The intermediate-mafic granulite xenoliths from Tertiary Hannuoba alkali basalts at the northern margin of the north china craton have been commonly considered to be formed by Mesozoic basaltic underplating due to their abundant Mesozoic zircons and compositionally higher Mg#(molecular Mg/(Mg+Fe))than rocks of the adjourning Archean granulite ***,such a Mesozoic underplating model cannot account for the presence of Precambrian zircons in the xenoliths and their evolved Sr-Nd isotopic compositions which are dissimilar to expected basaltic melts from both the lithospheric and asthenospheric mantle. Instead,their Sr-Nd isotopic compositions resemble those of the granulite terrain and of the Mesozoic low Mg# *** newly acquired data and published data are combined to assess the Mesozoic basaltic underplating model and to discuss the origin of the Hannuoba intermediate-mafic granulite xenoliths in terms of their relationships with the Mesozoic magmatism and the granulite *** from a mafic granulite xenolith(JN0724),which has geochemical and Sr-Nd isotopic compositions indistinguishable from other mafic granulite xenoliths,yield～2.5 Ga U-Pb ages,providing unambiguous evidence that the mafic xenoliths represent portions of ancient lower *** data reveals that the pyroxene-rich granulite xenoliths can be best explained as restites left after partial melting of the ancient lower crust to produce the Mesozoic low Mg# *** isotope analysis on Mesozoic zircons from the Hannuoba feldspar-rich granulite xenoliths demonstrates that the zircons crystallized from Mesozoic granitic magmas that were derived from ancient lower crust rather than from Mesozoic underplated *** proposed scenarios successfully explain the age and compositional differences between granulite xenoliths and the granulite terrain and also provide new insights into derivation and evolution of granitic *** is concluded that most of the Hannuoba inte

Chaotiehe gabbroic intrusion in the eastern part of Liaoning Province was dated by the zircon SHRIMP U-Pb *** results gave an emplacement age of 126±4 Ma,indicating that the intrusion thus formed during the lithospheric thinning of the north china craton(NCC) in the Early Cretaceous rather than in a rifting setting during the Paleoproterozoic as previously *** gabbroic intrusion contains abundant old zircons with Paleoproterozoic(2.10-2.46 Ga and ca.1.87 Ga) and Neoproterozoic (747-969 Ma) *** Paleoproterozoic zircons were probably derived from NCC itself,whereas the Neoproterozoic ones were likely from materials of the Yangtze craton that had previously been subducted beneath *** geochrono logical dates are of important implications for understanding the Mesozoic crustal evolution of NCC.

Granitoids play an important role in deciphering both crustal growth and tectonic evolution of *** the eastern end of the Yinshan-Yanshan belt of north china craton,the Yiwuliishan massif is a typical region that presents the tectonic evolution features of this *** field work on the host rocks has demonstrated two phases of opposite tectonics:compressional and extensional,however,the deformation is almost invisible in the intrusive *** improve the understanding of the tectonic evolution of the Yiwuliishan massif and the Late Mesozoic tectonics of East Asia,a multidisciplinary study has been carried *** this study,anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility(AMS) and gravity modeling have been applied on these Jurassic plutons(Lüshan, Jishilazi and Guanyindong),which intrude into the Yiwulüshan *** to laboratory measurements and microscopic observations on thin sections,the AMS of the Yiwulüshan massif is characterized by secondary fabrics,indicating that the intensive post solidus deformation has reset the(primary) magmatic magnetic fabrics.A relatively gentle NW dipping magnetic foliation has been identified with two distinct groups of magnetic lineations of N34°E and N335°E orientations,namely L and L,*** modeling reveals a southward thinning of the massif with a possible feeding zone rooted in the northern part of the *** all results from structural observation,geochronological investigation,AMS measurement and gravity modeling,two tectonic phases have been identified in the Yiwulüshan massif,posterior to the Jurassic(180-160 Ma) magmatism in the Yinshan-Yanshan *** early one concerns a Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous(-141 Ma) compressional event with a top-to-the-south to southwest sense of *** second one shows an Early Cretaceous(-126 Ma) NW-SE ductile extensional *** that time,sedimentary basins widened and Jurassic plutons started to be deformed under post solidus conditions. Sapphirine,a typical ultrahigh-temperature metamorphic mineral,is rarely found in mantle xenohths. Here we report the occurrence and characteristics of sapphirine in a mantle-derived xenolith from the Cenozoic basalts of Hannuoba in the north china *** xenolith consists of a clinopyroxene, spinel,and sapphirine assemblage,with the sapphirine occurring as the reaction rim surrounding *** mineral compositions of this sample are all characterized by high Mg contents,similar to those of minerals from other sapphirine-bearing rocks reported from high-Mg-Al granulites elsewhere in the *** is relatively rich in Al and Ca in comparison to pyroxene in peridotite and pyroxenite xenoliths in the Hannuoba basalts,as well as in global mafic and felsic granulites in other terranes,a feature that is consistent with the bulk *** P-T compilations from both experimental and natural rock data show a restricted stability field for the coexisting clinopyroxene + spinel + sapphirine assemblage of around 8-15 kbar and 800-900℃.The rare occurrence of sapphirine in a mantle-derived xenolith therefore suggests specific bulk composition,restricted P-T range and possible melt-peridotite *** conditions are best satisfied in a tectonic setting with basaltic magma underplating and interactionbetween the infiltrating melts and the wall-rock peridotite.

The Alxa Block is the westernmost part of the north china craton(NCC).In the past,it has been considered to be part of the Archean ***,formation and evolution of this block remain poorly understood,and this has hampered a broader understanding of the *** this study we analyzed the in situ zircon U-Pb age and Hf-0 isotopes for the two oldest rock units in the eastern Alxa Block,namely the Bayanwulashan and Diebusige *** Bayanwulashan Complex consists mainly of metamorphic rocks with mafic and felsic *** U-Pb zircon dating results indicate that the primary magmatic ages of the mafic and felsic igneous rocks are ca.2.34 Ga and ca.2.32-2.30 Ga,respectively,and both sets of rocks were overprinted by two metamorphic events at ca.1.89 Ga and ca.1.79 *** and zircon Hf-0 isotopic data suggest that the ca.2.34 Ga amphibolites within the Bayanwulashan Complex are characteristically high in TiO(up to 3.2%),Zr(up to 394 ppm) and Ti/V(>30),resembling the basaltic rocks formed within continental *** ca.2.32-2.30 Ga felsic rocks were generated by remelting of dominant meta-igneous rocks that have zircon Hf model ages of 2.92-2.81 *** Diebusige Complex is composed of amphibolites,mafic gneisses and *** was intruded by granites dated at ca.1.97-1.98 Ga,and subjected to high grade metamorphic events at ca.1,89 Ga and ca.1.79 ***-examination of U-Pb ages for detrital and metamorphic zircons indicate that the depositional ages of protoliths of the Diebusige paragneisses may be considered to be between ca.2.45 and 2.0 *** U-Pb zircon age data do not support the existence of exposed Archean rocks in the eastern Alxa Block,although the possibility of Archean rocks at deeper crustal levels cannot be ruled out entirely. This paper reports in-situ U-Pb ages and Hf isotopic data on detrital zircons from Paleozoic to Late Mesozoic strata in the Xishan area near Beijing that provides important constraints on the evolution and paieogeography of the northern part of the north china craton (NCC).Zircons from Carboniferous to Late Mesozoic sandstones are characterized by three major groups of U-Pb ages(2.5-2.3 Ga,1.9-1.7 Ga and Late Phanerozoic ages).The Neoarchean and Paleoproterozoic zircons,and some Phanerozoic zircons,have negativeεHf(7) values,similar to igneous zircons from intrusive rocks known from the NCC,indicating that the source of the sandstones was locally ***,Late Triassic to Late Jurassic(205-158 Ma) sandstones contain a group of Phanerozoic zircons with positiveεHf(T) values,distinct from known igneous zircons in the NCC,suggesting an exotic *** nearest potential source is the Xing-Meng Orogenic Belt(XMOB) to the north of the NCC,where considerable amounts of juvenile crustal materials *** is concluded that there are two sudden shifts in source provenances of the Xishan sediments;from the NCC before the Late Triassic,to a mixed source from the NCC and XMOB during the Late Triassic to Late Jurassic,and then from the NCC again during the Late Jurassic(<158Ma).The first shift in source resulted from the exhumation and denudation of rocks due to uplift of the XMOB,which coincided with post-collisional extension in the Late Triassic and intraplate extension of the NCC in the Middle to Late *** second source shift resulted from the uplift of the Yanshan Fold and Thrust Belt,thus constraining the timing of this to the Late Jurassic.

Zircon U-Pb dating,whole-rock major oxide,trace element and Sr-Nd-Hf isotopic data are presented for the Late Permian to Early Triassic Shijianfang batholith from Faku in north Liaoning Province,north *** main magmatic suites are documented:one,with an emplacement age of ca.260 Ma,is mafic to intermediate in composition,forming small gabbroic to monzonitic intrusions;the other is felsic and quartz monzonitic to granitic in composition,with an emplacement age of ca.250 ***,the rocks from the mafic suite show strong enrichment of LILE and LREE and depletion in HFSE,and also have moderately depleted isotopic compositions,with Iranging from 0.7049 to 0.7054,ε(t)from +2.72 to -1.82 and zirconε(t)values from +3.4 to +*** features suggest derivation from high degree partial melting of a subduction-related metasomatized lithospheric mantle *** rocks from the felsic suite range from 66.7 to 77.2 wt.%SiO,and define a continuous chemical evolutionary trend,from less-differentiated low-silica members displaying LREE enriched patterns,no Eu anomalies and high Ba,Sr,Zr and Hf,to more-differentiated,high-silica members with higher alkalis,strong depletion in Ba,Sr and Ti, enrichment in HFSE,fractionated REE patterns and strong negative Eu ***,they exhibit indistinguishable isotopic compositions from the mafic rocks,with Iranging from 0.7043 to 0.7062,ε(t) from + 2.28 to-0.55 and zirconε(t)values from + 3.6 to + *** suggests that the parental magma for the felsic suite originated from partial melting of mixed protoliths composed of juvenile basaltic underplate and ancient lower crustal *** fractional crystallization,with overprinting by magmatic hydrothermal fluids,can explain the geochemical variations of the felsic suite. The juvenile character of both lithospheric mantle and crustal rocks,as recorded by the Shijianfang batholith, suggests that the northern Liaoning block forms part of a Phanerozoic accretionary

Major and trace element and Nd-Sr isotope data of the Mesozoic Laiwu-Zibo carbonatites(LZCs) from western Shandong Province,china,provide clues to the petrogenesis and the nature of their mantle *** Laiwu-Zibo carbonatites can be petrologically classified as calcio-,magnesio- and *** these carbonatites show a similarity in geochemistry. On the one hand,they are extremely enriched in Ba,Sr and LREE and markedly low in K,Rb and Ti,which are similar to those global carbonatites,on the other hand,they have extremely high initial Sr/Sr(0.7095-0.7106) and very lowε(-18.2 to -14.3),a character completely different from those global *** small variations in Sr and Nd isotopic ratios suggest that crustal contamination can not modify the primary isotopic compositions of LZC magmas and those values are representatives of their mantle *** Nd-Sr isotopic compositions of LZCs and their similarity to those of Mesozoic Fangcheng basalts imply that they derived from an enriched lithospheric *** formation of such enriched lithospheric mantle is connected with the major collision between the north china craton(NCC) and the Yangtze *** materials from the Yangtze craton were subducted beneath the NCC and melts derived from the subducted crust of the Yangtze craton produced an enriched Mesozoic mantle,which is the source for the LZCs and Fangcheng *** absence of alkaline silicate rocks,which are usually associated with carbonatites suggest that the LZCs originated from the mantle by directly partial melting.
