The relation between blood viscosity and blood resistivity under the condition of large clinic samples is studied in this paper. Through processing and calculating the data of blood viscosity and blood resistivity, a quantitative equation between blood viscosity and blood resistivity can be regressed. Then, on the basis of this relation, the non invasive measurement of blood viscosity can be achieved by the means of plethysmography.

Purpose: The accuracy of spectrophotometric hemoglobin (SpHb) measurement with a pulse co-oximeter was analyzed in cases of intraoperative massive hemorrhage and compared with Hb levels determined through blood gas analysis (LabHb) as a reference. We aimed to determine the extent to which in vivo adjustment (ADJ) for results of initial blood gas analysis would improve the accuracy of SpHb measurement. Methods: Data on LabHb and SpHb levels were collected from cases with hemorrhage of 1000 g or more. Correlations and Bland-Altman analyses were used to determine the associations between data before and after ADJ. Results: ADJ slightly improved the correlation coefficient (Pearson r) between SpHb and LabHb levels from 0.65 to 0.72. In Bland-Altman analysis, ADJ reduced the bias from 1.76 ± 1.47 g/dL to 0.64 ± 1.43 g/dL, while the 95% limits of agreement of -1.12 to 4.64 g/dL (range: 5.77 g/dL) without ADJ improved to -2.16 to 3.44 g/dL (range: 5.59 g/dL) with ADJ. In four-quadrant analysis, other than samples in the exclusion zone, the total number analyzed was 326, and the concordance rate was 82%. Conclusion: Although the accuracy of SpHb measurement improves on ADJ, SpHb measurement cannot substitute for LabHb levels, and it is necessary to determine Hb levels with blood gas analysis in the laboratory. It remains unclear which measurement is superior for determining when to initiate blood transfusion to achieve better outcomes. To comply with conventional methods, LabHb measurements may be necessary.

Objective: To compare the haemodynamic effects of the induction agents ketamine, etomidate and sevoflurane using the model of electrical velocimetry based cardiac output monitoring in paediatric cardiac surgical patients. Design: Prospective randomized study. Setting: Tertiary care hospital. Participants: 60 children noninvasive cardiac monitor based on the model of electrical velocimetry. Measurements and Main Results: The demographic characteristics of the patients were similar in the three groups. The HR decreased in all groups, least in group E (P ≤ 0.01) but the MAP decreased only in group S (P ≤ 0.001). In group S, the stroke volume improved from 9 ± 3.2 ml to 10 ± 3.2 ml (P ≤ 0.05) and the stroke volume variation decreased from 25% ± 6.4% to 13% ± 6.2% (P ≤ 0.001). The stroke index and systemic arterial saturation improved in all groups (P ≤ 0.01). The cardiac index and index of contractility were unchanged. The transthoracic fluid content reduced in groups E and S, but did not change in group K (P ≤ 0.05). Conclusions: Etomidate appeared to provide the most stable conditions for induction of anesthesia in children undergoing cardiac surgery, followed by ketamine and sevoflurane.

AIM: To evaluate the performance of elastography by ultrasound with acoustic radiation force impulse(ARFI) in determining fibrosis stage in patients with alcoholic liver disease(ALD) undergoing alcoholic detoxification in relation to ***: Eighty-three patients with ALD undergoing detoxification were prospectively enrolled. Each patient underwent ARFI imaging and a liver biopsy onthe same day. Fibrosis was staged according to the METAVIR scoring system. The median of 10 valid ARFI measurements was calculated for each ***: Sixty-nine males and thirteen females(one patient excluded due to insufficient biopsy size) were assessed with a mean alcohol consumption of 132.4 ± 128.8 standard drinks per week and mean cumulative year duration of 17.6 ± 9.5 years. Sensitivity and specificity were respectively 82.4%(0.70-0.95) and 83.3%(0.73-0.94)(AUROC = 0.87) for F ≥ 2 with a cut-off value of 1.63m/s; 82.4%(0.64-1.00) and 78.5%(0.69-0.89)(AUROC = 0.86) for F ≥ 3 with a cut-off value of 1.84m/s; and 92.3%(0.78-1.00] and 81.6%(0.72-0.90)(AUROC = 0.89) for F = 4 with a cut-off value of 1.94 m/***: ARFI is an accurate, non-invasive and easy method for assessing liver fibrosis in patients with ALD undergoing alcoholic detoxification.
