Insight into the relationship between non-linear mixed convection and thermal radiation:The case of newtonian fluid flow due to non-linear stretching

The current research focuses the light on the characterization of buoyancy-driven non-linear mixed convection and non-linear radiation in a newtonian flow over a nonlinearly stretching vertical sheet,and this type of flow has useful applications in many industrial processes,such as the paper and pulp industry,polymer industry,electronic device cooling,solar collectors,gas turbine plants,and nuclear *** appropriate transformations,governing PDEs for non-linear mixed convection are reduced to higher-order non-linear ODEs and those are numerically *** with tabular presentations of computed results,the graphical representations are generated to elucidate the effects of involved parameters on convection transport properties and their *** demonstrates that flow velocity increases near the surface and decreases away from the surface as the non-linear convection parameter ***,increments in the thermal buoyancy,temperature ratio and non-linear radiation parameters result in the boost of *** temperature decreases as linear and non-linear buoyancy-related parameters(non-linear convection and thermal buoyancy parameters)are of higher *** contrast,the temperature rises with two non-linear thermal radiation-related parameters(thermal ratio and non-linear radiation parameters).For greater values of the non-linear stretching related parameter,a lower velocity and a higher temperature are *** non-linear convection,thermal buoyancy,thermal ratio and non-linear radiation parameters contribute toward the reduction of the magnitude of surface-drag force and growth of the surface cooling ***,with the non-linearity in surface stretching there are significant percentage hikes of surface-drag force magnitude and surface cooling rate.

In this paper, using Navier-Stokes equations and Reynolds time-averaged rules, the turbulent motional differential equations of variable density and variable viscosity newtonian fluid have been presented, and the turbulent motional differential equations of variable density and variable viscosity newtonian fluid in open channel have been further proposed. The concepts of the density turbulence stress and the viscosity turbulence stress have been firstly presented in the paper.

Using k- model of turbulence and measured wall functions, turbulent flows of newtonian (pure water) andasort of non-newtonian fluid (dilute, drag-reduction solution of polymer) in a 180-degree curved bend were simulated numerically. The calculated results agreed well with the measured velocity profiles. On the basis of calculation and measurement, appropriateness of turbulence model to complicated flow in which the large-scale vortex exists was analyzed and discussed.

The problem of a creeping flow of newtonian fluid extruded from a plane slit or a circular *** the absence of gravity,is simulated successfully by using the continuous-pressure-element method,the discontinuous-pressure-element method,the consistant penalty method,the reduced integration penalty method and the modified reduced integration penalty method proposed by *** comparisons between these methods,it is convinced that the discontinuous-pressure interpolation schemes result in more accurate mass conservation and,consequently,more rapid convergence of the free-surface iteration than the continuous one *** reduced integration penalty method can further reduce the cost of computation while retaining sufficient accuracy of the solution.

Lattice Boltzmann method for three-dimensional moving particles in a newtonian fluid

A lattice Boltzmann method is developed to simulate three-dimensional solid particle motions in fluids. In the present model, a uniform grid is used and the exact spatial location of the physical boundary of the suspended particles is determined using an interpolation scheme. The numerical accuracy and efficiency of the proposed lattice Boltzmann method is demonstrated by simulating the sedimentation of a single sphere in a square cylinder. Highly accurate simulation results can be achieved with few meshes, compared with the previous lattice Boltzmann methods. The present method is expected to find applications on the flow systems with moving boundaries, such as the blood flow in distensible vessels, the particle-flow interaction and the solidification of alloys.

Dynamic Analysis of Single Pile in Liquefied Soils Considered as newtonian fluid

Case histories have shown that the liquefaction-induced soil lateral spreading is one of the main causes of damage to pile foundations subjected to seismic loading. Post-liquefaction soil behaves similarly to a viscous fluid. This study investigated the effect of soil lateral spreading on a single pile based on fluid mechanics in which the liquefied soils were treated as newtonian fluids. A numerical simulation on a single pile embedded in a fully saturated sandy foundation was conducted and compared with shake table tests. The lateral flow effect and the effect of shear strain rate were discussed. After liquefaction, the acceleration of the foundation shows that there are no obvious spikes and finally reaches a stable state. The presented method can predict the pile response better than p-y curve method. A parametric study was performed to explore the effect of several influence factors on pile behaviors. The results show that the pile head displacement decreases and the maximum bending moment at pile bottom increases with the increase of bending stiffness. With the same pile bending stiffness, the displacement and bending moment of pile increase with the increase of soil viscosity and acceleration amplitude.

An approximate solution to the problem of steady laminar flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid over a stretching sheet is presented. The approach is based on the idea of stretching the variables of the flow problem and then using least squares method to minimize the residual of a differential equation. The effects of the magnetic field on the flow characteristics are demonstrated through numerical computations with different values of the Hartman number.

Speculation of fluid dynamics equations based on Liutex theory and constitutive relation of symmetric shearing deformation

The fluid kinematics of Liutex decomposes a velocity gradient tensor(VGT)of∇v into four components,including rotation(R),stretching/compressing(SC),anti-symmetric shear(Santi-sym)and symmetric shear(Ssym),as oppose to the traditional Cauchy-Stokes decomposition where a VGT was decomposed into the strain rate and vorticity *** current study limpidly clarified the physical meanings of these deformations in the newly-proposed decomposition from the perspectives of both fluid kinematics and *** in-depth understanding the physical connotations of these deformations,the present study further suggests that the Ssym be the only deformation appropriately correlated to the stress tensor,leading to the establishment of a new constitutive relation for newtonian fluids with the modified model assumptions originated from Stokes in ***,the present research finds that the“principal decomposition”proposed by Liu is not mathematically unique when a VGT has three real eigenvalues(TR).Within the context,a new decomposition method is introduced to avoid the non-uniqueness issue arising from using the principal decomposition to establish fluid dynamics *** on the modified Stokes assumptions and the novel VGT decomposition method,a set of new fluid dynamics momentum equations are obtained for newtonian *** added stress tensor of Fadd is identified as the key difference between the newly-derived governing equations and the conventional Navier-Stokes(N-S)equations,which is caused by excluding the SC correlation to the stress tensor in the new constitutive ***,a preliminary analysis of Fadd is conducted using the existing channel turbulence direct numerical simulations(DNS)data based on the traditional N-S *** Fadd is found widely existing in turbulence and is of the same order of magnitude with the other force ***,the Fadd is expected to have some nonnegligible effects on altering the current DNS data based on
