A Thermal-Conscious Integrated Circuit power model and Its Impact on Dynamic Voltage Scaling Techniques

We propose a novel thermal-conscious power model for integrated circuits that can accurately predict power and temperature under voltage scaling. Experimental results show that the leakage power consumption is underestimated by 52 % if thermal effects are omitted. Furthermore, an inconsistency arises when energy and temperature are simultaneously optimized by dynamic voltage scaling. Temperature is a limiting factor for future integrated circuits,and the thermal optimization approach can attain a temperature reduction of up to 12℃ with less than 1.8% energy penalty compared with the energy optimization one.

To improve the accuracy and speed in cycle-accurate power estimation, this paper uses multiple dimensional coefficients to build a Bayesian inference dynamic power model. By analyzing the power distribution and internal node state, we find the deficiency of only using port information. Then, we define the gate level number computing method and the concept of slice, and propose using slice analysis to distill switching density as coefficients in a special circuit stage and participate in Bayesian inference with port information. Experiments show that this method can reduce the power-per-cycle estimation error by 21.9% and the root mean square error by 25.0% compared with the original model, and maintain a 700 ＋ speedup compared with the existing gate-level power analysis technique.

Reducing the power consumption has become one of the most important challenges in designing modem data centers due to the explosive growth of data. The tradi- tional approaches employed to decrease the power consump- tion normally do not consider the power of IT devices and the power of cooling system simultaneously. In contrast to existing works, this paper proposes a power model which can minimize the overall power consumption of data centers by balancing the computing power and cooling power. Fur- thermore, an enhanced genetic algorithm （EGA） is designed to explore the solution space of the power model since the model is a liner programming problem. However, EGA is computing intensive and the performance gradually decreases with the growth of the problem size. Therefore, heuristic greedy sequence （HGS） is proposed to simplify the calcu- lation by leveraging the nature of greed. In contrast to EGA, HGS can determine the workload allocation of a specific data center layout with only one calculation. Experimental results demonstrate that both the EGA and HGS can significantly reduce the power consumption of data centers in contrast to the random algorithm. Additionally, HGS significantly out- performs EGA in terms of the continuity of workload alloca- tion and execution performance.

This article examines vulnerabilities to power analysis attacks between software and hardware implementations of cryptographic algorithms. Representative platforms including an Atmel 89S8252 8-bit processor and a 0.25 um 1.8 v standard cell circuit are proposed to implement the advance encryption standard （AES）. A simulation-based experimental environment is built to acquire power data, and single-bit differential power analysis （DPA）, and multi-bit DPA and correlation power analysis （CPA） attacks are conducted on two implementations respectively. The experimental results show that the hardware implementation has less data-dependent power leakages to resist power attacks. Furthermore, an improved DPA approach is proposed. It adopts hamming distance of intermediate results as power model and arranges plaintext inputs to differentiate power traces to the maximal probability. Compared with the original power attacks, our improved DPA performs a successful attack on AES hardware implementations with acceptable power measurements and fewer computations.

IEEE802.11,known as WiFi has proliferated in the last *** can be found in smartphones,laptops,smart TVs and surveillance *** popularity has revealed many issues in health,data privacy and *** this work,a WiFi measurement study has been conducted in Amman,the capital city of *** Android App has been written to harvest WiFi information of the transmitted frames of any surrounding Access points(APs).More than 240,000 APs information has been harvested in this *** harvested data have been analyzed to find statistics ofWiFi devices in this ***,three power distribution models have been derived from the data for three different areas,closed,open and hybrid *** addition,the collected data revealed that the SSID can be leveraged as a landmark for the access points(APs).To this end,SSIDtrack algorithm is proposed to track shoppers/walkers in closed areas,such as malls to find their walking route utilizing only the SSID information collected from the surrounding *** algorithm has been tested in two different malls that consist of four different *** accuracy recorded for the algorithm acceded 95%.

Convenient and effective methods to determine seasonal changes in individual leaf area (LA) and leaf mass (LM) of plants are useful in research on plant physiology and forest ecology. However, practical methods for estimating LA and LM of elm (Ulmus japonica) leaves in different periods have rarely been reported. We collected sample elm leaves in June, July and September. Then, we developed allometric models relating LA, LM and leaf parameters, such as leaf length (L) and width (W) or the product of L and W (LW). Our objective was to find optimal allometric models for conveniently and effectively estimating LA and LM of elm leaves in different periods. LA and LM were significantly correlated with leaf parameters (P models with LW as an independent variable were best for estimating LA and LM in each period. A linear model was separately developed to predict LA of elm leaves in June, July and September, and it yielded high accuracies of 93, 96 and 96%, respectively. Similarly, a specific allometric model for predicting LM was developed separately in three periods, and the optimal model form in both June and July was a power model, but the linear model was optimal for September. The accuracies of the allometric models in predicting LM were 88, 83 and 84% for June, July and September, respectively. The error caused by ignoring seasonal variation of allometric models in predicting LA and LM in the three periods were 1-4 and 16-59%, respectively.
