＜正＞ A new phase unwrapping technique is proposed in this paper. This technique, based on the global continuity of the physical information being measured, is proved reliable by the analysis results of the experimental fringe patterns. Unlike the Brunch cuts method, this new algorithm needs not placing brunch cuts but revising the errors in the unwrapped phase map obtained by the conventional phase unwrapping method by using the least difference of the phase-cross-section. It works reliably for unwrapping phase map in the presence of variety errors such as noise, phase discontinuity more than n and insufficient sampling, etc. An obvious advantage of this method is that the criterion to detect the fault In phase jump involve the pixels far from the pixel being tested in stead of considering only the several neighboring pixels. The only requirement of this new method is that the first line （or column） of the wrapped phase map must be unwrapped correctly. The analysis results of the experiment fringe patterns proved that the new phase unwrapping method is not only directly applicable to noisy phase map but also simple and fast.
