＜正＞Pitting corrosion of the steel plates forming the hull and other major structural components of both commercial and naval ships can have a very considerable deteriorating effect on ship structural *** the paper,a series of nonlinear FEM analysis is carded out to investigate the effects of pits on the ultimate compressive strength of plates,where main influential factors of both plates and pits are researched in *** is found that the intensity of pits has significant impact on degradation of the ultimate capacity of plates among other factors,like size,depth of pits,slenderness of plate,***,in severely corrosive environment,thicker plates（smaller slenderness）may not bring about longer durability as *** work should be devoted to stochastic modeling of pits and its application in reliability analysis and maintenance policy making of marine structures.
