Anxiety and perception among nurses toward the outbreak of COVID‑19 in University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Akwa Ibom State

Purpose:This study sought to examine the anxiety and perception of nurses toward the outbreak of COVID‑19 in University of Uyo Teaching Hospital(UUTH).Two research questions one hypothesis were used.What is the level of anxiety among nurses toward the outbreak of COVID‑19?What is the perception of nurses toward the outbreak of COVID‑19?The hypothesis states that there is no significant relationship between anxiety and perception of nurses toward the outbreak of COVID‑19.Literature was reviewed based on the research variables.Methods:The research instrument used in collecting the data for the analysis was a questionnaire administered to 100 nurses in UUTH,Uyo.Their responses were analyzed using frequencies,percentages,and Chi‑square analysis,and the following results were obtained.Results:The results indicated that 36(36%)of the respondents strongly agreed that most nurses perceive that poor provision of equipment’s in the hospital result into the transmission of COVID‑19 to another person,35(35%)agreed,20(20%)of the respondents strongly agreed,whereas 9(9%)of the respondents disagreed.Majority of the respondents 56(56%)strongly agreed that nurses sometimes perceive that patients sometimes harbor COVID‑19 without showing the symptoms.Conclusion:The above data,therefore,showed that nurses in UUTH,Uyo,had moderate perception toward COVID‑19.

The impact of locus of control and job type on the perception of autopsy among medical and nonmedical workers in University College Hospital,Ibadan,was investigated.Ninety‑two medical and 46 nonmedical workers from the hospital participated in the study.An ex post facto design was used.The Autopsy perception Scale and Locus of Control Scale were used as instruments.The t‑test result(t[136]=−2.03;Pperception of autopsy than those with an external locus of control;the t‑test result(t[136]=−2.29;Pperception of autopsy than nonmedical workers.However,the t‑test result(t[136]=−0.82;P>0.05)showed that there was no significant difference between workers who had had an autopsy conducted on their deceased relatives and those who had not.The results were discussed in line with existing literature.

We investigated the effects of heat stress on the responsiveness to vibrational cues,our measure of perceptual ability,in Myrmeleon bore antlion larvae(Neuroptera:Myrmeleontidae).We reared these trap-building predatory larvae under 2 heat stress regimes(mild,30°C,and harsh,36°C),and after they progressed from one instar stage to another,we tested their perceptual ability in common unchallenging conditions.We hypothesized that exposure to the harsh heat stress regime would impose costs resulting in handicapped vibration responsiveness.We found that the harsh heat stress regime generated more stressful conditions for the larvae,as evidenced by increased mortality and postponed molting,and the loss of body mass among larger larvae.Furthermore,among the individuals who remained alive,those originating from the harsh heat stress regime were characterized by higher vibration responsiveness.Our results suggest 2 not mutually exclusive scenarios.Costly heat stress conditions can sieve out individuals characterized by poor perceptual ability or surviving individuals can attempt to hunt more efficiently to compensate for the physiological imbalance caused by heat stress.Both of these mechanisms fit into the ongoing debate over how adaptation and plasticity contribute to shaping insect communities exposed to heat stress.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is not associated with a lower health perception

AIM: To examine the association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) and general health perception.METHODS: This cross sectional and prospective follow-up study was performed on a cohort of a subsample of the first Israeli national health and nutrition examination survey, with no secondary liver disease or history of alcohol abuse. On the first survey, in 2003-2004, 349 participants were included. In 2009-2010 participants from the baseline survey were invited to participate in a follow-up survey. On both baseline and follow-up surveys the data collected included: self-reported general health perception, physical activity habits, frequency of physician's visits, fatigue impact scale and abdominal ultrasound. Fatty liver was diagnosed by abdominal ultrasonography using standardized criteria and the ratio between the median brightness level of the liver and the right kidney was calculated to determine the Hepato-Renal Index.RESULTS: Out of 349 eligible participants in the first survey, 213 volunteers participated in the follow-up cohort and were included in the current analysis, NAFLD was diagnosed in 70/213(32.9%). The prevalence of "very good" self-reported health perception was lower among participants diagnosed with NAFLD compared to those without NAFLD. However, adjustment for BMI attenuated the association(OR = 0.73, 95%CI: 0.36-1.50, P = 0.392). Similar results were observed for the hepato-renal index; it was inversely associated with "very good" health perception but adjustment for BMI attenuated the association. In a full model of multivariate analysis, that included all potential predictors for health perception, NAFLD was not associated with the self-reported general health perception(OR = 0.86, 95%CI: 0.40-1.86, P = 0.704). The odds for "very good" self-reported general health perception(compared to "else") increased among men(OR = 2.42, 95%CI: 1.26-4.66, P = 0.008) and those with higher performance of leisure time physical activity(OR = 1.01, 95%CI: 1.00-1.01, P < 0.001, per every minute/wee

As a wearable and intelligent system, a lower limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robot can provide auxiliary rehabilitation training for patients with lower limb walking impairment/loss and address the existing problem of insufficient medical resources. One of the main elements of such a human–robot coupling system is a control system to ensure human–robot coordination. This review aims to summarise the development of human–robot coordination control and the associated research achievements and provide insight into the research challenges in promoting innovative design in such control systems. The patients’ functional disorders and clinical rehabilitation needs regarding lower limbs are analysed in detail, forming the basis for the human–robot coordination of lower limb rehabilitation robots. Then, human–robot coordination is discussed in terms of three aspects: modelling, perception and control. Based on the reviewed research, the demand for robotic rehabilitation, modelling for human–robot coupling systems with new structures and assessment methods with different etiologies based on multi-mode sensors are discussed in detail, suggesting development directions of human–robot coordination and providing a reference for relevant research.

In object detection,spatial knowledge assisted systems are effective.Object detection is a main and challenging issue to analyze object-related information.Several existing object detection techniques were developed to consider the object detection problem as a classification problem to perform feature selection and classification.But these techniques still face,less computational efficiency and high time consumption.This paper resolves the above limitations using the Fuzzy Tversky index Ontology-based Multi-Layer perception method which improves the accuracy of object detection with minimum time.The proposed method uses a multilayer forfinding the similarity score.A fuzzy membership function is used to validate the score for predicting the burned and non-burned zone.Experimental assessment is performed with different factors such as classification rate,time complexity,error rate,space complexity,and precision by using the forestfire dataset.The results show that this novel technique can help to improve the classification rate and reduce the time and space complexity as well as error rate than the conventional methods.

The Health Project—Community Health USAID is a community-based intervention that has been implemented by a group of NGOs, among which there is Africare, for a period of 5 years (2006-2011). It seeks to strengthen the community health system through a package of basic services offered at the health center, and as well as to improve the skills and knowledge of community actors. The main objective of this study is to capture the perceptions of beneficiaries and stakeholders about the services offered at the PSSC health posts located in the health district Goudomp. A qualitative cross-sectional study on the perception of the community of the USAID PSSC and quality of services offered by the health huts was conducted from the 2nd to 5th of May 2009 in the Goudomp health district. To achieve the objectives of this study, we conducted focus group discussions with all the community leaders and had individual interviews with the community health workers (CHWs) and the supervisor of the NGO Africare. From most of the discussions, it can be concluded that the activities of the health hut are not well known by the populations. The best known activities are those performed by the nurse: immunization and prenatal care. The existence of health huts at the community level was considered beneficial by all the community leaders. For the majority of the participants to the focus group discussions, the health huts “provided access to basic care”. Some participants, however, pointed out the “frequent drugs shortages” which, according to them, would explain the low attendance of the health huts in favor of the health post. The majority of CHWs and matrons felt that supervision activities were done on a regular basis. During the interviews, they mentioned many difficulties. However, the most common problem is the fact that the CHWs and the matron “who have no other source of income” were not salaried workers.
