Ore Genesis for Stratiform Ore Bodies of the Dongfengnanshan Copper polymetallic Deposit in the Yanbian Area, NE China:Constraints from LA-ICP-MS in situ Trace Elements and Sulfide S–Pb Isotopes

The Dongfengnanshan Cu polymetallic deposit is one representative deposit of the Tianbaoshan ore district in the Yanbian area, northeast(NE) China. There occur two types of ore bodies in this deposit, the stratiform ore bodies and veintype ones, controlled by the Early Permian strata and the Late Hercynian diorite intrusion, respectively. Due to the ambiguous genetic type of the stratiform ore bodies, there has been controversy on the relationship between them and veintype ore bodies. To determine the genetic type of stratiform ore bodies, laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(LA-ICP-MS) in situ trace elements and S–Pb isotope analysis have been carried on the sulfides in the stratiform ore bodies. Compared with that in skarn, Mississippi Valley-type(MVT), and epithermal deposits, sphalerite samples in the stratiform ore bodies of the Dongfengnanshan deposit are significantly enriched in Fe, Mn, and In, while depleted in Ga, Ge, and Cd, which is similar to the sphalerite in volcanic-associated massive sulfide(VMS) deposits. Co/Ni ratio of pyrrhotites in the stratiform ore bodies is similar to that in VMS-type deposits. The concentrations of Zn and Cd of chalcopyrites are similar to those of recrystallized VMS-type deposits. These characteristics also reflect the intermediate ore-forming temperature of the stratiform ore bodies in this deposit. Sulfur isotope compositions of sulfides are similar to those of VMS-type deposits, reflecting that sulfur originated from the Permian Miaoling Formation. Lead isotope compositions indicate mixed-source for lead. Moreover, the comparison of the Dongfengnanshan stratiform ore bodies with some VMStype deposits in China and abroad, on the trace elements and S–Pb isotope characteristics of the sulfides reveals that the stratiform ore bodies of the Dongfengnanshan deposit belong to the VMS-type, and have closely genetic relationship with the early Permian marine volcanic sedimentary rocks.

Extraterrestrial 3He in marine polymetallic nodules: a potential method for measuring growth rate of nodules

The comparative measurements of helium isotope compositions between marine polymetallic nodules and their surrounding sediments, their magnetic fractions and bulk from C-C Zone of the East Pacific Basin are reported. The 4He content and 3He/4He ratio of polymetallic nodules and their surrounding sediments are extremely high; the 3He, 4He concentrations and most 3He/4He ratios of magnetic fractions in nodules and sediments are apparently higher than those in bulk. The helium isotope data points of nodules and sediments are all distributed along or closely to the mixing curve of the interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) and the terrigenous sediments in the chart of 3He-3He/4He. In the same sampling site, the 3He/4He ratios of nodules and their surrounding sediments are very similar, and the changes of both ratios are synchronous. It shows that the high 3He/4He ratios in nodules and sediments may all result from IDPs. So, if the flux of extraterrestrial 3He into the nodules and sediments is constant, the growth rate of polymetallic nodules and the sedimentation rate of sediments can be independently calculated according to the concentration of extraterrestrial 3He in nodules and sediments.

Based on the reported Fe clusters constructed by using N-tris(hydroxymethyl)methylglycine (H_5thmmg),herein,we explored the use of H_5 thmmg for Ni chemistry.Successfully,an octanuclear Ni cluster,Ni_(8)O(H_(3)thmmg)_6·2NO_(3)(Ni_(8)) was acquired under solvothermal condition.Its metallic core is comprised of two centrosymmetric cubanes Ni_(4)(μ_(3)-O)_(3)(μ_6-O) linked by sharing an O^(2-)ion and six H_(3)thmmg^(2-) ligands are attached to the periphery.Interestingly,the 2-mercapto-5-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole (Hmat) ligand with both N and S donor atoms was introduced into the synthesis of Ni_(8) cluster,a disparate decanuclear nickel cluster,Ni_(10)O(OH)_(2)(H_(3)thmmg)_(4)(mat)_(8)(Ni_(10)) is assembled by H_(3)thmmg^(2-) and mat^(-) mixed ligands.The metal core of Ni_(10)cluster is a pudgy tetrahedron,whose four vertexes are four Ni^(2+)ions and the remanent six Ni^(2+) ions are located in the tetrahedral cavity.Four H_(3)thmmg^(2-) ligands are located at the four vertices of the tetrahedron and 8 mat^(-) ligands are all on the six sides of the tetrahedron.The different synthetic conditions contribute to the different configurations.Magnetic studies indicate that both complexes Ni_(8) and Ni_(10) display antiferromagnetic interactions.

Deep-seated structure and metallogenic dynamics of the Ailaoshan polymetallic mineralization concentration area, Yunnan Province, China

The Ailaoshan poly-metallic mineralization concentrated area (MCA) consists of the well known Ailaoshan metallogenic belt and adjacent mineral districts and/or deposits. Located in an area of several complex and intersecting tectonic units, the Ailaoshan poly-metallic MCA is controlled by deep crustal and mantle tectonism. Through interpretation of remote sensing images, we identified a large ring structure system that surrounds the MCA. This ring structure encloses regional deep-crustal faults, ductile shear zones, geothermal anomalies, magmatic rocks, and the major mineral deposits, all of which are the reflections of deep tectonic geodynamics that have been long active in this area. Geophysical data indicate that the crust is comprised of relatively stable two or three layers, with some irregular lower-velocity belts. The Moho in the ring sutures occurs as an area of local uplift. There exists an obvious transitional zone between the crust and mantle boundaries. Asthenopheric mantle shows multi-layer upwelling, which indicates multiple events during different geological epochs. It is believed that these mantle events or pulses were responsible for the formation of the regional shear zones, magmatic rocks, and polymetallic orebodies. Furthermore, an integrated metallogenic dynamics model related to the asthenopheric upwelling pulses in the MCA is established, defining events as old as Late Paleozoic.

Applied statistical functions and multivariate analysis of geochemical compositional data to evaluate mineralization in Glojeh polymetallic deposit,NW Iran

Various genesis of epithermal veins as well as host rock cause complication in the modeling process. Thus LINEST and controlling function were applied to improve the accuracy and the quality of the model.The LINEST is a model which is based on multiple linear regression and refers to a branch of applied statistics.This method concerns directly to the application oft-test (TINV and TDIST to analyses of variables in the model)and F- test (FDIST,F-statistic to compare different models) analysis.Backward elimination technique is applied to reduce the number of variables in the model through all the borehole data.After 18 steps,an optimized reduced model (ORM)was constructed and ranked in order of importance as Pb >Ag >P >Hg>Mn>Nb >U>Sr>Sn>As > Cu,with the lowest confidence level (CL)of 92% for Cu.According to the epigenetic vein genesis of Glojeh polymetallic deposit,determination of spatial pattems and elemental associations accompanied by anomaly separation were conducted by K-means cluster and robust factor analysis method based on centered log-ratio (clr)transformed data.Therefore,12 samples (cluster 2)with the maximum distance from centroid,indicates the intensity of vein polymetallic mineralization in the deposit.In addition, an ORM for vein population was extracted for Sb >A1 > As >Mg >Pb >Cu >Ag elements with the R2 up to 0.99. On the other hand,after 23 steps of optimization process at the host rock population,an ORM Was conducted by Ag >Te >Hg >Pb >Mg >A1 >Sb >As represented in descending order oft-values.It revealed that Te and Hg can be considered as pathfinder elements for Au at the host rock.Based on the ORMs at each population Ag,Pb,and As were often associated with Au mineralization.The concentration ratio of (tSb × tA1)vein/(tSb × tA1)baekground as an enrichment index can intensify the mineralization detection.Finally,Glojeh deposit was evaluated to be classified as a vein-style Au (Ag,Pb,As)-polymetallic mineralization.

Genetic Types and Metallogenic Model for the polymetallic Copper–Gold Deposits in the Tongling Ore District, Anhui Province, Eastern China

The Tongling ore district is one of the most economically important ore areas in the Middle–Lower Yangtze River Metallogenic Belt, eastern China. It contains hundreds of polymetallic copper–gold deposits and occurrences. Those deposits are mainly clustered(from west to east) within the Tongguanshan, Shizishan, Xinqiao, Fenghuangshan, and Shatanjiao orefields. Until recently, the majority of these deposits were thought to be skarn-or porphyry–skarn-type deposits; however there have been recent discoveries of numerous vein-type Au, Ag, and Pb-Zn deposits that do not fall into either of these categories. This indicates that there is some uncertainty over this classification. Here, we present the results of several systematic geological studies of representative deposits in the Tongling ore district. From investigation of the ore-controlling structures, lithology of the host rock, mineral assemblages, and the characteristics of the mineralization and alteration within these deposits, three genetic types of deposits(skarn-, porphyry-, and vein-type deposits) have been identified. The spatial and temporal relationships between the orebodies and Yanshanian intrusions combined with the sources of the ore-forming fluids and metals, as well as the geodynamic setting of this ore district, indicate that all three deposit types are genetically related each other and constitute a magmatic–hydrothermal system. This study outlines a model that relates the polymetallic copper–gold porphyry-, skarn-, and vein-type deposits within the Tongling ore district. This model provides a theoretical basis to guide exploration for deep-seated and concealed porphyry-type Cu(–Mo, –Au) deposits as well as shallow vein-type Au, Ag, and Pb–Zn deposits in this area and elsewhere.

PGE patterns of ores of Dajing Cu-polymetallic deposit in Linxi County, Inner Mongolia:Indicator to source of metallogenic elements

By comparing PGE patterns of sulfide ores with that of basic-ultrabasic dikes occurring in the Dajing Cu-polymetallic deposit, we discover that there are similar positive slopes between the basic-ultrabasic dikes and the black ores composed mainly of sphalerite and galena, reflecting affinity of their source. The PGE patterns of the yellow ores composed basically of chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite and pyrite are actually different. One is close to the pattern of the mantle 1herzolite, and others resemble the pattern of the basic rocks. However, the concentrations of Ru are higher in the yellow ores, reflecting that sulfur attains or approaches saturation in their parent magma. The PGE characteristics of ores and dikes show that the magmas derived from the deep of crust and the metallogenic elements were supplied mainly by growth material of the crust. In addition, the mantle-derived magma also offered some elements.

Nanometer properties of oceanic polymetallic nodules and cobalt-rich crusts

An ammonia leaching process was utilized to extract Co, Ni and Cu from oceanic polymetallic nodules, whereas an acid leaching process was utilized to extract Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and Mn from cobalt-rich crusts. Both processes produced nanometer materials-ammonia leaching residue and acid leaching residue. A systematic study was conducted on the phase, composition and physicochemistry properties of these residues. The result shows that both residues contain a large amount of nanometer minerals. Ammonia leaching residue mainly consists of rhodochrosite, with the average grain diameter of 17.9 nm; whereas the acid leaching residue mainly consists of well-developed bassanite, with the average grain deameter of 9.5 nm. The bassanite also has a microporous structure, the volume of the pore space is 1.23×10-2 mL/g. Both the ammonia and acid leaching residues have a large specific surface area, and they display a strong adsorption capacity to saturate sodium chloride vapour, N2 and SO2. Both residues have high

Analysis of prospecting polymetallic metallogenic belts by comprehensive geophysical method

This paper is based on the analysis and research on the silver-lead-zinc polymetallic ore in New Ballyhoo Banner in southern Manzhouli of Inner Mongolia.Because metal mineralization brings rock formations,the geophysical features such as low resistivity,high polarization rate and uneven distribution of magnetization,the comprehensive geophysical methods are adopted including high-precision magnetic measurement,high-power induced polarization,IP field middle gradient and controlled source audio-frequency magnetotellurics.In the survey work of multi-metal ore deposits,from surface sweeping to single point measurement,and from single point to section going deeper layer by layer,the resolution of measurement is continuously improved,and various geophysical methods support and complement each other,so explorers can successfully predict the direction,scale and volume of the metallogenic belts in conjunction with geochemical exploration,geological survey and drilling.It has provided a strong basis for completing the exploration task of predicting the reserve volume of ore bodies.The research conclusions of this exploration case have thus a high reference value in the same type of exploration work.
