Objective:To evaluate the antidiabetic and antioxidant potential of Emblica officinalis(***)fruit on normal and type 2 diabetic ***:Type 2 diabetes was induced into the male Long-Evans *** rats were divided into nine groups including control groups receiving water,type 2 diabetic controls,type 2 diabetic rats treated with glibenclamide(T2GT)and type 2diabetic rats treated with aqueous extract of fruit pulp of *** were fed orally for8 weeks with a single *** was collected by cutting the tail tip on 0 and 28 days and by decapitation on 56 *** red blood cells and serum were used for evaluating different biochemical ***:Four weeks administration of aqueous extract of *** improved oral glucose tolerance in type 2 rats and after 8 weeks it caused significant(P<0.007)reduction in fasting serum glucose level compared to 0 *** decreased by 14%but there was no significant change in serum ALT,creatinine,cholesterol and insulin level in any ***,reduced erythrocyte malondialdehyde level showed no significant change(P<0.07)but reduced glutathione content was found to be increased significantly(P<0.05).Conclusions:The aqueous extract of *** has a promising antidiabetic and antioxidant properties and may be considered for further clinical studies in drug development.

Scindapsus of ficinalis(S. officinalis) holds a reputed position in Ayurvedic system of medicine. It has been ethanobotanically used to treat diarrhea("atisara"), worm infestation("krmiroga"), and as antipyretic. Literature survey on S. officinalis was carried out via electronic search in Pub Med, Sci Finder, Scirus, Google Scholar, Agricola and Web of Science and a library search. Results revealed that a very specific botanical description of the plant is still not available. The plant is mistaken within the hybrids and other plants of genus Scindapsus and family Araceae. Since ethnobotanically the plant is of much importance, chemistry of the plant yet needs to be fully explored. Thus the need of the hour is to comprehend the fragmented information available on the botany, traditional uses, phytochemistry and pharmacology of S. officinalis which could help in the correct identification of the sample and avoid adulteration due to mistaken identity.

Objective:To explore antibacterial activity and characterization of secondary metabolites isolated from mangrove plant Avicennia officinalis(***).Methods:In the present study the leaf extracts of *** were examined for its antibacterial potential using five different solvents against some reference strains of human pathogenic bacteria for the crude *** activity was observed for ethyl acetate and hence different concentrations like 15μL,25μL,and 50μL of ethyl extracts was checked for its antibacterial *** purification of crude extract was carried by column chromatography and fractions were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) to identify ***:The crude ethyl acetate extracts of *** showed remarkable antibacterial activity with zones of inhibition of 13 mm against Eschericia coli(***) and 11 mm against Staphylococcus aureus (***).Fraction 13(ethyl acetate:methanol= 8:2) as the most potent one against with the minimal inhibitory concentration of 30 mm against *** and 25 mm against *** GCMS resultsof active column fraction(F13) revealed that the active principals were a mixture of hydroxy- 4 methoxybenzoic acid,diethyl phthalate,oleic ***:The leaf extracts with proven antibacterial effects can clearly be directed towards cancer treatment as to inhibiting cancer cell *** limited number of test organisms owes to a constraint of ***,the effect of strong bursts of leaf extracts on human pathogenic bacteria should further be tested on a wide range of test organisms.

Objective:To evaluate the antibacterial activity of Emblica officinalis Gaertn(***: Family:Euphorbiaceae) seed and Nymphae odorala Aiton(***:Family:Nymphaeaceae) stamen extracts,alone and in combination,and in combination with amoxicillin(Ax) against Staphylococcus aureus(***).Methods:Antibacterial activity of ethanolic extracts of amla,***,seed(AMS:500μg) and sapla,***,stamen(SAP:500 p g) for 12 methicillin-resistant ***(MRSA) isolates was determined following agar diffusion:in order to assess the combined antibacterial activity,AMS(250μg) plus SAP(250μg) were *** Ax(10μg) activity alone and in combination with AMS(250μg),and SAP(250μg) was determined by disk *** zone diameters of inhibition(ZDIs) for the agents were recorded,and growth inhibitory indices(GIIs) were ***:The MRSA isolates (n=12) had AMS(500μg) and SAP(500μg) ZDIs of 12-19 mm and 21-24 mm,*** ZDIs(range 24-27 mm) increased by 3-4 mm due to combined action of AMS(250μg) and SAP(250μg) indicating synergy between extracts for MRSA(GII 0.634-0.742).The MRSA isolates were resistant to Ax(ZDI:8-11 mm),which in combination with AMS and SAP had synergistic effect,both due to increased ZDI[mean±SD=(3.5±0.577) mm]and GII(0.631-0.894).Conclusions:The data suggest that the plants,*** and *** alone or in combination,are promising in the development of phytomedicines,which may be used,alone or in combination with the antibiotic. Ax,against MRSA infection.

The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effects of dried powder of Calendula ojficinalis L.(marigold)flower as an antibiotic growth promoter substitute on growth performance,organ weights,and immunological parameters in broilers.A total of 240 mixed sex broilers(Ross 308)at 1 d of age were individually weighed and randomly assigned to 4 treatments with 4 replicates of 15 birds for 6 *** dietary treatments were:1)a basal diet(control);2)control plus 4.5 mg flavophospholipol/kg of diet;3)control plus 5 g marigold/kg of diet;4)control plus 10 g marigold/kg of *** responses against Newcastle(NDV),influenza(AI)viruses,and sheep red blood cells(SRBC)were *** 4.5 mg flavophospholipol/kg of diet enhanced body weight(BW)of broilers at 14 and 28 d of age(P<0.05),but final BW at 42 d was not markedly *** 14 and 28 d of age,broilers fed diets supplemented with 10 g marigold/kg of diet had significantly lower BW compared with broilers fed the basal diet supplemented with antibiotic or 5 g marigold/kg of *** the starter period,broilers fed diets supplemented with antibiotic had significantly(P<0.05)better FCR compared with broilers supplemented with 10 g marigold/kg of diet,but did not differ from broilers fed the basal diet or basal diet supplemented with 5 g marigold/kg of *** were no significant differences in FCR between treatments,during grower,finisher phases as well as for the whole *** yield was significantly(P<0.05)higher in broilers supplemented with 5 g marigold/kg of diet compared with broilers in other *** treatments failed to induce any marked effect on immune *** conclusion,the results of this experiment showed that supplementation of 5 and 10 g dried powder of marigold/kg of diet has no affirmative influence on growth performance of broilers.

Objective: To investigate the in vitro antiproliferative action of essential oil from Salvia officinalis L.(S. officinalis) grown in Sicily(Italy), and its main components on hormone-dependent cancer cell lines. Methods: S. officinalis essential oil was prepared by hydrodistillation. The actions of the S. officinalis essential oil and its three principal components(毩-thujone, 1,8-cineole and camphor) were evaluated in LNCaP cells(prostate carcinoma), MCF7 cells(breast carcinoma) and He La cells(cervical carcinoma) at various dosages and diverse time points. Cell viability and proliferation were estimated using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. Results: S. officinalis essential oil at doses of 100 μg/m L and 200 μg/m L induced a significant reduction of cell viability in MCF7, LNCa P and He La cell lines after a 48-hour incubation. The same cell lines also showed decreased cell viability when they were treated with a mixture of three major components of the essential oil, at doses of 100 μg/mL and 200 μg/mL, after a 48-hour incubation. Conclusions: These preliminary results could shed light on the formulation of new therapeutic agents with antiproliferative activity. Thus supplementary investigations are fundamental to examine the molecular mechanisms of the anticancer effects of this species of Salvia in cancer cells and to achieve confirmation of its in vivo anticancer activity.

Objective: To determine the phytochemical characterization and antibacterial activity of Melissa oi cinalis essential oil against bacteria responsible for nosocomial ***: The phytochemical characterization of essential oil was evaluated using gas chromatography-flame ionization detector and gas chromatography-mass spectrometer analysis. Antibacterial activity of the oil was tested against four bacterial strains responsible for nosocomial infections: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus and Citrobacter koseri using disc dif usion ***: Thirty three components were identified representing 89.30% of the total oil composition. The yield of essential oil was 0.4% and the predominant components were citronellal(14.40%), isogeraniol(6.40%), geraniol acetate(10.20%), nerol acetate(5.10%), caryophyllene(8.10%) and β-caryophyllene oxide(11.00%). Antibacterial activity of the oil showed the higher activity against all bacterial strains ***: The essential oil extracted from lemon balm can be used to clean the environment of reanimation polyvalent and anesthesia service.

Objective:To determine the anticandidal activities of Salvia officinalis L.(***)essential oil against Candida albicans(***)and the inhibitory effects on the adhesion of *** to polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)resin ***:Disc diffusion method was first used to test the anticandidal activities of the *** *** oil against the reference strain(ATCC 90028)and 2 clinical strains of *** the minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimal lethal concentration(MLX)were determined by modified membrane *** adhesion of *** to PMMA resin surface was assessed after immersion with *** *** oil at various concentrations of 1XMIC.0.5XMIC and 0.25XMIC at room temperature for30 ***-way ANOVA was used to compare the Candida cell adhesion with the pretreatment agents and Tukey's test was used for multiple ***:*** *** oil exhibited anticandidal activity against all strains of *** with inhibition zone ranging from 40.5 mm to 19.5 *** MIC and MLC of the oil were determined as 2.780 g/L against all test *** to the effects on *** adhesion to PMMA resin surface,it was found that immersion in the essential oil at concentrations of 1XMIC(2.780 g/L).0.5XMIC(1.390 g/L)and0.25XMIC(0.695 g/L)for 30 min significantly reduced the adhesion of all 3 test strains to PMMA resin surface in a dose dependent manner(P<0.05).Conclusions:*** *** oil exhibited anticandidal activities against *** and had inhibitory effects on the adhesion of the cells to PMMA resin *** further testing and development,*** essential oil may be used as an antifungal denture cleanser to prevent candidal adhesion and thus reduce the risk of candida-associated denture stomatitis.
