Utilizing polarization maintaining photonic crystal fiber(PM-PCF)with the low temperature coefficient of birefringence,a two-dimensional tunable and temperature-insensitive Lyot filter aiming to compensate the frequency modulation to amplitude modulation(FM-to-AM)conversion in high power laser facility is *** Jones matrix is applied to analyze the relationship between optical characteristics of the filter and physical parameters(including amplitude ratio,phase delay,and susceptibility of the birefringence to temperature)of the polarization optical *** the transmission peak wavelength and extinction ratio of the spectral transmission are able to be changed simultaneously,hence,it shows more efficient FM-to-AM compensation ***,the transmission peak shift is about 18pm/°C with the PM-PCF configuration,which is about two orders of magnitude less than the normal polarization maintaining fiber(PMF)*** demonstrated filter presents a practical application potential in large scale laser driven facility.

A novel type of sampled fiber Bragg gratings （FBGs） written in polarization-maintaining fiber （PMF） is proposed. The reflection spectrum, time delay, and group velocity dispersion （GVD） of the gratings are analyzed. In addition, the reflection spectrum is optimized by apodization. The scheme of multi-wavelength output based on the gratings is proposed, which could be used as a multi-wavelength polarization filter in the density wavelength division multiplexed （DWDM） system.

In this letter, we propose a voltage-controlled optical filter based on electrowetting. The device is made of a transparent cubic cell filled with two immiscible liquids having three indium tin oxide electrodes fabricated on the bottom substrate of the cell. A conductive droplet carrying a color filter is placed on the ITO electrode and the surrounding liquid is density-matched silicone oil. Under zero bias, the droplet is placed in the middle of tile substrate and white light passes through the filter and we can see red light on the screen. When a voltage is applied to the device, the filter moves with the liquid based on electrowetting effect, we can see the white light on the screen. Due to the movement of the liqnid, our device functions as an optical switcher. The switch trine of the device is -70 ms. The proposed device has a wide application in optical communication. electronic display, and optical switch.

We demonstrate a narrowband optical filter which operates on the 52S1/2 to 52P3/2 transition at 780 nm in rubidium vapor based on optical-pumping-induced dichroism combined with Faraday anomalous dispersion effects. Its peak transmission is 18.4（2）% at the 52S1/2, F = 2 to 5^2P3/2, F＇ = 1, 3 crossover transition, whereas at the 5^2S1/2, F = 2 to 5^2P3/2, F＇ = 2, 3 crossover transition the transmission is 18.6（2）%. Both transitions have a bandwidth （full-width at half-maximum of peak transmission） as narrow as 24.5（8） MHz, which is remarkably improved compared with the narrowest bandwidth as we know. We report on the experimental and numerical investigations of an all-optical network interface from back- bone networks to local area networks based on semiconductor optical amplifiers （SOAs）. All-optical signals at 40 Gbps with return-to-zero （RZ） format in backbone networks are demultiplexed to signals at 10 Gbps with nonreturn-to-zero （NRZ） format in local area networks. SOAs and optical band-pass filters are used in the optical interface. We study the waveform, optical spectrum, and bit error rate （BER） of the interface scheme based on the experimental and numerical simulation results. The interface technique can be used in variable length and bit-rate variable optical networks.

A demultiplexing scheme based on semiconductor optical amplifier（SOA）and optical filter for optical time division multiplexing differential quadrature phase shift keying（OTDM-DQPSK）system is proposed and investigated *** only a common half baudrate electrical clock modulated 33%duty cycle return-to-zero（RZ-33）optical clock signal as pump,this scheme is cost-effective,energy-efficient,and integration-potential.A proof-of-concept experiment is carried out for the demultiplexing of a 2×40-GBd OTDM-DQPSK ***-free performance is demonstrated,and the average power penalty for both channels is about 3 dB.

Free-spectral-range(FSR)-free optical filters have always been a critical challenge for photonic integrated circuits.A high-performance FSR-free filter is highly desired for communication,spectroscopy,and sensing *** significant progress in integrated optical filters,the FSR-free filter with a tunable narrow-band,high out-of-band rejection,and large fabrication tolerance has rarely been *** this paper,we propose an exact and robust design method for add-drop filters(ADFs)with an FSR-free operation capability,a sub-nanometer optical bandwidth,and a high out-of-band rejection(OBR)*** achieved filter has a 3-dB bandwidth of<0.5 nm and an OBR ratio of 21.5 dB within a large waveband of 220 nm,which to the best of our knowledge,is the largest-FSR ADF demonstrated on a silicon photonic *** filter exhibits large tunability of 12.3 nm with a heating efficiency of 97 pm/mW and maintains the FSR-free feature in the whole tuning *** addition,we fabri-cated a series of ADFs with different periods,which all showed reliable and excellent performances.

We have theoretically simulated the optical properties of perturbed chiral STF （sculptured thin film） with and without defect. It was revealed that such STFs could act as band-reject filters with tunable Bragg regime of free space wavelengths and different bandwidth through changing the vapor incident angle during glancing angle deposition process. These Bragg filters are narrowing due to the change of vapor incident angle for circularly polarized light. Interestingly, as the vapor incident angle increased, the band-rejected filter exhibited to decrease the bandwidth and shifted in the Bragg regime, indicating that such STF nanostructures have high potential for behaving as unique polarization insensitive Bragg mirror.
