The investigation on sea-ice biology in combination with physics, chemistry and ecology was carried out in the northwestern Weddell Sea, Antarctica, during the cruise ANT/XX III-7 on board POLARSTERN in the austral winter （August-October） in 2006. The distribution of chlorophyll a was measured and related to sea ice texture. The mean concentrations of chlorophyll a in the sea ice varied considerably with ice texture. The concentration of chlorophyll a per core ranged from 2.10– 84.40 μg/dm ^3 with a mean of 16.56 μg/dm ^3 . And the value of R （chlorophyll a / gross chlorophyll） ranged from 0.79–0.83. These high winter chlorophyll values indicate that primary production is considerable and confirms that there is significant primary production in Antarctic sea ice during winter. Thus this constitutes a major proportion of southern ocean primary production and carbon flux before the sea ice retreats.

The synergistic effect of high voltage discharge non‐thermal plasma(NTP)and photocatalysts on contaminant removal has repeatedly confirmed by plenty of *** previous plasma‐photocatalyst synergistic systems focused on the utilization of the ultraviolet light but ignored the visible light generated by high voltage *** carbon nitride(g‐C3N4),a metal‐free semiconductor that exhibits high chemical stability,can utilize both the ultraviolet and visible light from high voltage ***,the synergistic system of NTP and g‐C3N4 has been researched *** this paper,the effect of NTP generated by dielectric barrier discharge(DBD)on g‐C3N4 is studied by comparing the photocatalytic activities,the surface physical structure and the surface chemical characteristics of pristine and plasma treated g‐*** results indicate that the DBD plasma can change the physical structure and the chemical characteristics and to further affect the photocatalytic activity of g‐*** effect of NTP on g‐C3N4 is associated with the discharge intensity and the discharge *** a long time scale,the effect of NTP on g‐C3N4 photocatalysts presents a periodic change trend.

The adsorption of dibenzofuran （DBF） on three commercial granular activated carbons （GAC） was investigated to correlate the adsorption equilibrium and kinetics with the morphological characteristics of activated carbons. Breakthrough experiment was conducted to determine the isotherm and kinetics of dibenzofuran on the activated carbons. All-the experiment runs were performed in a fixed bed with a process temperature of 368 K. The effects of adsorbent morphological properties on the kinetics of the adsorption process were studied. The equilibrium data are found satisfactory fitted to the Langmuir isotherm. An intraparticle diffusion model based on the obtained Langmuir isotherm was＇developed for predicting the fixed bed adsorption of dibenzofuran. The result indicated that this model fit all the breakthrough curves well. The surface diffusion coefficients of dibenzofuran on the activated carbon are calculated, and a relationship with the microporosity is found. As it was expected, the dibenzofuran molecule finds more kinetic restrictions for the diffusion in those carbons with narrower pore diameter.

The adsorption of dibenzofuran on three commercial granular activated carbons (ACs) was investigated by dynamic experiment to correlate the adsorption equilibrium and kinetics with the structure of activated *** properties including surface area, average pore diameter, micropore area and micropore volume of the activated carbons were characterized by N2 adsorption experiment on ASAP2010. To calculate the adsorption parameters, adsorption isotherm data were fitted to the Langmuir equation, and adsorption kinetic data were fitted to the linear driving force (LDF) diffusion model. From the correlation results, it is concluded that the adsorption equilibrium and diffusion coefficient of dibenzofuran on activated carbon are controlled respectively by the total adsorbent surface area and the adsorbent pore diameter.

In order to improve the performance of a pre-designed direct conversion terahertz detector which is implemented in a 0.25 μm-SiGe-BiCMOS process, we propose some slight modifications in the bipolar section of the SiGe device physical design. Comparison of our new proposed device and the previously reported device is done by SILVACO TCAD software simulation and we have used previous experimentally reported data to confirm our software simulations. Our proposed modifications in device structural design show a present device responsivity improvement of about 10% from 1 to 1.1 A/W while the bandwidth improvement is about 218 GHz. The minimum noise equivalent power at detector output is increased by about 14.3% and finally power consumption per pixel at the maximum responsivity is decreased by about 5%.

Comparative studies in method for stratigraphical structure measurement of ice cores: Identification of cloudy bands

Cloudy bands are typical stratigraphic structure in deep ice core. Detailed recording of cloudy bands is important for dating of ice core since pair of series cloudy band and clear layer is corresponds to annual layer and it sometimes corresponds to volcanic ash layer. We developed two type scanners, transmitted light method and laser tomograph method for the stratigraphic study. Measurements were carried out for NGRIP deep ice core, which containing many cloudy bands, using the two type scanners and digital camera. We discussed about the possibility of identification of cloudy bands by each method and about advantage and disadvantage of measurements and their results.
