In order to improve the use efficiency of environmental data intbrmation which has existed and to be produced, correctly control the situation of the regional environmental pollution, and supervise the regional environmental pollution recovery and urban planning, the paper crests the main-elements analysis module based on Super-Map GIS, beyond which, using the information of environmental pollution discharge data of some typical areas of Beijing. The paper analyses those representative regional environmental discharge data by the systemic main-clements analysis module, speedily discoveries and explains the regional environmental major control factors in the studying region. According to the special points of social, economical and environmental in the region, the paper gives out the improvement policies of regional environmental quality and practicable environmental engineering disposed project. This research not only indicates the development direction of the urban environmental management, but also builds up a main frame of the urban environmental planning. This paper and its relative works provide an efficiently digital management tool for the urban regional environmental management and explore the feasible method and mode for the improvement of urban regional environmental quality.

This paper considers an inverse problem for a partial differential equation to identify a pollution point source in a watershed. The mathematical model of the problem is a weakly coupled system of two linear parabolic equations for the concentrations u（x, t） and v（x, t） with an unknown point source F（x, t） = A（ t）δ（x- s） related to the concentration u（x, t）, where s is the point source location and A（t） is the amplitude of the pollution point source. Assuming that source F becomes inactive after time T＊, it is proved that it can be uniquely determined by the indirect measurements { v（0, t）, v（ a, t）, v（ b, t）, v（ l, t）, 0 〈 t ≤ T, T＊〈 T}, and, thus, the local Lipschitz stability for this inverse source problem is obtained. Based on the proof of its uniqueness, an inversion scheme is presented to determine the point source. Finally, two numerical examples are given to show the feasibility of the inversion scheme.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers in soil from three typical industrial areas in Beijing, China

Areas containing industrial facilities belonging to three different typical industries that may cause pollution by polybrominated diphenyl ethers （PBDEs） in Beijing, China were investigated. Specifically, the areas contained a solid waste incineration plant, a chemical factory, and a heat and power plant. Investigation of the pollution status of PBDEs in the surface soil from areas around these industries revealed the highest concentration of 42 PBDE congeners （118 ng/g, dry mass） at the solid waste incineration plant. In the other two plants, the highest concentrations were both 26 ng/g （dry mass）. Among the PBDE homologues, the PBDE contamination at all sites showed similar congener compositions, with BDE 209 being the dominant congener. Our findings established the first contamination status of three typical industrial areas in Beijing. Furthermore, the total concentrations of 42 PBDE congeners tended to decrease as the distance from the investigated plants increased. Overall, these plants were identified as potential pollution sources of PBDEs in Beijing. Moreover, Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the major PBDE source in Beijing may be associated with the technical deca-BDE and penta-BDE mixture. Based on the data obtained in this preliminary investigation, further study of the potential of these sources to emit PBDEs in Beijing is warranted.

The main objectives of this study were to introduce an integrated method for effectively identifying soil heavy metal pollution sources and apportioning their contributions, and apply it to a case study. The method combines the principal component analysis/absolute principal component scores (PCA/APCS) receptor model and geostatistics. The case study was conducted in an area of 31 km2 in the urban-rural transition zone of Wuhan, a metropolis of central China. 124 topsoil samples were collected for measuring the concentrations of eight heavy metal elements (Mn, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni and Co). PCA results revealed that three major factors were responsible for soil heavy metal pollution, which were initially identified as "steel production", "agronomic input" and "coal consumption". The APCS technique, combined with multiple linear regression analysis, was then applied for source apportionment. Steel production appeared to be the main source for Ni, Co, Cd, Zn and Mn, agronomic input for Cu, and coal consumption for Pb and Cr. Geostatistical interpolation using ordinary kriging was finally used to map the spatial distributions of the contributions of pollution sources and further confirm the result interpretations. The introduced method appears to be an effective tool in soil pollution source apportionment and identification, and might provide valuable reference information for pollution control and environmental management.

A total of 222 surface soil samples and 40 plant samples were collected to investigate the spatial distribution and possible sources of soil heavy metals and to know the uptake and translocation of heavy metals from roots to different plant parts in a representative vegetable production area in the Baguazhou Island, a suburb of Nanjing City, East China. The arithmetic mean values of total Cd, Cr,Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn concentrations in the soils were 0.314, 133, 41.0, 58.0, 31.8, and 114 mg kg-1, respectively. All of these values were above the topsoil background values in the Nanjing area. Multivariate and geostatistical analyses showed that soil Cd contamination was derived mainly from agricultural practices. In contrast, Cu and Zn were derived mainly from soil parent materials and Pb from atmospheric deposition from highway gasoline stations. Artemisia selengensis, a locally important specialty vegetable, accumulated heavy metals primarily in the edible leaves. The general distribution of heavy metal concentrations in this plant species showed that the highest occurred in the leaves, intermediate in the stems and lowest in the roots. Cd had the highest concentration factor(root-to-soil ratio) and may pose increased health risks in the future to the local population through the consumption of contaminated vegetables.

The trends of distribution,translocation and seasonal change of heavy metal Pb were studied based on the surface and bottom water sampling in Jiaozhou Bay in 1979,and compared with those in 1990'*** results showed that the source of Pb in the bay was from wastewater and sewage in the east of Jiaozhou Bay from ocean *** concentration was higher in spring and lower in summer and autumn,and remained stable through sedimentation in the bottom *** overall water quality was good in 1970'*** with the environmental monitoring data of 1995-1999,Pb pollution had become ***,more efforts should be made to protect the bay from Pb pollution.

To provide effective environmental management for total amount control of atmospheric pollutants. Methods An atmospheric diffusion model of sulfur dioxide on the surface of the earth was established and tested in Shantou of Guangdong Province on the basis of an overall assessment of regional natural environment, social economic state of development, pollution sources and atmospheric environmental quality. Compared with actual monitoring results in a studied region, simulation values fell within the range of two times of error and were evenly distributed in the two sides of the monitored values. Predicted with the largest emission model method, the largest emission of sulfur dioxide would be 54 279.792 tons per year in 2010. Conclusion The mathematical model established and revised on the basis of GIS is more rational and suitable for the regional characteristics of total amount control of air pollutants.

Numerical Modeling of Dust Propagation in the Atmosphere of a City with Complex Terrain. The Case of Background Eastern Light Air

Micro-scale processes of dust distribution in the city of Tbilisi with very complex topography are modeled using a 3D regional model of atmospheric processes and numerical integration of the transport-diffusion equation of the impurity. The Terrain-following coordinate system is used to take into account the influence of a very complex relief on the process of atmospheric pollution. Modeling is carried out using horizontal grid steps of 300 m and 400 m along latitude and longitude, respectively. Cases of the stationary background eastern light air are considered. In the model, motor transport is considered as a nonstationary source of pollution from which dust is emitted into the atmosphere. Modeling of dust micro-scale diffusion process showed that the city air pollution depends on the spatial distribution of the main sources of city pollution, i.e. on vehicle traffic intensity, as well as on the spatial distribution of highways, and micro-orography of city and relief of the surrounding territories. It is shown that the dust pollution level in the surface layer of the atmosphere is minimal at 6 a.m. Ground-level concentration rapidly grows with the increase of vehicle traffic intensity and at 12 a.m. reaches maximum allowable concentration (MAC = 0.5 mg/m3) in the vicinity of central city mains. From 12 a.m. to 9 p.m. maximum dust concentration values are within the limits of 0.9 - 1.2 MAC. In the mentioned time interval formation of the high pollution zones, the slow growth of their areas and the value of ground-level concentrations take place. These zones are located in both central and peripheral parts of the city. Their disposition and area sizes depend on the spatial distribution of local wind-generated under the action of complex terrain, as well as on the processes of turbulent and advective dust transfer. Magnetic plant biomonitoring has been proven to be an effective tool in the assessment of air quality. Kuwait presents a unique environment due to its dry desert climatic conditions and prevailing dry deposition patterns that may affect accumulation rates of magnetic mineral particles. This study evaluated two widely distributed ornamental species, buttonwood (Conocarpus erectus) and palm (Phoenix dactylifera) for their effectiveness as biomagnetic monitors over three different land use classes (urban, suburban and industrial land classes). The differences between land use classes were classified by their proximity to major pollution sources as well as population density. Leaf sampling was conducted over various heights and distances from the nearest road. Total leaf saturated isothermal magnetization (SIRM), hard isothermal magnetization (HIRM), hard isothermal magnetization percentage (HIRM%) and s-ratio have been measured. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to analyze leaf surface micromorphology. It was determined that NRM values are similar for all land use classes and species, ranging from 0.3 to 0.5 μA. Palm leaf overall magnetic concentration was identified to be higher at the industrial land use class than at the urban land use class, indicating high coercivity minerals to magnetically dominate the land use classes. Additionally, total leaf SIRM was determined to be higher at short distances of 0 - 5 meters from the vicinity of the road. The surface rugosity of palm has deep ridges and furrows with ununiform wax projections across the leaf surface, while buttonwood has a smooth wax film with low relief. Differences in leaf micromorphology in addition to plant physiology, justify species magnetic parametric variances. Palm leaf had an average SIRM value that is 120% higher than buttonwood. Imitation models for computing the environmental water pollution level depending on the intensity of pollution sources created by the author over the years are presented. For this purpose, an additive model of a non-stationary random process is considered. For the modeling of its components, models that consider only dilution and self-purification processes are proposed for waste water and three-dimensional turbulent diffusion equations for river waters, and multidimensional Gaussian Markov series are proposed for modeling the random component. The purpose, the capabilities and the peculiarities of such imitation models are discussed taking into account the peculiarities of the water objects. The modular principle of creating imitation models is proposed to facilitate their development and use.
