Grain drying is a heat and mass transferring process in a multivariate-coupling, nonlinear, long-delay and unsteady state. A precise and practical control system is necessary for achieving the drying goals. Model predictive control system has been developed to an influential method on both theory and application as an optimized control strategy based on model prediction since the late 1970s. It’s especially effective in control multivariate, strong time variation and nonlinear system. Mathematics predictive model , data sampling and transferring mechanism , and progressive optimization strategy were developed to construct a kind of model predictive controller for paddy dryer. Grain deep-bed drying process analytical theory was applied to the moisture content distribution model to predict the future moisture content result according to history information and expected output. The dynamic real-time sampling of moisture contents and data stack saving routine were designed to transfer parameters to processing unit. Feedback compensation was adopted to modify the offset of measured and predicted outputs. It’s optimized in quadratic performance index function after comparing with the set value. Then the control value of next n sampling periods was obtained. And when the measured output values were returned to predictive model, the loops that were "prediction, optimization, execution, output, prediction", acted persistently. As a result, the controller could always supply current optimization control value no matter how much the control members and disturbance changed. The test results show that the control system can work accurately in dynamic temperature variation between –35°C and +40°C and moisture content variation between 8%wb and 35%wb. The ununiformity of output moisture content was less than 1%;the rice cracking increase was less than 3% and the offset of output to expected moisture content is less than ±0.5%wb. So this controller is reliable, stable and accurate

Effect of drying Methods on Moisture Distribution of paddy Rice

Variation during IR and heated-air drying process and effect on milling quality with moisture differenoe of paddy floe were investigated. The results indicate that the moisture SD （Standard Deviation） decreases during IR （Infrared RadiationS） and heated-alr （HA） drying process, and moisture uniform level for the paddy rice dried by IR treatment is higher than that by heated-air treatment. No matter IR or HA, the higher initial SD of MCs is, the bigger of the variable of the SDR value will be at the beginning stage of dried paddy storage.

A solar drum dryer was designed and constructed for paddy drying,including a fixed outer drum and inner perforated drum,which rotated at the desired rotational speed inside the outer *** maximum capacity of the dryer was 10000 *** rotational speed of the inner drum was *** thermal energy required for the dryer was provided by a solar absorber *** dryer per-formance was examined at three levels of rotational speed(0.21,0.42 and 0.84 r.p.m.),drum slope(1°,1.5°and 2°)and air velocity(1.7,1.8 and 1.9 m.s^(-1)).The diameter of the drum was the geometrical parameter that affected the movement of the particles and the ratio of the particle diameter to the drum diameter changed with the change in the drum ***,increasing the diameter of the drum caused a reduction in the repose angle of the paddy without any effect on the filling *** displacement of the product along the drum increased with increasing slope and rotational *** the lowest air velocity,the time required to remove moisture(paddy dried by the drum dryer at 43-46℃ compared with those dried using a batch *** highest stress-cracking index(11)was observed for the paddy with an initial moisture of 16%.The results showed that for proportional final moisture content,a longer drum should be considered to intensify the slope and rotational speed of the inner drum.
