Rare earth resources are relatively scarce worldwide, but their global consumption is increasing year-by-year. At present, China has about 36% of the global rare earth reserves, but provides 90% of the world＇s supply, which has generally met world demand and promoted the development of the world economy. In order to continuously and stably supply rare earths to international markets, the Chinese Government has financially supported the Institute of Multipurpose Utilization of Mineral Resources within the China Geological Survey to study the utilization of low-grade rare earth ores. Following many years of experimental research, the project has developed a new technology entitled ＂Flotation to Form Agglomerates and then Magnetic Separation＂, which will bring a technological revolution to the world＇s light rare earth ore dressing.

As the most emblematic new infrastructure technologies,the integration of 5G with Big Data,Cloud Computing,Internet of things(IoT),Artificial Intelligence(AI),and Blockchain will provide new development opportunities for scientific and education evaluation.This study examines the new developments,issues,and requirements in science and education evaluation that have arisen as a result of new technology.On this basis,the article proposes development strategies for science and education evaluation in the new era,including strengthening data governance of science and education evaluation,innovating a novel common evaluation mechanism for science and education evaluation,and constructing a cloud platform for science and education evaluation.

Chloroplast is a discrete,highly structured,and semi-autonomous cellular organelle.The small genome of chloroplast makes it an up-and-coming platform for synthetic biology.As a special means of synthetic biology,chloroplast genetic engineering shows excellent potential in reconstructing various sophisticated metabolic pathways within the plants for specific purposes,such as improving crop photosynthetic capacity,enhancing plant stress resistance,and synthesizing new drugs and vaccines.However,many plant species exhibit limited efficiency or inability in chloroplast genetic transformation.Hence,new transformation technologies and tools are being constantly developed.In order to further expand and facilitate the application of chloroplast genetic engineering,this review summarizes the new technologies in chloroplast genetic transformation in recent years and discusses the choice of appropriate synthetic biological elements for the construction of efficient chloroplast transformation vectors.

Review of Sodic Soil Reclamation with a Snapshot of Current Research Activity

For centuries, reclamation of sodic soils has been an essential part of cropping practices in several parts of the world. Parallel to increasing population, the need for new cropland constantly re-evaluates land suitability concepts. Therefore, the importance of sodic soils as potential croplands is increasing worldwide. Although theoretically farmers can choose from a wide variety of reclamation options, according to profitability, business plans, and human and financial resources, in practice, few reclamation methods are applied at large scale. This article touches on the early history, 20th Century intensive research, and current trends of sodic soil reclamation. new approaches such as leaching, chemical amendments, addition of organic material, and biological and microbial improvements are discussed, and also brand-new approaches are reviewed. The early history is reviewed using historical books, the achievements of the last hundred years using basic technical literature, mostly books, and the current approaches of our time with fresh publications, mostly papers and two very recent conferences published in English.

The objective of this article is to uncover benefits and risks of Integrated Product Service Offering （IPSO） in a systematic manner. To do so, it adopts an explorative longitudinal in-depth case study （development of an IPSO based on a new technology） and adds insights to the existing literature. The article first proposes a theoretical and generic framework termed the PCP （Provider - Customer - Product） triangle with associated information flow and uncertainty. Second, various types of benefits and risks are presented based on the framework. Among others, the benefit of keeping IPR （Intellectual Property Rights） with the provider and the risk of regulation change are new findings from the case study. In addition, the case study reveals that IPSO is regarded as a positive contributor to innovation. Applying the framework and classification of benefits and risks as norms to other cases has yet to be done for verification. However, the framework contributes scientifically to a better understanding of the benefits and risks of IPSO. In addition, this framework is advantageous with its easiness to understand, which contributes practically to the dissemination of IPS0 insight to industry.

Development of Mining technology and Equipment for Seafloor Massive Sulfide Deposits

Seafloor massive sulfide（SMS） deposits which consist of Au, Ag, Cu, and other metal elements, have been a target of commercial mining in recent decades. The demand for established and reliable commercial mining system for SMS deposits is increasing within the marine mining industry. The current status and progress of mining technology and equipment for SMS deposits are introduced. First, the mining technology and other recent developments of SMS deposits are comprehensively explained and analyzed. The seafloor production tools manufactured by Nautilus Minerals and similar mining tools from Japan for SMS deposits are compared and discussed in turn. Second, SMS deposit mining technology research being conducted in China is described, and a new SMS deposits mining tool is designed according to the environmental requirement. Finally, some new trends of mining technology of SMS deposits are summarized and analyzed. All of these conclusions and results have reference value and guiding significance for the research of SMS deposit mining in China.

In the past few years, a new technology, biotechnology, has come into practical use internationally. It is prospective that application of biotechnology in the field of food production may lead to improved food quality and productivity.　　Modern biotechnology, through the use of recombinant DNA techniques, has been used for food production for some time now. Therefore, particular attention should be paid to the safety of foods and food additives produced by recombinant DNA techniques. For this reason, Japan set out the “Guideline for Safety Assessment of Foods and Food Additives Produced by Recombinant DNA Techniques” and “Guideline for Manufacturing Foods and Food Additives Produced by Recombinant DNA Techniques,” in 1991.
