Bayesian Rayleigh wave inversion with an unknown number of layers

Surface wave methods have received much attention due to their efficient, flexible and convenient characteristics. However, there are still critical issues regarding a key step in surface wave inversion. In most existing methods, the number of layers is assumed to be known prior to the process of inversion. However, improper assignment of this parameter leads to erroneous inversion results. A Bayesian nonparametric method for Rayleigh wave inversion is proposed herein to address this problem. In this method, each model class represents a particular number of layers with unknown S-wave velocity and thickness of each layer. As a result, determination of the number of layers is equivalent to selection of the most applicable model class. Regarding each model class, the optimization search of S-wave velocity and thickness of each layer is implemented by using a genetic algorithm. Then, each model class is assessed in view of its efficiency under the Bayesian framework and the most efficient class is selected. Simulated and actual examples verify that the proposed Bayesian nonparametric approach is reliable and efficient for Rayleigh wave inversion, especially for its capability to determine the number of layers.

In this paper,we introduce an approach to simply and effectively determine the mechanical property and number of layers of graphene simultaneously from one indentation by using an instrumented *** measurement was made on layered graphene sheets of thickness between 1 ～ 7 nm （less than 5 layers）.The results reveal that the graphene sheets exhibit an obvious response to the instrumented nanoindentation due to its high strength and large elastic *** experimental data show that the elastic modulus of a single layer graphene is 0.89TPa after correction of the substrate effect,which is coincident to the current experimental and theoretical *** addition,it is found that the values of hardness and elastic modulus decreases as the number of layers increase,and there exists a linear relationship between the number of layers and the hardness of graphene,which provide a novel and also an effective method for judging the number of graphene layers.

the ancient people love building pillow Hill building, along the waterfront, the mountain building not only carry forward Chinese traditional landscape culture, but also make full use of the natural environment of mountains. 2/3 of the land area of China is mountainous, especially in Sicilian, Yunnan, Chongqing, Guangzhou and other southwest of many buildings built in the mountains. Therefore, the mountain building is the only way to realize the sustainable development of the city. The earthquake in the life brought great damage, so far we still have not found a precise method to predict earthquakes, but to take some measures to reduce the harm to the people of the earthquake. From these aspects, we can see that it is very important to study the influence of earthquake on the mountain frame structure. In this paper, the influence of the number of spans on the seismic performance of the frame structure is analyzed from four aspects: the peak value of the inter story displacement, the peak value of the displacement between layers, the amplification coefficient of acceleration and the shear layer.
