research on financial reporting quality.
