The efficient development of new materials with defined properties requires fast methods of testing low volumes of material,such as a high-throughput investigation of spherical metallic micro samples with varying compositions and structuring treatments.A classical material testing method for macro samples,the tensile test cannot be employed for analyzing the mechanical properties of spherical samples with diameters below 1 mm since there are currently no methods for holding and stretching them.A combination between the incremental electrohydraulic extrusion as stress actuation unit and the speckle photography as strain measuring method is presented for obtaining the required mechanical characteristics.Positive longitudinal strain is generated at stepwise extrusion through10 μm.It is unknown,whether the speckle strain measuring method is able to provide the necessary low uncertainty for the required resolution in the whole measuring range.Therefore,theoretical and experimental investigations of the deformation measurability using the speckle correlation method are presented,showing that local displacements up to 10 μm can be measured with a spatial resolution between 3 and 10μm depending on the displacement size.The dominant effect influencing the measurement uncertainty for displacements at this high spatial resolution is the speckle noise,resulting into measurement uncertainties of less than 100 μm.Hence,speckle photography is shown to be applicable for tensile test on micro samples.

The role of color photography in the representation of architecture is a subject little investigated by architectural historiography.The link between the color values of architectural design and its visual transmission in the early phase of modernism was certainly problematic.Color photography had an undeniable impact on architectural color in practice:color photographs in books and periodicals published between the 1940s and 1960s clearly influenced the use of color in architectural design.

In recent years, with the spread of the internet and the booming auction markets, combined with our new age of so-called ＂picture-reading,＂ paintings and photographs concerning Qingjustice have overwhelmed our view. Scholars and nonscholars are attracted by them, and believe them to be showing real historical scenes. Pictures seemingly facilitate our grasp of the world more than mere facts do, but they actually demand readers＇ careful discrimination. The author of the present article has discovered that the initial British construction of a discourse about the cruelty of China＇s criminal punishments was related to this topic having been exposed by Chinese themselves. The seemingly real images or pictures have an unknown back story, and even contain a serious distortion of the truth. Such imagistic constructions by foreigners in fact directly or indirectly served the establishment and maintenance of foreign extraterritoriality in China. The living images recorded by foreigners＇ cameras not only constructed Western impressions of China and Chinese people as distant, thus strengthening contemporary Westerners＇ mental images of Chinese culture, but still urge us Chinese today to interpret the past in the light of such images. An icon of a blood-thirsty Qing legal system constructed through painting and photographic procedures became an objective fact, a collective consciousness that penetrated people＇s hearts and eventually led to modifications of those Qing laws. The mental construction of an icon influenced actual institutional movement.

Introduction The development and increasing popularity of dermoscopy in recent decades has helped dermatologists and primary care providers to improve the diagnosis of skin lesions,especially skin tumors,and more recently inflammatory lesions as well.Dermoscopy can now be used not only for diagnosis,but also to monitor the course of the disease and response to treatment for disorders as diverse as carcinomas,rosacea,psoriasis,lupus erythematosus,and porokeratosis[1].More recently still,teledermoscopy has expanded the reach of this useful technology,by using a digital dermoscope or standard digital camera with a dermoscopic lens attachment to capture images and send them to a teleconsultant.A variety of teledermoscopy platforms are available off the shelf,and can also be adapted to the organization's particular needs.

Architecture communication on photo-sharing social networking services like Instagram focuses on photorealism.Meanwhile,the conceptual intention or the experience of the architectural space has less impact in these media.Some architectural graphics techniques are closer to this purpose due to their nature.The main objective is to identify the visual qualities of the architectural space experience from a linear perspective.To do this,the research proposes the design of a visual pattern recognition tool and applies it to pairs of images(photography and drawing)from the same place.The results provide the strategy design based on five variables:the level of human presence,the distortion of perspective,the chromatic distortion,the overlay realism and the emphasis.Finally,the visual summaries lead to values that help to understand the communicative qualities of the experience of space due to their ability to compare main milestones of visual information.

This paper aims to provide a quantitative method that employs image processing in the assessment of surface roughness based on digital photograph field surveys, as in previous studies employing the outdoor integrated digital photography and image processing (O-IDIP) method. Digital photographs were taken on two different days under contrasting outdoor lighting conditions (overcast versus clear sky). Images were captured mounted on a tripod close up to the surface of a 380-year-old wall located at the University of Oxford Botanic Garden in the City of Oxford, UK. Sampling points were established at regular intervals along the border wall and encompassed sections facing west, north, and east, respectively along the survey. Two photographs were taken with a digital camera at each sampling point, one containing a color chart used to calibrate outdoor lighting conditions across images, which was excluded from the other photographic pair. Histogram-based quantification was performed based on images converted to Lab Color mode. The 10-step calibration procedure presented in this paper required more adjustments of contrast. However, more adjustments were not required under a clear sky. Std Dev L measurements were used to establish categories in a simple 3-point roughness index, namely the surface roughness index (SRI). The results denote that pitting did not affect surface roughness measurements. The study shows that it is possible to use Std Dev L measurements to quantify surface roughness on a comparative basis.
