Introduction: Growth is a reflection of a child’s health and nutritional status. Children with sickle cell disease often have slower statural and weight development. The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional profile of children with sickle cell disease (SCD) registered in the CEMECO centre database. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study with simple random sampling of children aged 1 to 16 years registered in the clinic database. Results: We collected information on 208 children, 121 of whom had sickle cell disease and 87 of whom were normal, with a sex ratio of 1.02. The mean age of the sickle cell patients was 8.7 ± 4.4 years, while that of the non-sickle cell patients was 9.5 ± 4 years. Haemoglobin electrophoresis revealed 103 homozygous (SS), 18 double heterozygous (SC, SBetaThal, SE) and 87 normal (AA) and/or sickle cell trait (AS) sickle cell cases. We observed a significant difference in the height/age ratio (P ¥). Conclusion: The results of our study revealed stunted growth in children with sickle cell disease.

BACKGROUND nutrition is a significant modifiable element that influences the composition of the gastrointestinal microbiota,implying the possibility of therapeutic diet methods that manipulate the composition and diversity of the microbial.AIM To overview research papers on nutrition and gut microbiota and determines the hotspots in this field at the global level.METHODS Scopus and Reference Citation Analysis were used to construct a bibliometric technique.It was decided to create bibliometric indicators and mapping as in most previous studies.2012 through 2021 served as the study's timeframe.RESULTS A total of 5378 documents from the Scopus database were selected for analysis.Of all retrieved studies,78.52%were research papers(n=4223),followed by reviews(n=820;15.25%).China ranked first with a total number of articles of 1634(30.38%),followed by the United States in second place with a total number of articles of 1307(24.3%).In the last decade,emerging hotspots for gut microbiota and nutrition research included"gut microbiota metabolism and interaction with dietary components","connection between the gut microbiota and weight gain",and"the influence of high-fat diet and gut microbiota on metabolic disorders".CONCLUSION This is the first thorough bibliometric analysis of nutrition and gut microbiota publications conducted on a global level.Investigation of the association between nutrition/diet and the gut microbiota is still in its infancy and will be expanded in the future.However,according to recent trends,the"effect of gut microbiota and high-fat diet on metabolic disorders"will be an increasing concern in the future.

BACKGROUND Crohn’s disease represents a challenge for patients concerned with the modified diet regimen as well as practitioners who seek the best nutritional therapy.Crohn’s disease can alter the body’s ability to digest food and to absorb nutrients,resulting in severe vitamin deficiencies,malnutrition and sometimes lifethreatening complications.However,a comprehensive bibliometric analysis is lacking to map the current links between nutrition and Crohn’s disease in terms of the number of citations,geographic distribution and growth trends of publications.AIM To introduce the current state of research as well as hotspots in the field of nutrition and Crohn’s disease from a bibliometric standpoint.METHODS We searched the Scopus database and selected the relevant literature on nutrition and Crohn’s disease that met the inclusion criteria.We analyzed the publication trends and research hotspots by using video object segmentation viewer software.RESULTS We included 1237 publications.The number of documents published each year has increased steadily.The United States and the University of Otago,Christchurch,have had the highest productivity,with 208(16.81%)and 29(2.34%)documents,respectively.The“role of exclusive enteral nutrition for complicated Crohn’s disease”and“manipulation of the gut microbiota as a key target for Crohn’s disease”were the major research areas in 2016-2021,and they could be extensively investigated in the future.Meanwhile,research on“malnutrition in patients with Crohn’s disease”appeared to be an area that attracted more research attention before 2016.CONCLUSION This is the first bibliometric analysis to map the knowledge structure and trends regarding nutrition in Crohn’s disease research over the past two decades.The results provide a comprehensive summary and identification of the frontiers of nutrition and Crohn’s disease-related research,which may be used as a resource by researchers in the field.

"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food"—the ancient adage proposed by Greek philoso-pher Hippocrates of Kos thousands of years ago al-ready acknowledged the importance of the beneficial and health-promoting effects of food nutrients on the body(Mafra et al.,2021).Recent epidemiological and large-scale community studies have also reported that unhealthy diets or eating habits may contribute heavily to the burden of chronic,non-communicable diseases,such as obesity,type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),hypertension,cardiovascular disease(CVD),cancer,neurodegenerative diseases,arthritis,chronic kidney disease(CKD),and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)(Jayedi et al.,2020;Gao et al.,2022).Emerging evidence highlights that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can prevent various chronic diseases(Chen et al.,2022).Food bioactive compounds includ-ing vitamins,phytochemicals,and dietary fibers are responsible for these nutraceutical benefits.

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal tumors are a major cause of cancer-related deaths and have become a major public health problem.This study aims to provide a scientific basis for improving clinical treatment effects,quality of life,and prognosis of patients with gastrointestinal tumors.AIM To explore the clinical effect of the multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment(MDT)nutrition intervention model on patients with gastrointestinal tumors.METHODS This was a case control study which included patients with gastrointestinal tumors who received radiotherapy at the Department of Oncology between January 2021 and January 2023.Using a random number table,120 patients were randomly divided into MDT and control groups with 60 patients in each group.To analyze the effect of MDT on the nutritional status and quality of life of the patients,the nutritional status and quality of life scores of the patients were measured before and after the treatment.RESULTS Albumin(ALB),transferrin(TRF),hemoglobin(Hb),and total protein(TP)levels significantly decreased after the treatment.The control group had significantly lower ALB,TRF,Hb,and TP levels than the MDT group,and the differences in these levels between the two groups were statistically significant(Pnutritional intervention model effectively improves the nutritional status and quality of life of the patients.The study provides a rigorous theoretical basis for improving the prognosis of cancer patients.In the future,we intend to provide additional treatment methods for improving the quality of life of patients with cancer.

Agro-Morphology Evaluation and Gluten Content Estimation of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in the Western Highland of Cameroon

Agriculture is amongst the major occupations in Cameroon where over 70% of citizens are involved and it contributes enormously to the economy of the country. Wheat is one of the most consumed cereals in Cameroon with very high importation rate. However, the adoption of wheat production in the cropping system could have the potential to pull farmers out of poverty. It is essential in human foods and animal feeds. This study aims to investigate on the adaptability of wheat varieties based on growth traits and yield as well as to estimate the gluten content in each of the tested variety in the North-West region. Eight wheat varieties (five from CIMMYT, two from IRAD and one local variety) were evaluated in a factorial design with two types of fertilization (organic and inorganic), in two site (Santa and UBa farm) and five environments. Agro-morphological data were collected and were subjected to the analysis of variance using R software. The gluten content related to the baking quality of wheat flour was estimated per tested variety. Highly significant differences were observed among varieties, sites, environment and fertilization for all parameters estimated. The general mean of all the traits evaluated was significantly higher when using organic fertilizer than inorganic, meaning that the application of organic fertilizer provides better performance of wheat growth. The elevated number of tillers found in Santa could inform on the high level of soil fertility for wheat production in that area. Environment 1 was found to be the best follow by environment 3 and 5. IRAD I gave the highest yield followed by Alexander Wonder and IRAD II. 11SATYND and 29SAWYT were promising introduced varieties in term of grain weight when using organic fertilization. Wet and dry gluten yield varied from 3.8 (ALEXANDER Wonder) to 5.5 (IRAD I) and from 3.7 (IRAD II) to 7.9 (IRAD I) respectively. Purpose: Diet and eating habits are major risk factors for the health and the development of disease, such as, for example, metabolic disorder leading to cardiovascular pathology and cancer, decreased immunity exposing to infections. This study of the physico-chemical and nutritional properties of a soumara-based food broth was carried out with the aim of promoting the consumption of organic broth made from nere seeds (soumara). That is to alleviate certain metabolic diseases, which is a matter of food safety, and also to limit the risk for the health about the consumption of some cooking stocks on the market. Methods: Several natural ingredients such as nere seeds (soumara), ginger, black pepper, parsley and garlic were used to create a nere-based stock. All these ingredients were freeze-dried and the powder obtained was used to make the broth, regarding their physical and chemical properties. Results: The broth had a good protein content of 17.41 ± 0.367 g/100g, a lipid content of 16.80 ± 0.08 g/100g and a fiber content of 8.66 ± 0.04 g/100g. In terms of nutritional values, the broth showed good levels of calcium 184.21 ± 0.09 mg/100g, potassium 50.04 ± 1.45 mg/100g and iron and zinc. In terms of antioxidant activity, the broth also showed good antioxidant activity. Conclusion: Regarding the properties of our food broth, whose composition is based on natural ingredients, could be recommended for consumption and, its properties, could play an important role in preventing and combating certain metabolic diseases.

Butter has become renowned among consumers because of its exceptional flavor and taste.Nevertheless,conventional butter is deemed“unhealthy”due to its high concentration of saturated fats and cholesterol,which are linked to the development of cardiovascular ailments.Improving the health benefits of butter has become an essential topic of research in the butter industry.This review focuses on researches that have made improvements to functionality of butter,including the changes in fatty acid composition,cholesterol reduction,incorporation with bioactive substances,development of new sources.The reduction of saturated fatty acids and cholesterol in butter can help reduce the risk of disease from eating butter.In addition,incorporating probiotics or natural plant extracts can achieve nutritional functions such as balancing intestinal flora,enhancing nutrient absorption,and increasing the body’s antioxidant capacity.Butter substitute products can be based on new vegetable oils,insect fats or microbial fats,which cater to the consumer demands for low-calorie butter while reducing the environmental impact that results from butter production.This review summarizes the effects and characteristics of various improvement methods and proposes some possible directions for future development of functional butter.

Theword“cancer”is associated with terrifying situations,and there is often an aggressive intent to cure.Uncertainty about survival and fear of disfigurement cause major turmoil in the minds of patients and relatives.Teamwork with multimodal care is the key to achieving satisfactory outcomes.Advanced imaging modalities have aided in early detection and derivation of optimal treatment plans.Although radical excision of tumors with neoadjuvant or concurrent chemotherapy/radiotherapy has long been the best management option,we have moved froma radical to a conservative approach.In advanced disease,the plan should be to provide supportive care and improve quality of life.Compassion and counseling play important roles.nutritional support for correcting cancer cachexia is equally important during tumor excision.Newer therapies such as targeted therapy,stem cell therapy,and chemodynamic therapy are all focused on ensuring safe and efficient outcomes;however,the war against cancer continues to oscillate between hope and despair.

Even if the relationships between nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)remain underexplored,the current literature is providing,day by day,much more evidence on the effects of various diets in both prevention and treatment of such illnesses.Wrong dietary habits,together with other environmental factors such as pollution,breastfeeding,smoke,and/or antibiotics,are among the theoretical pathogenetic causes of IBD,whose multifactorial aetiology has been already confirmed.While some of these risk factors are potentially reversible,some others cannot be avoided,and efficient treatments become necessary to prevent IBD spread or recurrence.Furthermore,the drugs currently available for treatment of such disease provide low-to-no effect against the symptoms,making the illnesses still strongly disabling.Whether nutrition and specific diets will prove to effectively interrupt the course of IBD has still to be clarified and,in this sense,further research concerning the applications of such dietary interventions is still needed.
