Conditions for formation and trapping of the two-ion Coulomb cluster in the dissipative optical superlattice

Conditions have been studied under which a polychromatic optical superlattice can form and trap the Coulomb cluster of two strongly interacting ions. In our previous work （Krasnov I V and Kamenshchikov L P 2014 Opt. Comm. 312 192） this new all-optical method of obtaining and confining the Coulomb clusters was demonstrated by numerical simulations for special values of the optical superlattice parameters and in the case of Yb ions. In the present paper the conditions are explicitly formulated, under which the long-lived two-ion cluster in the superlattice cell is formed. The peculiarity of these conditions is the renormalization of the ion-ion Coulomb interaction. Notably, the renormalized Coulomb force is determined by the effective charge which depends on the light field parameters and can strongly differ from the ＂bare＂ ion charge. This result can be accounted for by the combined manifestation of the quantum fluctuations of optical forces, nonlinear dependence of these forces on the velocity, and non-Maxwellian （Tsallis type） velocity distribution of the ions in the optical superlattice. Explicit analytical formulas are also obtained for the parameters of the optical two-ion cluster.

Laser-induced assembly is a promising technology for advancing micro/nano photonic ***,the dynamic process and the photothermal interaction in laser-induced assembly technique,as well as the role of laser illumination pattern on the assembly structure have not been well *** this paper,we prepare dark MoSe_(2) nanospheres with a facile solvothermal synthesis method and grow a concentric ring-shaped assembly with incident light following Fresnel circular-aperture *** impact of the illumination light filed on the structure of the assembly is *** concentric ring-shaped assembly reveals focusing effect with about 4.87 times intensity *** trap effect,photothermal effect,and tension effect are proved to synergistically enhance the trap stiffness and broaden trap *** work gives an insight into the production of laser induced assembly,hence broadens the potential application of nanoparticles and assembly in micro-optics and photonic devices.

We quantify the mean potential energy of a passive colloidal particle harmonically confined in a bacterial solution using optical *** find that the average potential energy of the passive particle depends on the trap stiffness,in contrast to the equilibrium case where energy partition is independent of the external *** constraint dependence of the mean potential energy originates from the fact that the persistent collisions between the passive particle and the active bacteria are influenced by the particle relaxation *** experimental results are consistent with the Brownian dynamics simulations,and confirm the recent theoretical prediction.

Receptor-ligand bond dissociation under applied force is crucial to elucidate its biological functionality when the molecular bond is usually connected to a mechanical probe. While the impact of probe stiffness, k, on bond rupture force has recently at- tracted more and more attention, the mechanism of how it affects the bond lifetime, however, remains unclear. Here we quanti- fied the dissociation lifetime of selectin-ligand bond using an optical trap assay with low stiffness ranging from 3.5×10^-3 to 4.7×10^-2 pN/nm. Our results indicated that bond lifetime yielded distinct distributions with different probe stiffness, implying the stochastic feature of bond dissociation. It was also found that the mean lifetime varied with probe stiffness and that the catch bond nature was visualized at k≥3.0×10^-2 pN/nm. This work furthered the understanding of the forced dissociation of se- lectin-ligand bond at varied probe stiffness, which is physiologically relevant to the tethered rolling of leukoeytes under blood flow.

In this article, the dynamical process of the dielectric particle in the optical tweezer using the counter-propagating Gaussian pulses is investigated by the Langevin equation concerning the Brownian motion. The temporal stabilities of particle is simulated. The influence of the duration, repetition period and delay time between pulses on stability is discussed.

The partially coherent beams propagating through random media have been used in the past to enhance effect of nonlinear optical interaction. Moreover, after propagation through a random （or turbulent） medium the coherent beam becomes a partially coherent one. In this research, the analytical formula for the average intensity of Gaussian beam propagating through random medium is derived and the influence of coherent partiality on optical gradient force acting on dielectric particle rounded by a random media is investigated.
