Sn nucleation and growth from Sn(II)dissolved in ethylene glycol:Electrochemical behavior and temperature effect

Thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of Sn nucleation and growth processes onto a glassy carbon electrode from SnCl2·2H2O dissolved in ethylene glycol solutions were *** reduction and oxidation peaks observed in voltammograms have demonstrated the capability of ethylene glycol solutions to electrodeposit *** temperature-dependence of diffusion coefficient values derived from potentiodynamic and potentiostatic studies helped to determine and validate estimations of the activation energy for Sn(II)bulk *** results have identified that,the suitable model to describe the early stage of Sn electrodeposition could be composed of Sn three-dimensional nucleation and diffusion-controlled growth and water reduction contributions,which was duly validated by theoretical and experimental *** the model,typical kinetic parameters such as the nucleation frequency of Sn(A),number density of Sn nuclei(N0),and diffusion coefficient of Sn(II)ions(D),were *** presence of Sn nuclei with excellent quality and their structures were verified using SEM,EDX,and XRD techniques.

Ultrasound assisted crystallization of cephalexin monohydrate:nucleation mechanism and crystal habit control

With the high-quality requirements for cephalexin monohydrate,developing a robust and practical crystallization process to produce cephalexin monohydrate with good crystal habit,appropriate aspect ratio and high bulk density as well as suitable flowability is urgently *** research has explored the influence of ultrasound on crystallization of cephalexin monohydrate in terms of nucleation mechanism and crystal habit *** results of metastable zone width and induction time measurement showed the presence of ultrasound irradiation can narrow the metastable zone and shorten induction *** phenomena generated by ultrasound were used to qualitatively explain the mechanism of ultrasound promoting nucleation of cephalexin ***,on the basis of classical nucleation theory and induction time data,a series of nucleation-related parameters(such as crystalliquid interfacial tension,radius of the critical nucleus and etc.)were calculated and showed a decreasing trend under ultrasound *** diffusion coefficient of the studied system was also determined to increase by 72.73%under *** changes in these parameters have quantitatively confirmed the mechanism of ultrasound influence on the nucleation *** further,the calculated surface entropy factor has confirmed that the growth of cephalexin monohydrate follows continuous growth mechanism under the research conditions of this *** the exploration of crystallization conditions,it is found that suitable ultrasonic treatment,seeding,supersaturation control and removal of fine crystals are conducive to improving the quality of cephalexin monohydrate *** the crystallization process coupled continuous ultrasound irradiation with fine-crystal dissolution policy has achieved the controllable production of monodisperse cephalexin monohydrate crystal with good performance.

Enhancement of nucleation of diamond films deposited on copper substrate by nickel modification layer

A Ni layer with a thickness of about 100 nm was sputtered on Cu substrates,followed by an ultrasonic seeding with nanodiamond ***-quality diamond film with its crystalline grains close to thermal equilibrium shape was deposited on Cu substrates by hot-filament chemical vapor deposition（HF-CVD）,and the sp2 carbon content was less than 5.56%.The nucleation and growth of diamond film were investigated by micro-Raman spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,and X-ray *** results show that the nucleation density of diamond on the Ni-modified Cu substrates is 10 times higher than that on blank Cu *** enhancement mechanism of the nucleation kinetics by Ni modification layer results from two effects：namely,the nanometer rough Ni-modified surface shows an improved absorption of nanodiamond particles that act as starting points for the diamond nucleation during HF-CVD process;the strong catalytic effect of the Ni-modified surface causes the formation of graphite layer that acts as an intermediate to facilitate diamond nucleation quickly.

Synthesis of crystals and particles by crystallization and polymerization in droplet-based microfluidic devices

The recent advances in crystallization and polymerization assisted by droplet-based microfluidics to synthesize micro-particles and micro-crystals are reviewed in this ***-based microfluidic devices are powerful tools to execute some precise controls and operations on the flow inside microchannels by adjusting fluid dynamics parameters to produce monodisperse emulsions or multiple-emulsions of various *** features of this technique are producing particles of monodispersity to control the shape of particles in a new level,and to generate droplets of diverse materials including aqueous solutions,gels and *** microfluidic devices have been employed to generate monodisperse droplets of range from nm toμm,such as T junctions,flow-focusing devices and co-flow or cross-flow *** discrete,independently controllable droplets are ideal microreactors to be manipulated in the channels to synthesize the nanocrystals,protein crystals,polymer particles and *** generated monodisperse particles or crystals are to meet different technical demands in many fields,such as crystal engineering,encapsulation and drug delivery *** devices are promising tools in the synthesis of micron polymer particles that have diverse applications such as the photonic materials,ion-exchange and chromatography columns,and field-responsive rheological *** assisted by microfluidic devices are able to produce the polymer particles(including Janus particles)with precise control over their sizes,size distribution,morphology and *** technology of microfluidics has also been employed to generate core-shell microcapsules and solid microgels with precise controlled sizes and inner *** chosen“smart”materials are sensitive to an external stimulus such as the change of the pH,electric field and *** complex particles are also able to be functionalized by encapsulating nanoparticles of speci
