Regulation of mitochondrial NAD pool via NAD^+ transporter 2 is essential for matrix NADH homeostasis and ROS production in Arabidopsis

Reactive oxygen species(ROS) play a crucial role in numerous biological processes in plants, including development, responses to environmental stimuli, and programmed cell death(PCD). Deficiency in MOSAIC DEATH 1(MOD1), a plastid-localized enoyl-ACP reductase essential for de novo fatty acid biosynthesis in Arabidopsis thaliana, leads to the increased malate export from chloroplasts to mitochondria, and the subsequent accumulation of mitochondria-generated ROS and PCD. In this study, we report the identification and characterization of a mod1 suppressor, som592. SOM592 encodes mitochondrion-localized NAD^+ transporter 2(NDT2). We show that the mitochondrial NAD pool is elevated in the mod1 mutant. The som592 mutation fully suppressed mitochondrial NADH hyper-accumulation, ROS production, and PCD in the mod1 mutant, indicating a causal relationship between mitochondrial NAD accumulation and ROS/PCD phenotypes. We also show that in wild-type plants, the mitochondrial NAD+uptake is involved in the regulation of ROS production in response to continuous photoperiod. Elevation of the alternative respiration pathway can suppress ROS accumulation and PCD in mod1, but leads to growth restriction. These findings uncover a regulatory mechanism for mitochondrial ROS production via NADH homeostasis in Arabidopsis thaliana that is likely important for growth regulation in response to altered photoperiod.

An Experimental Study of Porous Surface Tubes for Enhancement of Binary Liquid Mixture pool Boiling Heat Transfer

Experiments have been conducted on the pool boiling of binary mixtures in JK tubeswith porous surface and ribbed channels,attempting to enhace the boiling heat transfer coefficientsinvolved.The binary mixtures used in this study are R113 and R11.The results show that the boilingfi1m heat transfer coefficients for the R113 and R11 binary mixtures in JK2 and JK1 tubes are 2—8tirnes and 2—5 times greater than those in smooth tubes respectively.Based on this experimentaldata and simple theoretical analysis,a correlation has been proposed to predict the boiling heattransfer coefficients for R113/R11 mixtures in a horizontal JK tube with a relative error of less than16%.

An Improved Three-Dimensional Non-Equilibrium Mixing pool Model

This paper presents an improved three-dimensional non-equilibrium mixing pool model.It is a simplified form of the original model and is more practical for applications.The simulation re-sults show that the industrial scale distillation tray columns can be described closely by the improvedmodel.The effects of model parameters,such as the number of mixing pools,the point efficiencyand flow pattern,on separation are analyzed quantitatively.

Theoretical and experimental investigation of gas metal arc weld pool in commercially pure aluminum:Effect of welding current on geometry

Effects of welding current on temperature and velocity fields during gas metal arc welding(GMAW) of commercially pure aluminum were simulated. Equations of conservation of mass, energy and momentum were solved in a three-dimensional transient model using FLOW-3 D software. The mathematical model considered buoyancy and surface tension driving forces. Further, effects of droplet heat content and impact force on weld pool surface deformation were added to the model. The results of simulation showed that an increase in the welding current could increase peak temperature and the maximum velocity in the weld pool. The weld pool dimensions and width of the heat-affected zone(HAZ) were enlarged by increasing the welding current. In addition, dimensionless Peclet, Grashof and surface tension Reynolds numbers were calculated to understand the importance of heat transfer by convection and the roles of various driving forces in the weld pool. In order to validate the model, welding experiments were conducted under several welding currents. The predicted weld pool dimensions were compared with the corresponding experimental results, and good agreement between simulation and preliminary test results was achieved.

Unlocked disinfection by-product formation potential upon exposure of swimming pool water to additional stimulants

Anthropogenic organics are known to be responsible for the formation of harmful disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in swimming pool water (SPW). The research explored an important scenario of SPW with no additional anthropogenic organic input. With stimulations by residual chlorine or additional chlorine and extended incubation, the formation of DBPs, especially chlorofonn, was significantly induced. Similar observations were found by investigating synthetic SPW made with sweat and urine. The presence of urine led to a massive fbmiation of chloroform, as noted by an approximate 19-fbld increase after 165-day incubation with a shock chlorine dose. The research suggests that consistent residual chlorine and long water retention as two typical features of SPW could unlock the DBP fbnnation potential of anthropogenic organics. Thus, limiting the introduction of anthropogenic organics may not have an immediate effect on reducing DBP levels, because their reactions with chlorine can be slow and long-lasting. pool management should prioritize on control of urine and improving air ventilation. This work is useful to deepen understandings about DBP formation in SPW and provide implications for pool management and prospective legislation.

Mechanism of pool separation and stratification in laser remelting and cladding

The laser remelting with a two-layer material system (upper material was Al-30 % Ti-20 % Ni alloy,substrate was commercial aluminum alloy) and the laser cladding of a commercial 45 steel with copper Powder (including 25%SiC) were carried out using a 2kW continuous CO2 laser. For the case of laser remelting, a upper pool in the alloying layer and a lower pool in the substrate separated by the unmelted Al-Ti-Ni alloy were observed. For laser cladding, a stratified pool was observed, whose top layer was Cu alloy liquid and bottom was Fe alloy liquid. The mechanism of laser pool separation and stratification is illustrated by numerical calculation of heat transter process of the two-layer system, combining with material physical properties (especially mixed enthalpy). A classification criterion for laser pool with the two-layer material system has been presented and four types of the laser pool are divided into unique pool, separated pool, mixed pool and stratified pool,which provides a theoretical basis for obtaining a excellent surface coating.

Penetration Estimation of GMA Backing Welding Based on Weld pool Geometry Parameters

Penetration estimation is a prerequisite of the automation of backing welding based on vision sensing technology. However, the arc interference in welding process leads to the difficulties of extracting the weld pool characteristic information, which brings great challenges to the penetration estimation. At present, most researches focus on the extraction of weld pool geometry parameters, and the visual sensing systems are complex in structure and complicated in the image processing algorithms. The research of penetration estimation based on weld pool geometry parameters is still in the exploratory stage. The purpose of this paper is to research the relationship between the weld pool geometry parameters and the penetration during backing welding and to estimate penetration using the weld pool geometry parameters. A passive vision sensing test system for gas metal arc (GMA) backing welding was established. An image processing algorithm was developed to extract the weld pool geometry parameters, namely, the area, maximum width and length, half-length, length-width ratio and advancing contact angle (simplified as AWP, MWWP, MLWP, HLWP, LWR and ACA, respectively). The corresponding relationships between the weld pool geometry parameters and the penetration state were explored by analysing their changes with the welding current and speed. The distribution of the weld pool geometry parameters corresponding to penetration was determined. When the AWP of the weld pool is within a certain range and the values of LWR and ACA are close to their maximum and minimum respectively, the penetration is in good condition. A mathematical model with the weld pool geometry parameters as independent variables and the back-bead width (the indicator of the penetration state) as a dependent variable was established based on multivariable linear regression analysis, and relevant statistical tests were carried out. Cryptocurrencies represented by Bitcoin have fully demonstrated their advantages and great potential in payment and monetary systems during the last decade.The mining pool,which is considered the source of Bitcoin,is the cornerstone of market stability.The surveillance of the mining pool can help regulators effectively assess the overall health of Bitcoin and issues.However,the anonymity of mining-pool miners and the difficulty of analyzing large numbers of transactions limit in-depth analysis.It is also a challenge to achieve intuitive and comprehensive monitoring of multi-source heterogeneous data.In this study,we present SupoolVisor,an interactive visual analytics system that supports surveillance of the mining pool and de-anonymization by visual reasoning.SupoolVisor is divided into pool level and address level.At the pool level,we use a sorted stream graph to illustrate the evolution of computing power of pools over time,and glyphs are designed in two other views to demonstrate the influence scope of the mining pool and the migration of pool members.At the address level,we use a force-directed graph and a massive sequence view to present the dynamic address network in the mining pool.Particularly,these two views,together with the Radviz view,support an iterative visual reasoning process for de-anonymization of pool members and provide interactions for cross-view analysis and identity marking.Effectiveness and usability of SupoolVisor are demonstrated using three cases,in which we cooperate closely with experts in this field.

pool boiling on the superhydrophilic surface with TiO_2 nanotube arrays

Surface with TiO2 nanotube arrays(TNTAs)is superhydrophilic and of great specific area.This paper investigates the pool boiling characteristics at the thermal interface with TNTAs.The results show that the TNTAs interface can enhance the pool boiling heat transfer compared to the pure Ti metal plate.The bubbles formed at the initial nucleation state are very small and released in higher frequency.The pool boiling heat transfer enhancement at the TNTAs interface may be attributed to the high density of nucleate site,high intrinsic heating area of nanotubes layer,superhydrophilicity and the vertically oriented nanotube structure.

Experimental investigation of submerged impinging jets in a plunge pool downstream of large dams

Submerged impinging jets in a plunge pool downstream of large dams are experimentally investigated in details. By use of the hot\|film anemometer, the velocity field in the plunge pool produced by middle orifices of 1∶400 scale Xiluodu spillway model is measured. The diffusive characteristics and energy dissipation mechanism of the submerged impinging jet in the plunge pool are analyzed.
