A comparative study on characteristics of retracted publications across different open access levels

Purpose:Recently,global science has shown an increasing open trend,however,the characteristics of research integrity of open access(OA)publications have rarely been *** aim of this study is to compare the characteristics of retracted articles across different OA levels and discover whether OA level influences the characteristics of retracted ***/methodology/approach:The research conducted an analysis of 6,005 retracted publications between 2001 and 2020 from the Web of Science and Retraction Watch *** publications were categorized based on their OA levels,including Gold OA,Green OA,and *** study explored retraction rates,time lags and reasons within these ***:The findings of this research revealed distinct patterns in retraction rates among different OA *** with Gold OA demonstrated the highest retraction rate,followed by Green OA and non-OA.A comparison of retraction reasons between Gold OA and non-OA categories indicated similar proportions,while Green OA exhibited a higher proportion due to falsification and manipulation issues,along with a lower occurrence of plagiarism and authorship *** retraction time lag was shortest for Gold OA,followed by non-OA,and longest for Green *** prolonged retraction time for Green OA could be attributed to an atypical distribution of retraction reasons.A comparative study on characteristics of retracted publications across different open access levels Research limitations:There is no exploration of a wider range of OA levels,such as Hybrid OA and Bronze *** implications:The outcomes of this study suggest the need for increased attention to research integrity within the OA *** occurrences offalsification,manipulation,and ethical concerns within Green OA publications warrant attention from the scientific ***/value:This study contributes to the understanding of research integrity in the realm of OA publications,she

Contribution of the open access Modality to the Impact of Hybrid Journals Controlling by Field and Time Effects

Cost of open access publishing in otolaryngology‐head and neck surgery

Objective:open access(OA)publishing makes research more accessible but is associated with steep article processing charges(APCs).The study objective was to characterize the APCs of OA publishing in otolaryngology‐head and neck surgery(OHNS)***:We conducted a cross‐sectional analysis of published policies of 110 OHNS journals collated from three *** primary outcomes were the publishing model,APC for original research,and APC waiver ***:We identified 110 OHNS journals(57 fully OA,47 hybrid,2 subscription‐only,4 unknown model).After excluding 12 journals(2 subscription‐only,4 unknown model,5 OA with unspecified APCs,and 1 OA that accepts publications only from society members),we analyzed 98 journals,23 of which did not charge *** 75 journals with nonzero APCs,the mean and median APCs were$2452 and$2900(interquartile range:$1082–3520).Twenty‐five journals(33.3%)offered APC subsidies for authors in low‐and middle‐income countries(LMICs)and/or on a case‐by‐case ***‐five and 25 journals were based in high‐income countries(HICs)and LMICs,*** mean APC was higher among HIC journals than LMIC journals($2606 vs.$958,p<0.001).Conclusion:APCs range from tens to thousands of dollars with limited waivers for authors in LMICs.

Defining an open access resource strategy for research libraries:Part Ⅱ——Challenges and responses

Purpose: This paper aims to provide a systematic analysis of challenges and responses of the imminent open access-based environment so as to enable sound development of open access(OA) resource ***/methodology/approach: A systematic and evidence-based analysis is used to discover, identify, and contextualize the factors that relate or interact. A challenge metric for the overall context and additional frameworks or alternative lists is used for the detailed ***: Research libraries are facing a reality conflict between the traditional library solution and the OA solution. New resource strategies are needed but have to be based on an open knowledge infrastructure and a systematic analysis of factors and alternatives. Support for OA publishing is becoming a major task and complicated capabilities involved call for libraries to play a central role. Hybrid collection development should be in place to take full advantages of the open world while ensuring reliable and trusted retrieval, reuse, and *** limitations: The research covers main developments in US and European countries mostly in scientific fields and for scholarly *** implications: There are already evidences for sound OA resource policies. With the imminent dominance of OA resources, research libraries should and can set up their OA resource ***/value: The paper suggests a factor metric as an analysis framework, presents rationale lists and policies to support OA publishing, and proposes a hybrid collection strategy to plan for collection development, retrieval, and preservation.

Implementing open access Policy:First case studies

When implementing open access, policy pioneers and flagship institutions alike have faced considerable challenges in meeting their own aims and achieving a recognized success. Legitimate authority, sufficient resources and the right timing are crucial, but the professionals charged with implementing policy still need several years to accomplish significant progress. This study defines a methodological standard for evaluating the first generation of open access policies. Evaluating implementation establishes evidence, enables reflection, and may foster the emergence of a second generation of open access *** the study is based on a small number of cases, these case studies cover most of the pioneer institutions, present the most significant issues and offer an international *** case is reconstructed individually on the basis of public documents and background information, and supported by interviews with professionals responsible for open access implementation. This article presents the highlights from each case study. The results are utilized to indicate how a second generation of policies might define open access as a key component of digital research infrastructures that provide inputs and outputs for research,teaching and learning in real time.

Defining an open access resource strategy for research libraries:Part Ⅰ—The coming main streamlization of open access resources?

open access(OA) resources are becoming a main part of scholarly information. The paper summarizes the fast growth of OA journals and OA repositories, the outstanding OA journal impact increase, the rise of mega-OA journals like PLoS ONE, the overwhelming support of research communities to open access of publicly funded research, and the quick building up of OA support structures. These forces work together to push scholarly communications toward a turning point where OA resources occupy a major and increasing share of scholarly research resources and when management of OA resources becomes a strategic, yet unfamiliar, and potentially disruptive task for research libraries. This paper is composed of two parts. The first part will focus on the development of OA resources, while the second part will analyze the challenges in management of OA resources and develop an OA resource strategy exemplified by some of NSL's initiatives.

An analysis on domestic users' awareness towards open access resources:A case study of university users in Nanjing
