Most crops were first domesticated about 13 000 to 11 000 years ago. Humans are dependent on crops for survival, and from the beginnings of agriculture have been energetically involved in developing crops that better serve their needs （Allard 1999）. During the last decades breeding has contributed approximately a 50% contribution to increasing the world＇s food crop production. However, plant breeding only began to adopt a scientific approach in the 1900s, when Mendel＇s hybridization experiment was rediscovered. Mendelian genetics and the development of the statistical concepts of randomJzatJon and replication had considerable impact on plant breeding methods （Hallauer et al. 1988）. In spite of the fact that scientific crop breeding has only existed for one century, it is a discipline that is developing very quickly. The major objective of crop breeding programs is to develop new genotypes that are genetically superior to those currently available for specific environments. To achieve this objective, breeders employ a range of selection methods and technologies （Hallauer et al. 1988; Falconer and Mackay 1996; Allard 1999）.

Based on the construction of high risk tunnels in Guiguang-Guangzhou high-speed railway, several new technologies were developed for high-risk tunnel con- struction. First, an integrated advanced geological predic- tion was developed for tunneling in karst area. Then, a new system of ventilation by involving the dedusting technol- ogy was proposed and used in the field, which received a good air quality. Finally, a method to minimize the dis- tance between the working face and the invert installation was proposed by optimizing the invert installation and adopting the micro bench method. Applying the method to the project obtained an excellent result. The achievement obtained for this study would be able to provide a valuable reference to similar projects in the future.

Organism development is a systems level process. It has benefited greatly from the recent technological advances in the field of systems biology. DNA microarray, phenome, interactome and transcriptome mapping, the new generation of deep sequencing technologies, and faster and better computational and modeling approaches have opened new frontiers for both systems biologists and developmental biologists to reexamine the old developmental biology questions, such as pattern formation, and to tackle new problems, such as stem cell reprogramming. As showcased in the International Developmental Systems Biology Symposium organized by Chinese Academy of Sciences, developmental systems biology is flourishing in many perspectives, from the evolution of developmental systems, to the underlying genetic and molecular pathways and networks, to the genomic, epigenomic and noncoding levels, to the computational analysis and modeling. We believe that the field will continue to reap rewards into the future with these new approaches.

In comparison with copper processing industrial leader Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd., Chinese copper processing industry faces many shortcomings and difficulties including but not limited to outdated equipment and technologies, low degree of specialization, and unstable product quality. The review of Furukawa Electric’s development milestones reveals that Chinese copper processing industry has reached a stage in which it must rely on technological research and development (R & D) to promote sustainable productivity. Chinese copper processing firms have to invest in R & D to promote sustainable technological innovations and to improve the precisions of business practice in order to ensure the firms’ improvement.

Since ancient times medical profession has typically dealt with physical disorders,because they are visible, palpable, and audible. The diagnosis is relatively direct. Mental health problems are hidden in the brain and we did not know what was going on inside the skull. We could only infer, by observing the patient's behaviors and making assumptions. Even now, we have to largely rely on this indirect *** is why psychology and psychiatry are classified as behavioral sciences. They are abstract, and we do not understand the structural changes causing the problem,except for obvious vascular or neoplastic lesions. Now, due to the introduction of new technologies, many mental health problems can be visualized through hi-tech equipment, albeit they are not yet palpable or audible. This direct approach has made the diagnosis much more secure. Now, we know that the problem of dementia starts from the hippocampal formation, and we can see it on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and functional MRI(f MRI). Therefore, a new era of mental health care is emerging. Dementia has become a burden for the patient, family members,caregivers, and the entire society. With ageing population, the number of patients with dementia will increase sharply not only in the developed but also in the developing world. The care of patients with dementia involves not only biology, but also sociology, including politics, and humanities. In 2012, in collaboration with the UK-based Alzheimer's Disease International, the World Health Organization(WHO)published "Dementia: a public health priority" report. A year later, in 2013, the problem was raised at the G8 summit meeting in London. In 2014, the UK-based Alzheimer's Society estimated that by 2015, there would be 850,000 sufferers of dementia. Finally, in 2015, the First WHO Ministerial Conference on Global Action Against Dementia took place in Geneva and a document calling for action was published. Some types of renewable energy have been experiencing rapid evolution in recent decades, notably among the energies associated with the oceans, such as wave and current energies. The development of new energy conversion technologies for these two forms of energy has been offering a large number of equipment configurations and plant geometries for energy conversion. This process can be implemented aiming at the result of feasibility studies in places with energy potentials, establishing minimum feasibility limits to be reached. This work aims to contribute in this sense with a feasibility study of a system with ocean wave power plants and with socio-current power plants to be operated on the southern coast of Brazil. This study evaluates a hybrid system with contributions from energy supplies obtained from wave plants and current plants, connected to the grid and supplying the demand of the municipalities in the North Coast region of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil. The study was carried out with simulations with the Homer Legacy software, with some adaptations for the simulation of ocean wave plants and ocean current plants. The results indicate that the ocean wave power plants were viable in the vast majority of simulated scenarios, while the ocean current power plants were viable in the scenarios with more intense average ocean current speeds and with more expensive energy acquired from the interconnected system.

＜正＞Hongjiadu （HJD） hydropower project which is located in the northern source of the main stream of the Wujiang River is the head hydropower station in the cascade projects of the Wujiang River. It is also one of the start-up projects among "west-electricity transmitted to the east" items. The gate of the diversion tunnel will be dropped down in April, 2004 and a generating unit will firstly generate electricity in July in the same year. The hydrostructures of the project consist of a dam and the structures on the left bank which conclude a spillway, a tunnel spillway, power conduit system, a power house and so on. The damsite is located in the high mountainous region with narrow valleys and karst, and the height of the dam is 179.50m. It is one of the highest concrete faced rockfill dam （CFRD） that is under construction in the world. The dam has been embanked 137m added up 7.0 million m3 at the present time and it underwent twice tests in 2002 and 2003 flood season respectively. The dam will experience the test of water storage in 2004. new technologies, such as narrow continuous plinth with equivalent width and impact compaction by LAND Pac, are adopted in the dam design and construction of HJD CFRD. The article presents the design and construction technique of HJD CFRD.
